I drove down from New York with my dad. He flew back and I got to keep the car with me. Then I drove back up to NY by myself at the end of the CP.

I was lucky enough to be able to ship my car, so I just stuffed a whole lotta stuff in there- those bags that you can suck out the air from are great for sheets, comforters, towels, pillows, etc

I've never had a car with me on any of my CPs. However, for 3 of them my dad drove me down (which made it so much easier then the 1 time we flew down). I recommend driving if you can.

One of my friends had her car shipped down from Chicago. Then she just flew down. If it was cheap enough I'd probably do that since I liked having my own car, but I don't care for the drive there and back. (And I got two flat tires on the drive back )

Thanks!
I don't know if I'd be able to do the drive...it'd be SO long! Ah! & I wasn't planning on bringing my car. Maybe I'll be able to hire some movers or something. =P

I also wanted to ask about the different jobs for the CP participants. I was thinking I'd like to either do attractions or merchandising, but am having a trouble deciding which would be my #1 choice. I was also thinking food wouldn't be too bad, but I'm not sure.
What are some of the pros and cons of the different positions?

I have personally done merchandise, custodial, QSFB, and character attendant twice. The only role I would do again is attendant. It is a lot of fun, and I love getting to work in all 4 parks, with all the characters/shows. Some pros/cons for the other roles are:
Merchandise
*good role
*can get lots of extra hours if you want
*lots of interaction
*can work late hours at times

Custodial
*lots of guest interaction
*freedom
*sometimes the cleaning can be bad

QSFB
*it's easy to get lots of extra hours
*it can be really busy at times

What about entertainment? I think it'd be SO much fun to be a character, but you probably have to have some sort of acting or dancing background, right? Or is it possible to get a spot if you don't?

Does anyone have any input about working in attractions?

And, sorry, but whats QSFB? =P

You don't have to have a dance/theater background to be a performer. You just have to pass an audition.

QSFB= Quick-Service Food and Beverage (fast-food type food places). I worked in Casey's Corner at the MK.

Ooh okay thanks! =)

I was just looking on the website and it said that if you are in Merchandise you may have to prepare food and/or candy. Does this mean like when they make caramel apples or other desserts at the Confectionary?

If you're not planning on taking your car and also don't want to make the drive down to FL with someone else (which can be INSANELY long depending on where you're from), it is definitely totally possible to fly down and still be able to bring most of what you need with you. If you do fly, consider paying to check an extra bag- it's usually cheaper than having all that extra stuff shipped to you once you're down in Florida. As a past post said, vacuum bags are amazing, especially for flying. With two bags and a carry on, I was able to take my sheets, comforter, and towels with me, along with more clothes than I would have ever needed. The only thing you really can't take if you fly is a full-sized pillow. As to planning on not having a car, it was really never a big deal that I didn't have mine. If you don't like the busses, more than likely, you'll have a friend or roomie you can make trips to Walmart with.

Haha! Thanks so much! =) Those vaccuum bags sounds like they'll be super helpful! I'll have to look into them.

& thats great about the Confectionary being a part of merchandise. I kind of thought it would be considered food. Now I'm super excited!

Can you request to work in certain shops? Or at least in a specific area?

Yep, the Confectionary is part of merchandise (Main Street- I worked there one day).

You can ask. No guarantees though.

First of all the CP is probably the best thing I've done in my short life, and you'll have a blast doing it.

I drove my own car and packed it full of stuff, but I did have friends who flew down and packed everything they needed in suitcases, so that shouldn't be a problem.

I worked in attractions at two different places, so I'll give you pros and cons for each.

Spaceship Earth/Epcot
*Pros
-Epcot is a lot more laid back than Magic Kingdom, and the managers I unexperienced here were awesome
-SSE wasn't too demanding, but there was a lot of technical stuff to remember when working the terminals.

*Cons
-I didn't feel the cast member magic as much here
-Not really that exciting of an attraction
-not a great deal of guest interaction
-Working the post show games was a bore

Jungle Cruise/Magic Kingdom

*Pros
-The most fun attraction to work at bar none
-Great fellow cast members
-Total guest interaction

*Cons
-Much more demanding physically
-Some managers weren't my favorite, but you'll find that anywhere you work
-MK is crazy. Always.

ya for sure.... my dad and I were thinking about doing the drive (from AZ) but about a month before we decided that we were just crazy and there's no way.... and when you compared the cost of shipping to the cost of gas, food, hotel, it was just a little bit more to ship it. I was so glad that I had my car with me- it was definitely worth it.

Thanks!

It's possible, but a dance/acting background would benefit you greatly. If you're in a common height range, it will be the only thing that will get you hired. If you're in a range that they're in real need of, you can get hired if you simply know your right foot from your left.

SO true.... be careful not to overpack when it comes to clothes. Remember that you'll be wearing your costume 5/6/7 days a week, so you really don't need that many normal clothes. I had WAY too much as far as clothes go, and I never even touched half of them. Just took up a lotta room in my closet..

Haha. That'll be hard for me! I always pack pretty much my entire closet =P

& thanks for the Jungle Cruise info! I was thinking of requesting that if I decided to do attractions. But now I'm leaning more towards merchandise, maybe request the Confectionary.

& I just noticed that Photopass Photographer has been added to the list of roles on the DCP website! Thats pretty exciting! I might do that one as well.

So many choices!

What is the deal with the height requirements? I'm 5'7". Is that too tall to be a character? How about a dancer? I'm thinking about auditioning for one of those two, preferably a dancer, but will my height be an issue?

Just be aware that if you do work in the Confectionary, you work in all the shops on that side of Main Street (not just the Confectionary).

No, that is not too tall. Characters go up to 6'4 or so. There are no dancing roles for CPs (unless you get picked to be in a parade, and there is no guarantees for CPs being picked for anything).

No dancing?
Oh rats.
Oh well. A character would be fun too!
& its good to hear that I'm not too tall.
What about for a princess though? I've noticed that they always seem to be relatively short. =/
