Hi everyone,

In another post, someone said that the storyline in the Safaries was gone. Is this true? I mean, I'm not crushed, but I thought the poachers/Big Red/Little Red plot was actually good...

Havn't read anything about that around here. Hope its not true, I loved the plot line. Its just not Animal Kingdom if I don't hear "Simba one! Come in Simba one!"

There was a thread on here a while ago mentioning that this might happen. I hadn't heard that it actually happened though.

I was just at AK last Sunday and the woman's voice is gone from the radio transmission. It's hard for me to remember her role, but she sounded like a snooty british doctor. Anyhoo she is gone. They still have the poachers story-line going.

I thought this time they made a bigger production about the radio station. The driver we had was more like a missing gangster in GMR than a safari leader. And I felt like I should be hanging with Bob Marley listening to the song on the radio. Gives one pause...

That thread also stated that the airplane was gone from the end, didn't it?

Well, the poachers storyline with Wilson and Miss Jobson has changed. Miss Jobson is gone, and it's just Wilson on the radio. Though Jobson still appears in one of the two videos along the queue, and the poaching video with Wilson is still at the end of the queue.

Rather than poachers, the bad guys are now more "elephant-nappers". Big Red is no longer mentioned, and it's just that Little Red hasn't been seen and is then "missing" as you go along. It's toward the end of the ride that it's found out that she's been taken, so you're asked to help save her.

In the new storyline, I don't think Wilson is in a plane anymore, thus the reason the plane was removed from the final scene of the attraction. Before, Wilson and Miss Jobson were supposedly in a plane flying over the Preserve.

I think part of the problem is that people using FastPass missed the Jobson video entirely, and had no idea who she was supposed to be. At least both FastPass and Standby saw the poaching video with Wilson, so he's not a complete stranger when you talk to him over the radio.

Back when I was an undergrad, I worked in a hotel and sometimes drove the shuttle. We got a radio put in to let the driver know about airport pickups, and I thought I was absolutely hilarious when one day I said that into the radio...unfortunately, I was the only one who "got" it. Whatever, it was still funny :D

We were there last year in either April or in July, we had gone on the safari and there was no Wilson, no Miss Jobson and no plane. Also there was no baby elephant in the jeep too. My wife and I thought it was very strange that they had gotton rid of all of those things.

they still have the jeep!

I think the Jeep in question is the one that used to drive along and shoot at you as you were chasing it. That Jeep wasn't that reliable, and was removed well before the latest changes in the storyline.

21 May 2007: Changes to Kilimanjaro Safaris.

The new audio script for the exchanges between the driver and the airborne wardens has been in use over the weekend. It isn't certain whether this is final, or still being tweaked. The main changes are:
  • Wilson initially checks in with the driver almost immediately into the ride.
  • The voice actor used appears to have changed from the original Wilson. Whilst the voice is similar, it does appear to be a different actor.
  • The main concept of the story is that a little elephant has been spotted wondering around on it's own, and there is concern for the baby elephants mother and poachers.
  • There is no mention of the elephants being called Big Red and Little Red.
  • In general, there is less talk between the driver and the warden, giving more time for the driver to give more details about the animals.
  • Ms Jobson is completely removed from the audio.
  • The "Tommies... TOMMMIES" line is gone.
  • The African radio station music now plays between the Mandrill area and the bridge collapse scene.
  • The story of helping to force the poaches towards Wilson's plane is still in place.
  • The truck with the baby elephant has been repositioned, making it much more obvious that the elephant is in the back. See the photos below.

Here's the thread from this morning: http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=269151

"New and different things this time

GREEN - improvement
YELLOW - neutral
RED- Not!

Safari - RED

Hey, l liked Miss Jobson, and the poachers jeep and the airplane. All gone now."
But the jeep is gone now too?

As a jeep owner, I'd cry if it was ever removed!
I was there less then a week ago, and the Jeep is still there at the end with little red in it.
Funny story though----apparantley our raido didn't work, so our driver had to improvise the entire time, and she went right back to the poaching story, saying "I bed Wilson would like us to help save Little Red" and such. I had heard it once before with the new script, and I thought it was funny to go back to the old script for a day. She did an excellent job improvising though---one would never know that you needed a radio.
I did miss flipping through the radio stations to find music----that part really adds a lot to the experience.

Yeah, I don't know why they bothered to change it.

They took a lot of the story behind the ride out of it.

I miss my favorite part, "Ms. Jobson, no one calls them Thompson Gazelles. They are Tommys, TOM-MYS! Over."
