Must Do's at the Disneyland Resort

Does this nice, old hotel happen to have a problem with it's elevator system?
Yes it does. They seem to be up and down quite a bit
If you stay here again, request a room on the 13th floor. Whenever I'm waiting a long time for an elevator, it's because they're all on the 13th floor... so you must just be able to hop on one there whenever you want!

Here is a must-try next time you are back there Dr. Jones:

Buy these at the Jolly Holiday Bakery ....and prepare yourself for a blissful state of mind.

She'll be here all night!
Hmm...Matterhorn is a classic, so I hit that when I go there. Aladdin is the greatest show Disney has ever done at a park, so I make sure to hit that one. There's this nice old abandoned hotel that I like to stay at when I go. Silly Symphony Swings...for some reason I like this one a lot. Even though the music is from The Band Concert. Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. On my last trip to WDW this past August they randomly started playing the music on the bus ride and I was very excited. And Pirates: The Complete edition.

I usually go for six days so there's plenty of time to do EVERYTHING!!!

Also, I was in WDW for two weeks and did Pirates maybe three or four times. I was in Disneyland and did it probably 10 times. Um...yup.

I agree with you on Aladdin. We've hit it every time we've been out there.

I SO want to see this stage show. The previous visits to DL robbed me of the chance, as each day i was there the show was 'dark' for that day. Du'oh !
I vividly remember my first visit in 2007...and seeing 'Aladdin' onstage at DCA was at the top of my list of must-dos. Alas, it was not being performed that day.
The next visit last year...same thing. My timing was really off in relation to this show!

THIS time however...i WILL be seeing it finally. Very much looking forward to it, as i have heard nothing but great things about it!

We love Blue Bayou and Carthay Circle. But I've heard wonderful things about Napa Rose and Steakhouse 55. (Next trip will be tough. I doubt is be able to swing all 4..)

And I know that this might be sacrelige, but I've never actually has a Dole Whip...

Let the stoning begin.
I've never had one either

But I'm allergic to pineapple, so

What gets me every time is the Genie always has one pop culture joke that absolutely kills me. Never fails.

It really is one of the best stage shows that they've done, maybe outside of some of the ones on the cruises.

It would be a good enough stage show to run for years if the Genie just had a normal funny script... turning him essentially into an improv comic is what pushes the show over the top for me. When we went in November, he was making jokes about the demise of Twinkies and Disney buying Star Wars just days after those things happened. It was amazing.

@Figments Friend , I had a similar problem were it took me several trips to see the show, except it was mostly just my poor planning  preventing me from seeing the show, and not the universe out to get me like what happened to you. Now you're making me feel bad. ;)

Indeed. On our one and only trip to DLR, we happened upon an insanely long line outside of the theater and debated on whether to wait for it or not. We decided to get in line and wait...and the wait was long...and it was kinda hot...and I was getting grumpy by the time the line started moving. But we eventually got inside and saw the show and it was *TOTALLY* worth the wait in the sun. Will definitely do it again on our 2nd trip (just under 2 weeks away).

No worries...i will be seeing it this time around as i will be on my own and will make it a priority.
Also, it helps that this time i will be in town on days the show is not 'dark'....yay!
I know i will love it.

I would say 60% of the appeal of visiting a Disney Theme Park for me is the live entertainment offerings, in all it's forms.
Live stage shows, music groups, parades, you name it...
Watching performers alive in their element is always great to witness.

That's so funny to me about Haunted Mansion Holiday? What's the reasoning behind the dislike?

I think it's a fun way to change things up during the holidays. Maybe it helps that I enjoy Nightmare Before Christmas.

I think it's because the mix of christmas and halloween just don't work that well. I liked Nightmare Before Christmas, but the bright day glow colors in parts of the overlay just look cheap to me. Reminds me of a state fair spook house ride. Only part I find nifty at is is the smell of gingerbread.

I missed a couple of things. In all honesty, it depends on the time of year you go. I went in high season and the lines were really long. But in a lower season, you might be able to do more. @raven24 would know more specifics.

It depends. Are you planning on actually doing EVERYTHING? Or by everything, you mean everything you specifically want to do? Either way, it can be possible if the crowds are right and park hours. I would visit one park a day for the first two days, then park hop on the remaining days.

This. So much wisdom in the bolded portion. Don't try to hop right away. Out if the different trips I've done I've spent one full day at each park and then park hopped on the other days. That's the best way to hit everything.

Agreed. Park hopping, in general, wastes time. It's not as bad in DLR because the two parks are so close together. But there's still time spent leaving on park, walking across the esplanade, and entering the other park. That's time that could be spent enjoying whatever park you're in.

That said, due to attraction closures and only one night to catch Fantasmic! during our upcoming trip, I'll be spending the first part of the day in DCA and then hopping over to DL for the last few hours just so I can catch all of those things that won't be open/showing later in the week. Fortunately, there'll be 4 full days of non-hopping fun after that.

Thanks for this advice.
I will be getting tix when i arrive, and have been debating on if i should bother with the *Hopper* option for DLR.
For WDW it is a absolute must for me when i visit ( EPCOT is the daily evening spot..) but for DLR i am not so sure after already visiting before.

I am leaning towards *yes* simply so i can hop back and forth on a couple of the days to re-see many of the entertainment options/nightime shows.
The first two days i will not be *Park Hopping* at all...that i am sure of.
