Rumor Muppets to Take Over The Hall of Presidents

Count me among those that think Hall of Presidents need to change. I think at this point I am willing to admit, I wouldn't care if it disappeared at all.

I think that the sincere/historical nature of that attraction made sense in the 1970s, but as Disney has other parks for that type of fare (like Epcot) there seems to be a need for Magic Kingdom to be more comical and family friendly.

Oh I hope this is true!

Did any of the naysayers actually see the street show Disney did with the Muppets where they presented American history? It was funny, touching, patriotic, and entirely entertaining! I think the Muppets can walk that fine line of adding humor but also respecting the attraction. If you don't think HoP is on its last legs or in desperate need of a fix, you are lying to yourself. Disney is in a place where they are trying to distance themselves from controversy (see Splash) and the HoP is pretty divisive. They needed security in place four years ago?!?!?! Security! Sadly, this is the world we live in and if the muppets can inject humor and warmth into an outdated show I say BRING IT ON! I was so sad when they took the street show away and this would make my day!

The Muppets would only be interjected into the history part of the show, the controversial parts (i.e the "roll call" and current President speech) would remain mostly the same.

It would still be divisive...

Did it? It's attendance peaked in 1987, then 1997, then Disney messed it up and it didn't recover attendance wise until 2016.
It was touted as a failure before Eisner/Wells came in by the people who wanted to break up the company. EC was actually very successful and helped build the Central Florida area as much as, if not more than, the MK in 1971.

D-MGMS opened in ‘89 so it ate into the other parks’ growth though it increased days spent at WDW. Remember, Disney used to tout MK and EC as two day, not full day, parks.

WDW late 80s/90s boom would not have been possible without EC.

If it happens IMHO its another Disney gem that will be ruined in the name of PC. Let HoP stand as is. I'm a fan of the Muppets and enjoyed their comical stint in Liberty Square. It was fun and a nice addition to the area, but does not belong in HoP which should remain in place, as is, a historical show meant to briefly showcase the Presidents and the times this country has endured. Turning it into a Muppet show is disrespectful. I realize there has been and will be divisive feelings and animosity between both sides, but removing what we dont like, and what we arent willing to face and work through is not the answer. Disney controlled the rude guests before and they can continue doing so again.

Yes I saw the street show. It was great. So is the Hall of Presidents. I’m not sure why we can’t have both.

If you visited Epcot in 1999,2000 there was Millenium Village near France. It was a showcase of entertainment and countries represented, Israel, Chile, Brazil, etc . Israel had young Israel teenagers cast members dancing to music of their country while we watched . We did notice more security around the area than other places.

Can you expand on that a little bit? I'm having a hard time picturing what the big holdup would be.

The musical acts/performances in each show. If you believe the rumors, that is why they stopped releasing the seasons on DVD. It became too expensive/time consuming to clear each musical number for release. The original release agreements didn't cover all forms of media or something similar. Newer release agreements often include verbage akin to "rights to all forms of media, current and future" or something. No one anticipated people wanting to/be able to watch shows at a later time, never mind on demand using DVD or even Streaming.

I don't think this comparison works. Disney is an entertainment company, not the nation's capital. They are in the market of making people happy and the more controversial parts of their parks are getting a closer look.
The part that bothers people would remain...
