My Holiday is in jeopardy!

I know it's a long way off but we have a family holiday planned for Oct/Nov 2009. There will be 10 of us coming over to WDW from England for 2 weeks. There will be me, my DH, my sister & her DH, my brother, my parents, my aunitie and uncle & my cousin.

We had agreed to stay in a villa like we did last time we did this (a few years ago and the first time we did it with so many!) but since then, me & my DH have been on our own (3 times), and my sister & her DH have been on their own (once). My sister has now announced that she wants to stay on I-Drive as they don't want to drive or anyone else to drive as they think the driver is "in charge" of the holiday. My DH was willing to drive and agree a itinerary before we go so no one is "in charge". Problem is, we hate I-Drive and if we have to stay in a hotel, we want it to be a Disney one. They won't pay the extra and as they prefer Universal, they want to be closer to that! I've suggested we go back to the villa idea but they won't!

We don't want to stay seperately as then it wouldn't be a family holiday (I don't live near home and don't get to see everyone often so this is a special treat!) and although me & my DH have stayed at WDW, no one else has. Everyone else is easy about where they stay, it's just us siblings who can't agree! :brick:

Has anyone got any ideas of how we can solve this?!?

Sounds very frustrating but the two car idea may be a solution...

I grew up in Orlando, and I hate I-Drive too....tacky busy and obnoxious district...

Good luck with that.

It's too bad that it sounds like they're being just this side of unreasonable. Travwl with a big group requires flexibility and compromise on all sides. Would a villa at Saratoga Springs work? It's still close to International Drive, but still on Disney property.

Good luck.

Well, it's a FAMILY vacation for a reason. If they're the only two who want to stay on I-Drive (for some reason... yuck) and go to Universal, rent another small car so the two of them can go off to Universal on their own. Someone suggested staying at Saratoga Springs - it is closer to I-Drive and that would please everybody. Or, you could check out all the Downtown Disney Resort Area hotels and see if any of them has a large suite.

I say it's a family vacation. Meaning everyone stays together. I also know that cost-wise, renting a house/villa is probably the way to go. My next door neighbor has a four bed, two bath that he rents weekly, and in the past five months it's been empty maybe three weeks. When you have a large group staying for two weeks, this is the most economical (usually).

So, either spend more money staying on I-Drive or on Disney property (actually, in any hotel, because you'll need two or more rooms) or get the villa and an extra rental car. There's a Budget rental on 192 by Old Town that has compact cars starting at about $25 a day.
