Ok. So last night we showed my daughter different resorts and she keeps insisting that she wants to stay at the music resort. lol. Which is about 2 grand cheaper. Any opinions?

We were gonna stay at the contemporary but she wants to stay at the music resort.

I'm fine either way. We will be going in late feb.

Differences between values and deluxe hotels:
Contemporary is walking distance from MK. It has monorail access to MK and Epcot via the TTC
Values, you have to take a bus to all 4 theme parks. Sometimes, the All Stars share buses with other All Star resort

Values have their room doors facing the outside like a motel. Contemporary is all indoors. (which is nice when it is hot and/or rain)

Contemporary will have covered bus stops. Values won't. (which is nice when it is hot and/or rain)

Contemporary has sit down (Wave) and Signature dining (Cali Grill). Values have a food court only

Contemporary rooms have queen beds and are 394 sq ft. All Star has double beds and are 260 sq ft.

Contemporary has recreational stuff to do, like water sports.

I don't think the values have coffee makers in the room, but they have coffee at the food court.

You can see the Electric Water Pageant from the Contemporary which is nice also.

If you are just looking at pictures, the all star resorts definately have a huge appeal. There are a lot of things you can't see in the pictures that make the Contemporary a superior experience. You will have to look at the pros and cons of each and determine what is the best fit for you.

Yea I'm doing that now. Looking at these prices....It feels like I'm paying alot for a room I'm not going to be spending much time in. I mean I'd rather spend my money on other things i guess. Plus we can go in March rather than September if we stay there.

Have you considered a split stay? Perhaps stay at the ASMusic for a couple of nights. I think you could enjoy the amenties and the visual appeal in that length of time. The Contemporary is a great resort with so much to offer. It would be a shame not to experience them.

Wait, this is easy, explain to her that Chef Mickey's is at the contemporary and Mickey Mouse will be cooking her meals there! And the pool has a slide!

The All-Star Music is my favorite All-Star resort (also love Pop Century). I have stayed at resorts from value to deluxe, and my girls (ages 4 and 6) will pick a value any day over a moderate or deluxe because they love the theming. The rooms and beds are smaller at the values, and there are not as many amenities (no sitdown restaurants, no hot tub, no fitness room). The only amenity we usually use is the pool and sometime the playground so the values work fine for our needs. The main pool at the ASMusic is based on the Three Caballeros, and they have activities there during the day like karaoke and trivia and they do a movie at night (actually they do this at most of the resorts) and it's a lot of fun. I absolutely love the Broadway section of the resort also.

Many people don't like the value resorts because the theming is loud and it's not necessarily luxurious, but they work well for how our family vacations at Disney. Another issue that other people have is with bus transportation, but we generally drive to the parks so I can't speak to that.

Thanks so much! I'm really not too concerned with sit down meals and all that stuff either. But that really sounds right up our alley. I mean if it was me and my bf then maybe we would stay somewhere nicer but for just me and her i think its perfect. She isn't gonna be worried about all those extras and neither am i.

Hmmm...your two choices are my two favorite resorts at Walt Disney World, so in my opinion you can't go (too) wrong.

Since you're already getting good info and doing more research I won't go too far into all of the differences but there are plenty.

Overall, I'd have to suggest staying at All Star Music. I think it is a good place to stay (it's easily my favorite value resort) and if your daughter seems drawn to it I'm sure she'll be excited to stay there. Perhaps save a stay at the Contemporary for another time and just make a reservation for Chef Mickey's this time. Keep the extra $2000 you'll save in the vacation fund for the next adventure.

Yea i looked at the art of animation too. I was thinking about that one also. I seems pricey for a value resort though.

If I were five years old, I'd pick a Value hotel. If I wanted to impress a 5yo, that's where I'd take them.

I don't personally care for them. The rooms are about as small as a room could get. They decor around the place is garish. No valet guys and bellmen coming up when you pull in. No room service to speak of. There is just nothing about them that makes a vacation easier and more relaxing.

But they are cheap and appealing as heck to kids.

I never let a kid pick unless I'm prepared to stay at a Value or the Contemporary.

AoA is charging a ridiculous amount of money for what they offer. I wouldn't pay it. There are much, much nicer condos for about a third of what AoA is charging. And they add five or ten minutes to the commute. AoA is cute, but you can do SO much better.

Well actually we were going to stay at the contemorary if not the value. I don't need a bellman or valet. I'm not gonna be using alot of the extras that most resorts offer. This trip really isnt about me. It's about her and i just want her to have fun. I'm not trying to impress anyone. I'm just taking my daughter to disney for her birthday.

I'm not disagreeing with anyone, we are just excited about the new resort. The suites at AoA are pricey compared to regular Value resort rooms, but by the time you go in February, they will have single rooms available for comparable prices. We always stay at moderates (POR 5x, CBR 1x) or deluxe (YC 3x, GF 1x) but the AoA has us rethinking our next trip's accommodations. The theming is above and beyond anything we have seen so far. We sometimes extend our stays by an extra day or two, and wind up at Pop Century, and this seems much more elaborate. We watched some of the construction from Pop Century last year, and have been keeping up with the bells and whistles on line (like the underwater speakers in the pool!) and My 13 year old wants to go there badly! We will try it at least once. Personally, I have never not had a magical moment at a WDW resort, so I wouldn't worry about where too much. I just know that you and your little girl will have a wonderful time that you will remember for a lifetime! It may be all the more magical knowing she picked the resort. Go with your heart, you can't go wrong!

If you stay at Music (which we really liked) make sure to take a walk over to All Star Movies. (which is our favorite value resort). If she is at all into Toy Story or 100 Dalmations or Herby there are tons of great photo opportunites. My kids still each have a picture of them with Woody and Buzz in their rooms.

I absolutely love the Broadway section of the resort also.

I agree, Music is also my favorite All-Star.
And despite staying in the Rock n' Roll section on my only stay there, I also agree that the Broadway section is the coolest. I'd probably request that if I stayed there again.

The vast amount of people on this forum will leave you with, well, a vast amount of opinions. Consequently, mine is one among many. The All-Star resorts are not 5-star hotels, but they are more than adequate for a vacation stay. The Music resort is well themed and whimsical. I believe that you will experience a degree of consistency in cleanliness, safety, and adequacy. If you spend the greater part of your days at the parks, this resort will certainly provide all that you need for a decent night's stay. The noise levels differ according to the location of your room, and the place is nothing that can be considered as luxurious, but it is a clean, well decorated, and conveniently located place. On to the next opinion...

The All Stars are great. Besides, you're just going to be in the room to sleep. I don't know many that go on vacation to see a hotel room. LOL Go, stay at the All Stars Music, have fun. We stayed at the ASMusic Jazz section one year, and it was awesome. Nice atmosphere at night.

I have stayed at the Music Resort and it is a great family hotel. The lobby was fun and the staff was very helpful. All of the kids were given balloons at check in too! The rooms are very basic but if you are planning on being out and about it dosen't matter. They are clean and I didn't here a lot of noise. They have pool parties in the late afternoon although February could be a bit cold for swimming. I never waited that long for a bus but the were a bit crowded at night returning to the resort. They do share with the Sports and Movies. I have never stayed at Contemporary but have stayed at 2 other Deluxe resorts so I know how different they are from value resorts. I prefer Deluxe of course but I can see why the Music resort would be appealing to a child. You would save a lot of money but that can always be used for a future stay at a Deluxe!
