Mousefan1972's Christmas in Disney 2008

My family and I celebrated our second Christmas in WDW last week. We stayed at the Wilderness Lodge and were there from Dec. 17 until Dec. 26. It may take me some time to complete this TR so please bear with me. I will try to keep it heavy on the pics and light on the narration. :animwink:

So... Off we go! We left snowy/rainy Boston on Wednesday morning, Dec. 17. We took the ME shuttle to WL and arrived there around 1:30 p.m. At check in, I asked if there were any openings for us to be the flag family and was told yes! (more on that later) Our room was ready, so we went to room 5053 and checked it out. We had a courtyard view with bunk beds. We were on the inner courtyard, near the springs. Very pretty view. After dumping our carryons we had lunch at Roaring Fork, then jumped on the boat to MK. Crowds were light and we did many of our favorite rides: PotC, HM, BTMRR, Cinderella's Carousel, and IASW.

Two major milestones were reached on this trip: DS (age 3) reached 40 inches in height for the first time! :sohappy: No more baby swap for Test Track, BTMRR, Splash Mountain, Soarin' or ToT! And DD (age 5) reached 44 inches in height for the first time. (DH is 6'5"; the kids definitely inherited his height, not mine) :lookaroun

We had plans to meet up with Dot (Uponastar) and Vince (Merhearted) and after a few cell phone calls, found them in front of the castle. We watched Cinderella's Holiday Wish, then found a spot in Frontierland to watch Spectromagic! It was so great to meet Dot and her husband George, and to see Vince again. After the parade, we were beat from being up since 5 a.m., so we said our goodbyes and headed back to WL.

Looks like you had a great trip! Thanks for sharing. Love the pictures!

Toontown was supposed to open at 10, and we got there at 9:45 to find it not only already open, but the Fairies were up to a 45 minute wait!

Same thing happened to us. The Times Guide said it opened at 10:00, so we went to the back entrance by the train station at 9:40 and Tootown was in full swing...even the Barnstomer was already running. Very odd. On all of our previous trips they always opened ToonTown right at 10:00. I meant to ask a CM if they are doing things differently now, but I forgot.

Ok, time to finish this thing off! Our last full day at WDW was Christmas Day. DD awoke at 5:15 to see what Santa brought, but luckily DH told her it was too early and to go back to sleep. By 6:15 she was up, and DS woke up also and they tore through their gifts. Santa also left some jibbitz for their crocs and a pin each in their stockings. :animwink: We had a Princess breakfast ressie at Akershus at 8:30, so we showered and headed for the bus stop. Since Epcot opened at 9, it was nice to walk through an empty park and get some pics without any other people in them.

Our breakfast was very nice. We had eaten dinner there twice, but this was our first time trying the breakfast. Belle was in the lobby for a photo (which was included in the price, and it was only 1 TS credit) and then we saw Jasmine, Aurora, Mulan, and Mary Poppins in the dining room. DD did ask why Mary Poppins was there, since "she's not a princess!". :ROFLOL: Still, it was nice to meet her as she and Mulan were 2 characters we had never met before.

DS would have nothing to do with them. All the princesses, especially Mulan and Mary Poppins, were wonderfully in character with DD. After breakfast, we went right to Test Track and rode with about a 15 minute wait, the got FP's to ride again later. We saw Turtle Talk with Crush and rode Nemo, then went on Figment's ride. We saw the Dream Squad at the entrance and hoped we would win something, but no luck. The storytellers were starting around noon, so we went to WS and saw Canada's, France's, and the UK's. We had a Candelight Processional dinner ressie at Teppan Edo at 5:45 for the 8:15 show, so we spent the afternoon riding our favorites: SSE, Gran Fiesta Tour, and Maelstrom (not a fave but we still rode). We decided to bypass Soarin' this day because last year on Chrismtas, it was insane, even with FP's. Well, we were standing by the pin trading area when a woman approached us, said they were leaving for the day and offered us 4 FP's for Soarin'! :sohappy: We were very appreciative, and got to ride on Christmas Day after all. We then trudged back to Japan for dinner. The food was sooo good, but the wait (30 minutes past our ADR time) stunk, and it was a very long meal. After dinner, the kids were gassed, so we skipped the CP, and paid our earlier good fortune forward by giving another family our CP badges. :animwink: All in all, a very nice Christmas Day.

Our last day was Dec. 26, last Friday. Our ME pickup was 11:10 a.m for our 2 p.m. flight, so we spent the morning packing, having breakfast at Roaring Fork, and enjoying the Lodge one last time. The amount of people checking in was crazy. :dazzle: After 9 nights, we were happy to be heading home. And even happier that Boston was snow-free for our flight home.

Thank you all for reading my TR, I hope you enjoyed it. I will leave you with some random observations from our trip:

Crowds were heavy, but not unmanageable. If you want to experience Chrismtas in Disney, try to arrive the week before and leave right after. Crowds were much worse Dec. 26-31.

We had great luck with buses this trip. Even though WL shares with either the GF or FW, we never had longer than a 30 minute trip, including wait. The only truly stinky commute is to AK, because the bus goes to the GF, the Blizzard Beach, then AK. And lucky us, the one day we went to AK, the bus went to BB both to and from AK. :hammer:

Lots of guests wearing "1st Visit" pins. Also overheard lots of misinformed people: one example was a guy on his cell phone saying he couldn't get FP's for Pirates of the Caribbean b/c he couldn't find the machines. :lookaroun

Thanks again for reading!

OMG, I can't believe I forgot one last thing! DH and I became pin trading nuts on this trip. We are addicted! It is so fun to trade with the CM's. I had bought a bunch of pins on ebay for our kids to trade, and they ended up just wanting to buy the ones they liked, whereas DH and I enjoyed the actual trading aspect of it. We decided to focus on the cast lanyard "sets" and spent the trip completing about 5 different sets of pins. It is so fun, and a great way to chat with the CM's, which we always enjoy.

Ok, that is definitely it. Thanks again for reading!

Great TR Kristin! That was nice how you got the FP for Soarin, and then gave another family your CP passes. And I loved the Epcot pictures.:)

Toontown has been opening unofficially at 9:45 the past couple of months.

I know Mulan!
