Trip Report My First Trip Report! *COMPLETED*

My First Trip Report!
Hi y'all! I'm tcool, and it's great to be here! For years I used these forums, and one day happened to come across this very forum I'm in right now! I thought it was an interesting idea, and have always wanted to create a report. However due to either never having the time, or the lack of pictures I could never commit to creating a report. However inspired by @Tuvalu 's many reports I decided to jump right in as it seems like community is just as nice and fun as that over at the Imagineering forum. So without adu? ado? adue? here's some background info on the trip!

When: February 16th to February 19th, 2018 AKA President's Day Weekend
Where: The Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham
Who: My brother, father, and I
Why: The Festival of the Arts, and to satiate the thirst for Disney

With those simple questions behind us, let's get to the real meat of a trip report: the trip! :D

Day 1: Pathelic Cilantro

You may be looking at the title of the day, and be wondering what is Pathelic? Well don't worry it'll be explained in due time! Around 2:40 PM my father and brother picked me up from school, and we left Miami to drive north towards the most magical place on earth: Walt Disney World! On the drive up my brother and I sang the entire Coco soundtrack as I'm just un poco loco for Coco, and if any song starts playing I quickly shift into karaoke mode including overdramatic flairs along with unnecessary pitch changes. No one said I was a trained singer ;)

After of two hours we made it to the namesake of the day, the Port St. Lucie/Fort Pierce plaza. The plaza started off with a bang for you see it was newly renovated, and was nice and modern. Located in the plaza was a chain known as Chicken Kitchen which in my book is a knock off Pollo Tropical. Now Pollo Tropical is one of my favourite fast food places, and they have a Tropichop which for me is a bowl of brown rice, black beans, and chicken. Chicken Kitchen offered something similar with their Chop Chop, and to change it up I decided to ask for brown rice, chicken, and Garlic Cilantro! However to my dismay it tasted like nothing losing all flavour of the garlic and cilantro. I felt robbed of something that on paper sounded delicious, but ended up being an Americanized mess of flavours. However the rice and chicken were okay, and maybe next time I'll see if they have any lime instead to add some flavour. The sauce in my book was disappointing enough to be the main title of the day as it was a Pathe-lic Cilantro sauce. ;)

For the remainder of the trip up my family played a road trip game we call the Animal Game. The Animal Game is a game in which you say a letter of the animal you're thinking of, and everyone else has to guess what it is; based on a limited amount of hints that they request. On the way up my brother tossed in an animal that starts with L, any guesses? Llama? No. Lemur? No. Lion? No. Liger? No. Leopard? No. Need some hints?
  1. Have we (my family) seen one? No.
  2. Is it alive? I think so. :cyclops:
  3. Is it real? I don't know, but I've heard people talking about them.
  4. Who talked about them? People...
Loch Ness Monster? No. And then we found out. If it wasn't obvious from those "helpful" hints it was a locust, and fun fact they're real! :hilarious:

MK%20Laura%20Scott%2010-07-2006%20002%20(Small).jpg

My pictures were much too blurry, so here's one I found right now. Don't worry the trip was only photo lite for now.

We reached the entrance sign at 7:00 PM, and from there we were only a short drive and ferry ride to the Magic Kingdom. We were on our way to the Magic Kingdom aboard the ferry, and arrived at 7:55 PM by this time Happily Ever After had already started. However that didn't stop us! We stopped in the Town Square as we watched the fireworks above. After the show we entered the Main Street bypass, and the backside of Tomorrowland as we entered into Tomorrowland. The time was 8:30 PM, and our fastpass for Peter Pan ended at 8:25 PM. We knew about the grace period present at the park, but we were worried would we make it? Would we queue Peter Pan's Flight? Would I have time to eat a Cheshire Cat Tail? I guess y'all just have to wait and see ;) Also don't worry the pictures will start flooding in after this post :p

Day 3: How Do You Do? Nice to Meetcha! Cont.

We realized we had never been to Rafiki's Planet Watch before today, and as such we opened up a map to find out where to go to. We soon boarded the train as we folded up the wheelchair to allow for more people in wheelchairs/scooters to get in. Unfortunately there was nothing interesting was spotted on our way to the Planet Watch, just the animal's paddocks. As we reached Planet Watch we overheard a couple from up north that was astounded by the variety of palm trees; something that we have always taken for granted since we live in Miami. It was definitely interesting to hear what others thought was interesting at Walt Disney World. Admittedly I can't really remember much from our experience here, and nor were any photos taken of our experience here. However something did stick out to me. If you recall on the ride up to Walt Disney World my family had played a road trip game called the Animal game. In which my brother talked about an animal that he wasn't even sure existed.

Animal-Kingdom-79.jpg

Spoiler alert: it exists! We saw those very same locusts within Rafiki's Planet Watch, and while that isn't my picture it does serve as a reminder that yes locusts do exist ;)

On the train ride back to Africa Lea and I began to move around fastpasses, and we were able to sync up our Kilimanjaro Safari fastpasses for the moment we got back. I had informed Lea and her mother that my father and I were going to use the restroom, and they decided to get inline for Kilimanjaro's Fastpass. As we wrapped up our refresh at the restroom my dad decided to buy water bottles for everyone! As we got back to the fastpass line, I realized I didn't have Lea's number! I soon called her up on Snapchat, and we soon met up as they approached us. We had found out that they gone in and out of line three times since it had moved so quickly. Regardless we joined them in line, and we were soon boarding our very own safari truck.

DSCF4258.JPG

At first we were worried as we hadn't seen any animals within the first area of the safari, but soon our luck began to change.

I have a story within my mind that these two elemtns were squaring off, Western style ready to fight. I don't know why, but they just seemed ready to go on and fight.

DSCF6389.JPG

This was actually a first for us! never before had we ever seen a cast member wandering the safari. I believe she was feeding the flamboyance of flamingos, but I could be wrong.

Our safari was soon coming to a close, and soon we have ran out of things to do in this side of the park until the next showing of the Festival of the Lion King. So instead we headed off towards Satu'li Canteen for lunch, and to Pongu Pongu for drinks. Lea and her mother went inside to get in line, and my dad and I were going to get in line however the line was far too long for our tastes. We soon headed inside Satu'li Canteen, and quickly ordered given there was no line, and even though they had a headstart Lea and her mother ended up getting their food after us. Now what did we all eat? Once again no pictures or food nor drinks.

I had the Chopped Wood-Grilled Chicken Bowl and a Pandoran Sunrise. I wasn't a huge fan of the chicken bowl as to me it tasted a bit too salty? I wasn't really sure, but something is leaning me against this restaurant in the future. The Pandoran Sunrise was actually extremely refreshing, and my favorit specialty nonalcoholic drink in Pandora. If you don't plan on eating here I do suggest on ordering a Pandoran Sunrise as it is extremely refreshing to drink.

My father had the Cheeseburger Steamed Pods and a Pandoran Sunrise. According to him it was good, but he wasn't a huge fan of the texture of the buns themselves.

dkb381.png

Lea had Slow-Roasted Sliced Grilled Beef Bowl and a water. She absolutely loved it, and was a huge fan of the flavours.

menu_item_image_2149.jpg

Lea's mother had the Sustainable Fish Bowl and a water. She said that out of all the bowls in the restaurant that her favourite was the fish, and the chicken was a close second. Which lead me to believe that it may have been the rice or sauce that caused the salty taste in my mouth?

satuli-canteen-pandora-fish.jpg

Now full and ready to continue our day in the park we headed over to Festival of the Lion King. However we were turned away due to my dad being in a wheelchair, and there was no handicapped seating left which was pretty disappointing. When we told Lea and her mom they seemed a bit shocked, and were about to leave the queue for the show. My father told them to stay if they wanted we had a fastpass for Flight of Passage now anyways. We bid farewell as we trekked back towards Pandora.

We reached the Flight of Passage test seat, and were hopeful that somehow, maybe this time, that my dad could ride. However unfortunately due to his knee he was not able to bend enough to fit without causing pain. So I asked my dad where he wanted to drop him off, and he asked to be left beneath the floating mountains on a bridge off the main path. He gave me his magicband, and told me I could ride twice. Which is exactly what I did! :D

DSCF6405.JPG

DSCF6406.JPG

I'm not going to lie the queue for Flight of Passage is beautiful, but also a long walk. Also it's shocking to me how much of the queue was skipped by going through the fastpass queue. Additionally I wasn't the only person who had managed to repeat the ride through fastpass twice as I rode both times with the same family. Which is crazy because what are the odds that will happen? After riding on a banshee I decided it was time to end my time in Pandora with a Night Blossom at Pongu Pongu. The Night Blossom itself is a good drink, but I'm not a huge fan of the boba balls nor the green portion of the drink. However when mixed around the flavours do balance out in a pleasing way.

Once again DFB comes in for the save!

With Pandora behind us there was only one thing left in the park I wanted to see for the day. For you see for a limited time only Jose Carioca and Panchito Pistoles of Three Caballeros was out and about in Animal Kingdom as they partake in the Carnivale themed dance party in Discovery Island. This was honestly at the top of my must-dos for the park simply because of how much I love these two! :inlove:

DSCF6415.JPG

DSCF6426.JPG

I sincerely hope that one day these two will one day be meetable in the parks as I would gladly wait in line to meet them.

Well after the ecstaticness of seeing the two out and about I decided to sit down with my dad from a distance as we enjoyed the atmosphere of the music and Animal Kingdom at sunset. It was at this point I decided to make fastpass reservations for a classic ride at one of the other parks, but park is it ;)

Regardless of the park to path to leave Animal Kingdom, but before we left I made sure to take a quick picture of the Tree of Life.

Up to come at night: new foods, new friends, new finds! ;)

Night 3: That's What Friends Are For
After leaving Animal Kingdom we decided to go to the Magic Kingdom as they were going to be open until midnight that night, and also because a friend I had made on these forums was waiting for me there. I had mentioned to my dad as we waited to board our ferry, and he gave me an okay. However he did have one request, and that was too leave him in a good spot for the Happily Ever After fireworks. So naturally I went off to find out if Happily Ever After had any handicapped designated areas, and they did it! A great new find, and a great view of the castle from where we were. However it was at this point I went off to meet up with my friend and his brother at Splash Mountain.

DSCF6428.JPG

We were communicating with each other via Snapchat, and he told me he was wearing a light blue shirt with Vineyard Vines on the back. At the time I had no idea it was a brand, and I actually was physically looking for a blue shirt that had vines printed on the shirt. Luckily I was also looking for two people my age looking around, and I decided to take a risk guessing it was them. The risk paid off, and I finally got to meet @David2319 along with his brother! They explained that their parents aren't coaster fans, and gave me the okay to use their magicbands. If they were there at that moment I would've thanked them a ton. Either way we were soon on our way on Splash Mountain splish splashing all the way down Chikapin Hill, askin' them "How Do You Do"? ;)

After riding Splash Mountain with the two, and getting moderately wet for riding front row we began our trek towards Pinocchio Village Haus to meetup with their parents. I met their parents, and they seemed to be really nice people! I'm pretty sure I said thank you, but I can't remember if I did. We waited around the carousel, and soon Happily Ever After began. I may have seen it already once this trip, but regardless it filled my heart with glee to see it once more. Throughout the show David and I would make some small talk. In which he shockingly revealed he had never seen the ORIGINAL JUNGLE BOOK!

Or at the very least couldn't remember where the song "That's What Friends Are For" :p , but he did say it was one of his favorite moments from the show. His parents asked if I wanted to see if they could squeeze an extra seat in so I could eat dinner with them at Be Our Guest, but I politely declined. I wished to be with my dad for dinner, and for at least the majority of the night. I bid them farewell, and a goodnight in case I didn't see them again. I called up my dad as began to make my way towards Casey's Corner. Here we waited for what seems forever, but we soon had our food with us. We had a challenge finding seating as they were more people sitting down without food than there was people with food. It was a bit annoying see all thee tables being reserved, but we got over it as we soon got a table of our own, and spoiler alert: we actually had food.

Now what kind of food? Well I had some corn dog nuggets and fries, and this was my first time ever eating corn dogs. How were they? Well they were sweet, but filling. Not one of my first picks, but still a delightful treat. I'm not a huge fry person so I didn't really have many of the fries, but I did try them regardless. Once again no photo, but I swear I did take a couple more food photos this trip ;):p

Corn-Dog-Nugget-Meal_Caseys_01.jpg

As for my father he decided to order the same thing as I did, and he seemed to really enjoy his! I ended giving him some of my mine as I began to feel full from my corndogs.

As we ate we were treated to Once Upon A Time, and that was a fun watch as we ate. If a table is available at Casey's, and you're looking for a scenic spot to eat as a show gown on then I think this restaurant could be a great choice.

As I went to go throw away our food and plates I jumped a bit as I heard a loud popping noise. I looked down, and sure enough a ketchup packet had exploded onto my shoes. I groaned, and picked up a few extra napkins before we left. My father and I made our way towards the Hall of Presidents a first for both of us. I was dreading it as not only did I believe the show was going to be unbearingly boring. As we sat down in the lobby I brought out my napkins, and went to work cleaning up the ketchup from my shoes; as the show doors began to open up I quickly made my way to throw away my napkin.

Unfortunately not only out of respect for the viewers, but something I thought would've been rude to do in general I didn't photograph nor take video of the Hall of Presidents. However I do think the Hall of presidents was an excellent display of edutainment, and an interesting piece of Disney history to be experienced by anyone. I may not do it every trip, but I'll be sure to return to this show maybe in 2020.

As we exited Hall of Presidents it had become time to go and take one last ride to see the classic Redhead on our only fastpass of the night, Pirates of the Caribbean.

DSCF4239.JPG

We Miss the Redhead! We Miss the Redhead! :p

As we were leaving Pirates we were sent towards the Elevator of the Caribbean a hidden gem that may guests skip on their typical day to the Magic Kingdom. Next to the elevator were a flight of stairs that from where I saw them had an actual coat of dust growing on them. A bit odd, but no one goes through here on a regular basis anyways. We were soon off the jaunty Elevator of the Caribbean, and I went off to buy me a We Wants the Redhead pin to add to my collection of Pirates of the Caribbean pins. At this time my dad gave me permission if I wanted to go back to @David2319 , and to drop him off near the Crystal Palace. I obliged, and soon he went off wandering Main Street as I went to The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.

David's parents had once again allowed me to use their fastpass, and soon David, his brother, and I were in a mine where a million diamonds.....shine! It was a smooth mine ride through the hills, and overall a fun experience that I had not otherwise planned on experiencing. Once again thanked David and his parents as we all left towards the train station where my father was awaiting me. I bid @David2319 and his family adeu as I went off to meet up with my father.

We arrived back to our hotel with little to no issues that night, and packed up as tonight was our last night of our stay. However we knew not to worry as by this point we already had a second trip planned for this upcoming April. However even though we were on our last night, and already had another trip planned we decided to venture off to one my park the next day.

Funny you said that the corn dog nuggets are sweet. I always thought that myself!! I usually use a lot of mustard to offset the sweet taste they have. It has to be something in the breading...
I do believe it is the breading, it'll be pretty weird if it was the meat that was sweet.

I think the next time I order them I'll make sure to grab some condiments, thanks for the tip! :D

Day 4: Goodbye, So Soon?
Here we are at the home stretch, and I feel like I have enough time now that I have gotten midterms out of the way. Nethertheless let the Disney trip report continue! :D

My father and I woke up at 7:15 AM as we still needed to pack our bags, and load up the car. Also we still had a carrot cupcake from Sprinkles leftover, and instead of throwing it away immediately my father decided to try it as I got ready. When I came back the cupcake was gone!

Into the trash can ;)

For you see apparently it was to sweet for him, and he couldn't finish it due to its sweetness. Now with the cupcake out of the way I took everything down, and got the car ready to drive out to our last park. As we were driving I noticed the time 8:30 AM, and I became worried that we wouldn't make our dining reservation at 9:30 AM. However we made it without hiccups whatsoever!

DSCF6432.JPG

Now we arrived to the restaurant without any hiccups, but I never said there wasn't any ;)

A couple of months before the trip I had booked Crystal Palace without telling my dad, and planned on asking him later if he was okay with dining. I asked him a month before if he wanted to eat at any table services, and he said no. So I went to go cancel the reservation, but no matter how much I tried to cancel the reservation it just wouldn't go away. I attempted to call Disney Dining, but the call would always drop whenever I called them no matter what phone I used. I was a bit worried, but decided to keep the reservation and pay the $20 dollars myself for not going. My father had no idea I had booked the Crystal Place, but he said he felt like eating at a table service a week before the trip. I happily suggested Crystal Palace, and he agreed! :D

Flashforward to when we were checking in, and we were not in the Crystal Palace's servers. We gave them different phone numbers, different names, and I ended up showing the My Disney Experience App that contained our confirmation code. The lady checking us in took my phone, and inputted the code. Still no reservations appeared :bored:

The hostess however told us not to worry, and told us to wait just 10 minutes until we got sat down at a table. So my father and I decided to relax, and wait to be called. Then 10 minutes late on the dot we were called in, and soon we began our Friendship Day Festivities. Within minutes of sitting down Piglett, Tigger, and Eeyore had been t our table in rapid fire succession. Unfortunately I can't find Piglett nor Eeyore in my photos, but here's Tigger!

DSCF6438.JPG

Now I am not ashamed of what I ate at the buffet, and I did not take photos of the food. However I did try what seemed to me to be the entire buffet, and deduced the following: that the multigrain croissants had a better taste and texture to the regular croissants, I still don't like honey nor honey yogurt, Mickey Waffles are still delish, and I was too full to eat any ice cream for breakfast. However that was my original intent :p

As we were eating Winnie the Pooh came by, and then right before we left we got to meet Piglett, Eeyore, and Tigger once more. I believe that means we were in the Crystal Palace for a full cycle?

DSCF6444.JPG

DSCF6446.JPG

After the Crystal Palace, and no longer having any rumblies in our tummies my father and I were off to head the call of the jungle!

DSCF6448.JPG

About those falls....

DSCF6450.JPG

I present to you the world famous Schweitzer Rock, and if I do say so myself it is one of the more boulder additions to the Jungle Cruise ;)
In reality seeing the Jungle Cruise without the falls was pretty shocking to me, and definitely had me confused. So now I need to ask the question where has the falls gone! I do hope they have returned, but that one mishap wouldn't damper my day! :)

As we were on our way to our next fastpass I knew there was one thing I needed to try before we left the Magic Kingdom. I had made sure to pass by the Cheshire Cafe, and picked up the Cheshire tail! Oh.My.Gosh. By far one of the best things I have eaten at Walt Disney World Resort. It has just the right amount of flakiness in the croissant portion, and the chocolate had been kept so warm that it was still melted in the inside! The sugary frosting while there never was too overpowering, and all the flavours worked together in harmony! :inlove:

20180219_125031_HDR.jpg

As for the next fastpass it wasn't that long of a walk ;)

DSCF6462.JPG

Thank goodness we had booked a fastpass for this ride in advance because there was no way we were going to wait nearly a hour for Pooh. We love him, but there's only so much we are willing to wait.

However with all of that fun now passed us it was time to bid adieu to Magic Kingdom as I had school bight and early the next day, and I was still up in the kingdom.

DSCF6463.JPG

With one look back we were gone, and our way back to Miami. With that I leave you all with one last message....

Goodbye, so soon
And isn't it a shame?
We know by now
That time knows how to fly.
So here's goodbye so soon
We'll go our separate ways,
With time so short I'll say so long
And go, so soon,
Goodbye!
