My review of the Na'vi River Journey ride

"Hey dude - those pictures are gonna look like crap."

I thought every ride they warn you to turn off flash photography.
My photo on the first post is not using any flash :)

Here's a small snippet of my recording of the ride

I too think the length of the ride is fine.
Would be cool if objects were also lit up under water.

I'll say it, it sucks.
It really pales in comparison to FoP and is such a let down.

As a boat ride frozen, pirates and Marlstorm, the land, gran fiesta are much better.

This exactly. Na'vi River was a nice ride if you don't have to wait. We had a FP for it so we didn't have to wait but the line was 90 minutes. I would have been annoyed if I had waited 90 minutes for that ride. Sooo not worth it. Plus, it's way too short.

Major Caveat. I haven't ridding Na'vi River.

We talk a lot about the lack of a storyline. It sounds like it has as much of a story as the Jungle Cruise. It's a tour of a Pandoran river. No tour guide and so I miss what could have been great corny jokes (ex. Blue Hippy). However, Cameron probably wanted it to be semi-serious since it represents one of his babies. Maybe we're just supposed to board and enjoy our tour of the local fauna. I did cheat and watch the ride video on Youtube. It seems short and rather anti-climactic. Another two minutes after the shaman and maybe a run-in with one of the predators as an AA before a safe arrival (small drop, perhaps, that leads into the station).

If you say it sucks, that's one thing...but to say Frozen and Gran Fiesta are better? Kind of makes you lose credibility.
Perhaps not everyone's eyes.

Frozen is a better attraction in some ways. Although less than inspired, it does tell a more coherent story. It appears to disappoint far fewer guests. While I mourn Maelstrom, Frozen was an excellent example of a retrofit project.

The animatronics in both attractions are amazing. So Frozen wins that with quality and quantity. Electronic Actuators FTW, there. A new leap in animatronics as big if not bigger than compliant reactivity!

As for Gran Fiesta, I wouldn't imagine many guests favoring this attraction over NRJ. But, again, a great plus WDW didn't have to do. And it's great to see the old bots working again. And it's WAY better than the creepy doll-corpse merry-go-round.

I agree with all of this. I also think that Frozen is a better ride. I'm not a huge Avatar fan. Saw it, didn't love it. The movie is now 9 years old and the next one isn't planned for release until 2020. Personally, I don't think Avatar is all that relevant right now. I'm sure that will change in a couple of years. My kids are young and have never seen Avatar so the theme is completely lost on them. Frozen on the other hand, is well known by all age groups. My kids know the songs, they know the characters, so Frozen Ever After is a fun ride in that respect.

My girlfriend and I rode the rides in Pandora earlier this week...it was her first time seeing it all...and she actually liked River Journey more than Flight of Passage. She said it was relaxing and beautiful, but a bit too short.

I love NRJ. It's a great C ticket. It's not meant to be the end all be all of attractions. It commands long waits because it's new. It's a great attraction for what it is. The effects and AA are amazing. The queue is underrated. It's a great experience to help pad DAK's attraction lineup.

I was lucky enough to get on this attraction with zero wait last summer during rope drop. Huge disappointment. I didn't have to wait at all to get on and I STILL felt extremely let down. I can only imagine how someone who waited 90 minutes must feel after experiencing this!!!

Queue is lacking, story is nearly non-existent, journey is a little too short and it is just uninteresting and boring in general. Yes, it was beautiful to look at and the audio-animatronic is impressive - but that's it, as far as there being any good things to say about it.

I don't think I would ever wait longer than 15, 20 minutes for this attraction.

There is a very clear story: ACE is taking you on a canoe ride down the river.

The problem with Na'vi River Journey is this:

For the wide range of fantastical creatures that the Avatar movie gave us....there's really not much populating the ride itself. You have one impressive AA in the shaman, but all the other creatures are digital projections.

While I realize that its' not a thrill ride and there wouldn't be any chases from the giant panthers or anything they could at least have popped in a few of the hammerhead rhinos, or maybe the six-legged horses, even a herd of weird cobra-deer.
Surely the company that gave us a buildings chock-full of dinosaurs could have done so much better than what is currently there.

You have to look at where and when the story takes place. In NRJ, we're not avatars like during FoP, so many of the animals might be hiding from us. Furthermore, it takes place at night. Also, it's worth mentioning again that it's a c ticket and devoted its budget to one good AA compared to many ok ones.

Living with the Land is exactly what it's supposed to be. Na'vi River Journey isn't. Taking them at face value there are similarities but Na'vi River Journey has no purpose or real reason for existing. It's do-nothing premise and hollow backstory (if you can find one) do little to make the attraction - attractive to guests. At least with LwtL there's some edutainment value.

Then perhaps they shouldn't be putting e-ticket figures into a less-than-e-ticket attraction?
