My Spanish Paper

Those are not "dialects". Spanish doesn´t have dialects. There is only simple Spanish. However, the Spanish spoken in Spain is different than the one in Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina, etc. Each country has their own lingo and many times a word would have a different meaning in each country. For instance, in Mexico, "papaya" is a tropical fruit, but in Cuba, it is a female´s genitals. Same with the word "cajeta" which is a milk dessert in Mexico and the same thing as in Cuba, but in Argentina. :animwink:

Please... don´t tell me you were speaking Spanish with Portoricans... that´s a whole different story... that´s Spanglish!

It´s the same thing with Spanish from all over the world, than with English between USA and UK and Australia. It´s exactly the same with us.

By the way, wdwprincess, do not use the translator for your homework.... you will flunk. It doesn´t make sense!!! :(

Maria...dialect...a regional variation of a language. (Merriem-Webster) Perhaps colloquialism or slang might have been better, but I think most people understood what I meant. ;) I agree with you when you say different countries may have different meanings for the same word, some of them VERY different!

Turkey Leg Boy....she probably never called it any of the things I listed because she knew you wouldn't know what she meant! Also, it can be a regional thing even within a country. I know what a "bubbler" or a "cabinet" (not a piece of furniture) is, but I would call them a water fountain and milkshake, unless I was in R.I., because NO ONE in Florida (and most other places) would know what I'm talking about! ;)

We don't call it a couch or sofa or chesterfield etc - although those words are used - in Northern Ireland, we call it a settee!

Just like the French you may hear in Paris is SO different from the Cajun French spoken here cher:animwink: . Too bad it's not being handed down more because it's a beautiful language. My in-laws refused to speak it to my son; thinking he would get confused. I told them he would speak French to them and English to us. But they never thought the time was right.:(

I do all my homework by myself, but I figured that the translator would do some of it....it's due monday, and I was gone friday, so I didn't get the assignment till yesterday.

Hahaha. You translated the name PAZ into PEACE, which is the word's translation, but personal nouns are not to be translated into any language.:hammer:

Hey Maria, sorry to bother you, but could you see if I did this correct? It is supposed to be in the imperfect tense, but we just learned it so I'm not that good (hablaba, hablabas, hablaba, hablabamos, hababais, hablaban, copied from the book :)) THANKS SOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!

Ok... done! I corrected it on top of what you wrote! Hope it helps! :)

Hey Maria, I've got a question. Do you use the plural form of the personal you?

I've never been taught it just the third person plural form.

What do you mean? Plural form of "you"?
it is:
Yo - I
Tu - You
El/Ella - He/She
Nosotros - We
Ustedes (vosotros for Spain) - You
Ellos - They

The vosotros form I guess. No one uses it. In my spanish book there are six forms of verbs. You, tu, el/ella/ud, nosotros, vosotros, ellos/ellas/uds.

The way it was explained to us was that the vosotros form was a plural form of tu.

That´s correct. Vosotros is the plural form of "Tu" (you). We learned grammar with that, but it is not used in Mexico, it is used normalyy in Spain. We say "ustedes". ;)

LOL!! Thank you Mom! :)
"Sweet" is an adjective I have only heard from my american friends.... I´m Scorpio, I´m sensitive, loyal and noble, but the sweetness doesn´t come that easily... only with people I care for.:animwink:
