Part of me feels like yelling 'STANDARDS!??!??! WHAT STANDARDS!???!!'
And while I enjoyed the Showboat Jubilee at MK (never saw it at DL), I agree with you. It's nothing that great. It's the type of thing Disney always USED to do and not make a big deal about it.
Now, they take the snowglobes off the parade floats and steal music from Tokyo and they call it a new parade.
BTW, a debate I'd love to have is whether WDW newbie fans (i.e those who have only been visiting since say Y2K to make it simple) are less discerning/simpler folks or just don't know any better.
I think they simply don't know better.
Most modern Disney fans grew up on the corporate-driven, Pixie-Dust-centric "Disney" and don't realize everything the company once offered.
I'm still shocked when I think of how high the bar used to be for entertainment, and how low it is now. Just think about it...
Surprise in the Skies, Sorcery in the Sky, the massive Christmas parade (2x the length of the current one), July 4th specials, Easter specials, various anniversary events, Tapestry of Nations/Dreams, Diamond Horseshoe, Christmas Illuminations.
The list gets much longer if you consider how the MK day parade changed with completely new floats and costumes about every two years.
