My EPCOT tribute

I use Rhino to draw the vectors, Illustrator to color it, and Photoshop to finish 'em off. The aged look is acheived with concrete textures.

You use Rhino!? I didn't know people in the field actually used that. I saw a few people using Rhino when I took a tour of SOM's San Francisco office, but for the most part I thought it was just a college thing. :o That's reassuring to hear it's actually used in the "real" design world. I love Rhino, it feels so much more natural than AutoCAD.

Sorry, back to your scheduled topic.

Yeah, I know I said before that I love all the logos and find each one interesting...but the WoL logo is just ugly. It's the oddball of the group and doesn't fit in with the simplicity of the rest of them. Originally each poster was going to have the pavillion as well since those are unique in their own way, so after I dropped that idea I decided to revisit it for the WoL poster. The DNA helix in front of the pavillion was great, and it kept with the geometric nature of the rest of my designs. And the carbon hexagons kind of hinted back at the logo's inscribed pentagon.

I've always thought that about the WoL logo as well... all the other logos are very abstract and yet still graphically clear, while WoL's felt much too literal.

I'm still holding out that someday, they'll reintroduce logos for each pavilion.

I love Rhino. It's so much more intuitive to enter in commands and dimensions. It's definitely used in the workplace, but it also depends what the software is being used for.

I'm not sure I'd go quite so far as to say it's ugly, but it's certainly the oddball out. It doesn't have a rounded design like the others, just copies the Da Vinci image (the name of it escapes me at the moment) instead of using an abstract shape to elegantly convey the topic, and is just simply 100% blatantly beat-you-over-the-head obvious about it. It seems like it would have been relatively simple enough for them to create a lovely logo evoking a DNA helix.
Yeah, maybe ugly wasn't the right word. But the person doesn't even look correctly proportioned to me. And like you said, an abstract shape would have been much better like all the other logos.

I've decided to go ahead and do two more posters. One for the World Showcase, and one for EPCOT as a whole. They may take awhile, but there are still the nine others to keep everyone happy for now.

These are simply incredible. I will be going to WDW in 22 days, so I am saving money right now, but when I get back home and money isn't so tight...I will be making purchases.

Thank YOU for sharing your talent and love of EPCOT/WDW with all of us.

Sweet! Have fun at the parks! Hopefully in 22 days I'll have the other two done as well.

I am probably going to get a lot of resistence on this....but I would like to see one for CoP.I think with the great work you are doing I could see you doing one for Frontierland, Tommorrowland,Liberty square etc. You know one I think would do really well .......if you did one for Mainstreet. Something you could immediately recognize.

Anyway, keep up the nice work!:sohappy:

I actually think that would be a prime candidate for something like this. It keeps with the "old" attractions. So I'll definitely think about that some more. I'm thinking about possibly giving each park their own style. So these are all in the EPCOT style, and the other parks would have different treatments.

Beautiful work! I love them and may seriously consider purchasing one for a poster in my room!

One question though... how is selling them legal? I mean, its wonderful work and you should be able to make money off of them, but isn't it copyright/trademark infringement with you using specific names and symbols?

I'm not going to discuss much on here about legal issues. If I were using the actual logos, then there would be a problem, but what I'm doing is a "parody" of the logos and pavillions. And even then, I've seen other people blatantly copy the real thing such as: http://www.zazzle.com/spookybear, and no one says a word. So I'm sticking to my guns that what I've done is a parody, and that'll be the last I say about that.

They are pretty cool, actually Wonders caught my eye right away. I think Imagination and Wonders are my favorites, but they all have that cool 80s feel to them.

That works for me. So long as you covered your bases. Thanks.
