If I am not mistaken, even though Magic Kingdom is larger than Disneyland, they managed to have both MTWR and Pooh. If they are so much smaller than MK, why did Toad have to go???? Why not just build it where 20k was, like they are with the Pooh playground? Don't get me wrong, I love Pooh, but I miss Toad:(

It's funny... Magic Kingdom is much larger, and it houses about eight attractions in Fantasyland. Disneyland's has, oh, about thirteen. They have a Golden Horseshoe show, too...

Anyway, about Toad. It would have been nice to see a nice Pooh ride be built on the current 20K site instead (this was actually considered for a while in the mid/later 90s), but, well, you know. It's all about the budget.

Disney figured that, well, hardly any tourists could name a single character from Mr. Toad (except for maybe Mr. Toad). Whereas many more could name several characters from Pooh. . . and get merchandise sales.

Don't forget that Disneyland ditched their Country Bears in favor of Pooh... so it's not like they didn't give up anything to make way for the hunny guzzler.

The way I see it, that way, at least they live on on one coast or another... there's still one Country Bear show and one Toad ride.

Wht did DL get rid of the bears??? I don't understand that one either!:veryconfu
Because Cynthia Harris had no intention of keeping the Animatronic show in the face of a marketable character...

They actually had room to build Tokyo Disneyland's Pooh ride in that space, but instead made it smaller...

They actually had room to keep a bear show and still have the ride, but instead took up more space...

Luckily, Ms. Harris is no longer with Disneyland.

Disney did it to torture you.

For anyone who cares... There are pieces of MTWR being sold on e-bay.. They are not the best pieces of memorobilia, yet for all you MTWR fanatics out there this is your chance to own one of the scraps of this long gone but not forgotten ride.. Personally I'd rather spend my cash on some park hopper passes...:p

From what I understand Disneyland got rid of the bears just as the movie "The Country Bears" was released. How is that a marketing strategy??? I think we are all grateful that Harris is extinct!! That movie made me want to go see the show again! IDIOTS!! I was worried WDW might get the same brilliant idea.:hammer:

One thing I never understood was why so many people are so darn distraught over the demolition of Toad. I mean, there's one in California still! Over at DL, we never really made THAT much of a fuss over the Bears leaving, of course there was complaining and quite a few tears, but we've forgotten about it since there is still one in both WDW and Tokyo...

...but, man, those Toad fans really can't make it to the west coast, can they?...I'm sorry, it's just a question I've never gotten answered...

We actually have never made it to the west coast, truthfully Chicago is as far west as I have ever been:lookaroun . Anyways, Fla is far more accessisble to us living in MI than Cal , my husband usually flies his own plane and of course it costs much more to go the extra distance to Cal. BUT that said, we are planning a future trip there!

Magic Kingdom: Fantasyland - The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh - Pooh Adventures - Opening in the summer of 1999 at the former site of venerable Mr. Toad's Wild Ride which closed September 8, 1998, you will ride Hunny Pot vehicles through a Blustery Day in the Hundred Acre Wood. Visit with Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Gopher, Owl, Rabbit, Tigger, Kanga and Roo as you experience Owl's toppling house, appear in Pooh's dream of Heffalumps and Woozles, save Piglet from the rising water in a Floody Place.

I have never had the chance to ride MTWR...when did Pooh replace it? Does anyone have video of it?

I`ve just put a Fantasyland history trilogy up at DIsney Central - the 2nd one has both tracks of Mr Toad.

I agree that it was replaced because sadly, The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad isnt the most popular movie, even though its very well done and really entertaining. I was lucky enough to ride it when I went in 1995.

Did you see the movie? Trust me, getting rid of Country Bears prior to might have been the smarter move. I really doubt the film would have gotten people interested in seeing the show...

ah, this still makes me sad. I was lucky enough to be there on the last day and got to Ride Toad one last time.

Disney went through a phase of a bit of Pooh overkill for a while there though didn't they?

maybe they saw how well the movie did. >_> Seriously, maybe they removed the rides in one park and kept them in another because they were more popular in the others. It's most likely more people were going on MTWD at Disneyland than at WDW. Same with the Country Bears. More at WDW, less at DL. It was just bad timing on closing it at the same time as the movie came out. Also, though I hate to say this to it's fans, but maybe MTWR wasn't popular. I mean, tell me how large an audience Mr. Toad has and then tell me how large an audience Pooh has. Much larger. If 1000 people want toad, and 1,000,000 people want Pooh, guess which crowd Disney's gonna listen to. It sucks, yeah, but sadly true.

They may have replaced the ride, but they never forgot their roots. If you pay close attention to the Pooh ride, there are still images of Mr. Toad scattered around.
