Moving an attraction?

Hi everyone!

I was just reading some trivia and stumbled across something that got me thinking...

The book says that the 3D show Magic Journeys moved from Epcot to MK, and honestly I never thought they moved anything! I figured that once it's there, it's there and that's that.

I know a lot of people believe Monsters Inc Laugh Floor should have been put in Pixar place...do you think they will eventually move it to fit the theming? Is there anything else you think should be moved?

Which book? Carousel of Progress and It's a Small World were originally created for the 64 Worlds Fair. Both came to Disneyland and CoP moved to Magic Kingdom a few years later (any official timetables would be appreciated to back me up a little).

As for Monsters Inc... Unfortunately, it will probably stay in MK. :fork: :hurl: Especially after whatever it is they are doing at soudstage 1 opens.

Honestly I always thought they should move the Magic Carpets of Aladdin to Morocco.
Here's Why:
1. The Characters have a Meet and Greet there
2. Morocco is "Semi" themed to fit the ride
3. World Showcase could use another attraction
4. Children love "Spinner Riders" so a ride like this will entertain children who don't really enjoy Cultural films and the like of WS.
5. Magic Kindom already has two "Spinner Rides" with Astro Orbiter and the much loved Dumbo the Flying Elephant I think they could lose one.

BTW wasn't One Mans Dream orginally located in the Magic Kingdom not in Disney's Hollywood Studios, if so there is another attraction that was moved.

The Carousel of Progress was originally located in Disneyland then in 1975 it was relocated to the Magic Kingdom.

The "One Man's Dream" from the Magic Kingdom was a totally different attraction/film than the one in the Studios.

As for "moving" Magic Journeys, it was just a 3D film, so they just had to outfit the Fantasyland Theater with the 3D projection system in order to move it. Captain EO also moved from the Imagination pavilion to Fantasyland for a couple years. If they were to move HISTA anywhere else, it woudl require quite a bit of construction in the new location, due to the theater's motion-base.

There haven't been very many really-for-real "moved" attractions at WDW. But out at Disneyland, there have been a few moves, mostly having to do with the early-80's Fantasyland redo. (I know the Teacups and Dumbo were moved, and perhaps the Carousel, too). The Astrojets "moved" within Disneyland's Tomorrowland, but in actuality the current Jets are an entirely new ride mechanism.

Turtle Talk in Epcot moved within Living Seas during the Finding Nemo refurb. The original "tank window" is still hanging in the room where it used to be.

That's all that I can think of off the top of my head.

Good examples. Another example (in this case, of an attraction moving between two resorts), is Mickey Mouse Revue, an animatronic musical revue, which was in the same theatre Philharmagic now occupies. It closed in MK in 1980 and was relocated to Tokyo Disneyland. It opened with that park and played continuously since then, but is slated to be closed in a few months to be replaced by... Philharmagic, which is IMO in many ways it's spiritual successor. (At least this time they are building a new Philharmagic for TDL, rather than sending WDWs installation, like with Mickey Mouse Revue ;)

This was my favorite attraction on my first trip as a little kid and my first intro to Mickey and the characters and the classic songs from the show!

The book is The Walt Disney World Trivia Book by Louis Mongello, and its on pg 48 if you're curious.

Umm and I started this thread asking about Monster Inc Laugh Flood, guess that fell through..

It appears that the Carousel of Progress is currently the only Disney attraction to move as much as much as two times. Seems like everything else only moves once.

There has only been ONE Carousel of Progress.

It first premeried at the 1964-1965 New York World's Fair. Opened in April 1964 and closed in October 1965.

The sets were removed and brought to Disneyland were they opened in a new building with a new theater in July 1967 the show remained there until September 1973.

The show then moved to the Magic Kingdom, where it opened in January 1975, the same day as Space Mountain, and helped "complete" tomorrowland. Again, a new theater and building was constructed to house the attraction while the 1964 sets were moved from CA to FL and then changed in the shops for the 1975 version of the show.

Could they pull it off? Probably. But it would take a great deal of effort. And they would need something to replace MILF before they moved it anywheres. So I doubt its going to be going anywheres at this point. I hope im wrong though

Well MiL is just some cameras, projectors, screens and knick knacks, so it can be moved.

I can take some weeks to get it show ready but it is possible.

I always thought that Cranium Command would be a perfect fit where the TimeKeeper used to be. Instead they installed Monster's Inc Laugh Floor, whch does seem out of place in the MK.
