my thoughts about "project gemini"

OKAY... first of all i want to say that i just got back from WDW this morning and i had a great time... now i spent the entire day at EPCOT yesterday (opening to end of ROE) and i was able to do almost everything and i thought a lot about "project gemini". first of all people need to realize that the articles that Jim Hill and Al Lutz write are RUMORS they should not be taken litarally. many things they write about are embeleshed upon and not allways fully reasechred. i believe many of these ideas (like the rainforest coaster) were concept ideas from WDI but they can and probably have been altered, changed, or taken out altogether. (if you have not yet i reccomend you read The Imagineering Way which gives an in depth look at the creative processes and procedured of WDI. its a GREAT book for every avid disney fan). Now what many people dont realize is epcot is going to have to change. many people (like my grandparents) who have been attending the park since it has been open, are not going anymore because they have seen everything many many times and get bored seing it again. although original attractions have changed (EX. LISTEN to the land -> LIVING with the land, UOE -> EEA) new attractions such as SORIN' will help to bring attendance up. also if you look at future world many things will not be changed so drasticly. there are already many trees and plants all around FW that enhance its potential. i doubt WDI would allow the adition of many more trees because that would just turn it into a forest. also the name change to "DISCOVERY LAND" makes sence because there is nowhere in futreworld (eccept for mabye M:S and portions of LWTL that show the future) also all of the marketing and merchandise now says somthing like "EPCOT our land of discovery". I do not believe nor agree with the RUMOR that SE will be turned into a roler coaster like ride. SE is the CENTERPEICE of epcot and it should NOT be destroyed. as for Food Rocks going dark (sorry thats theater jargin for closing) soon that also appears to be true b/c when i was there yesterday i saw a land host telling ppl to go see FR because there was a VERY GOOD CHANCE that it would be closing SOON. never the less there was less than 10 ppl in the theater (tear). i believe that whatever project gemini will bring it will keep with the integraty of EPCOT and it will hopefully enhance the park for present and future generations. it would also be great to see somewhere in the park at least an exibit if not a ride feauring walt's ORIGINAL dream for it to be a living breathing COMMUNITY where people worked and lived (imagineers if your listining theres a SPARK) because NOWHERE in all of epcot does it mention the original vision for a "CITY OF TOMMOROW". what we all have to realize is wether we like it or not Gemini is going to happen and we can only hope and pray and write letters and protest for the best.

p.s. sorry for the length i didnt realize when i started that it would be that long lol

Walt’s original vision of E.P.C.O.T. was never realised. Walt was a dreamer, not a doer. If you combine what E.P.C.O.T. Centre was and Celebration is, it probably comes close to what he envisaged E.P.C.O.T. to be. Now EPCOT showcases new technologies, and how one day we may live (ish), and Celebration is possibly the community of tomorrow - a showcase of how we all should live.... Just my thoughts on the matter.

i understand what your saying but i just thought it would be neet if people visiting epcot could see what it was originally meant to be and the ideas walt and the original WED staff had to make our urban centers better places to live and work.

Good point Lee! Isn't the concept model the city you see at the begginning of the Wedway People Mover....um, i mean TTA.

I for one hope they gut and completely change all of Communicore/Innoventions. That area never truly came into it's own. I recall at one point early on there was supposed to a Tron Video Arcade with the latest cutting edge videogames, i guess the closest they got to that vision was with Sega. But there was nothing different about those games and the games you could play at home.

Disney should really reach out to Corporate America and urge them to use that area as a place to display their cutting edge new products in original ways.

It would also be a great place to re-locate Carousel of Progress with an improved script (or get back to the pre-25th anniv. script and song which were waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better) and an updated ending. Re-located to Epcot in a central area, would immediately increase the number of people riding and experiencing this ride with a theme that completely blends in with the rest of Epcot. But I'm sure this will never happen and instead one of walt's original rides will be gone forever. All this ride needs is some TLC. I know alot of you disagree about the Tiki Room but at least we still have a semblance of Walt's original attraction. NOW IS THE TIME!

Maybe in The Oddsey? It's been closed for some time now, and it looks like it would be a good place to put that, along with some more Epcot nostalgia.

What they should just do with Innoventions is put attractions in there... like Stormchaser or Soarin. Maybe even a new omnimover ride, eh?

I'm sure they can fit that stuff in, along with Electric Umbrella, Mouse Gear, Ice Station Cool, ect.

Well, how about a dark ride showing all of man's "Discoveries" that changed the way we live....ohhh....that would be SSE

Well, you may have to expand them buildings UP and sideways. Frankly, their best bet is that area around the Land...would probably look better too... :)

P.S. Isn't "True Colors" nice? I'm playing it now, and it always makes me so nice and nostalgic. :)

I can think of MANY things that can make this area wonderful...think, a certain seasonal attraction, perhaps, or perhaps some things you might be able to see upstairs somewhere... :lookaroun

Good thing about THOSE ideas are - - the material's already made... :animwink:

my thoughts

The original poster stated that he doesn't think the rollercoaster in Spaceship Earth will happen.

I in fact hope it does not but think it will. I love Space ship Earth and I could care less about excitement rides at Disney, as I feel that is not what Disney is built on, but rather it is built on atmosphere.

I think Space Ship Earth is so unique and has an awesome atmosphere. I love it!

I think thought that the park is going to undergo a major change. It is already happening and you may not even notice. MIssion Space is the first part of Project Gemini. Soarin is coming. Notice both of those rides are excitement based rides. Time Races (the name of the future replacement for SSE) is coming down the road.

I hope they take it out due to heavy complaints but, Epcot just is not built on it's reputation like Magic Kingdom is. Magic Kingdom can keep all of it's older rides because of the history of them being there and for the fact that people love to take their kids on those rides because they themselves rode it as a kid with no differences.

Epcot cannot survive like that. It has to change. People don't think of it in the same way as they do the Magic Kingdom and especially those who have kids.

Project Gemini is going to happen because it already is. It will be done and most people will still be waitin for it to happen not realizing that all of the changes are in fact, Project Gemini.

As reported, the SE (Spaceship Earth) ride will not be replaced by Time Racers. Although the ride will be changed (not as a coaster, but a new style ride using screen technology...and HOPEFULLY full sets and Animatronics :( I hope...:( ), Time Racers will apparently be a post-show.

I'm blue in the face from saying that.:hammer:

I was wondering how long it would take before someone said it. :animwink:

I'm also glad they're not turning SSE into a roller coaster. I'm not nearly as attached to AA's as a lot of people *Hi Grizz  *, but in this case I do hope they keep some of them. What I would really like to see is a SpaceShip Earth meets Spiderman type ride, with some of the AA's preserved in the ride along with this new CAVE technology I keep hearing about.

Cheers :wave
