Most Comparable to Wizarding World?

On top of that, the flagship ride utilizes technologies that Disney is just beginning to dabble in.

This is BS. The Kuka arm is similar to a branch off of the EMV which was first used in 95. The same, no, but the idea of adding thrills to a dark ride style ride is nothing new.

Is it a shame Disney hasn't topped itself in a while and let Universal do it? Yes! But a lot of what is at Potter isn't some sort of revelation in thematic design, it's just what Disney should have been doing and didn't. That's what the bigger news is IMHO.

The problem is that people keep saying that Uinversal creating amazing attractions is going to force Disney to step up their game, yet all Disney has done is raise prices while adding nothing new or innovative for years. What happened to healthy competition will benefit the Disney fan?

Believe me, the queue for Dragon Challenge blew me away until I started walking back into the caverns that were once elaborately themed for dueling dragons. And as for the unthemed coasters, you have a point there. With Disney, if it's a coaster, it's not going to look like one. It'll be a train spouting real steam as it comes into the station. That's the Disney difference.

Soooo ture about the coaster thing. or it's a space shuttle, or a limo.

I know its from page one and has been quoted a few times, but...

Barnstormer/Great Goofini
Primeval Whirl
California Screamin'
Goofy's Sky School (formerly Mulholland Madness)

and theres probably some I'm missing.

I agree that Dragon Challenge is poorly themed, but it's always been that way. Elaborate queue with no theming on the actual ride. While its really hard to theme such a huge coaster, it can be done - see Montu at Busch Gardens Tampa. You dive in and out of egyptian structures. They could have done something similar with Dueling Dragons and parts of the castle.

That's the exact date they intend to bring in Lucas so he can add some CG comic relief to Potter the prequel, The Phantom Wizard and a New Clone Hogwart Hope.
:ROFLOL: More realistically...prequels. And if Rowling gives us an account of the adventures of masters Moody, Padfoot, Wormtail, and Prongs as well as Lily Evans and Severus Snape...well...I'll be a happy man.

Ahem, excuse me, but I wish to disagree with the above statements. Mission:Space is one of the most realistic feeling rides in any of the parks. The ride is a complete rush, if you can handle it. Bringing a little 3D tech into this ride would make it unbelievable. And finally,
Horizons was a nice ride, but in fact was very, very similar to Spaceship Earth and didn't come close to the thrills you can get from Mission:Space.

3D technology to Mission Space would be incredible! I wouldn't be suprised if TDO did this.

I'm not sure what can be compred to Potter from WDW... wait I got it!! Somethinng that looks 100 years old right? Something with so much detail that MAKES it look that old right?

My guess is either the inside of the Haunted Mansion....or River Country...:lookaroun

That's pretty funny, but you may have hit on something...

I would have to agree that HM is probably the closest Disney can get to the details that Universal has given us. That is pretty sad, considering that lately (besides E:E) Disney seems to be shuttering heavily themed, complicated, in depth attractions for the more mundane one big special effect attraction.

If Universal can do it, we KNOW Disney is capable of wowing us again...it just seems to be a matter of the almighty dollar that slows them down.

There is still something to be said about the old sayings:
  • Don't rest upon your laurels.
  • You got to spend money to make money.
I'm actually happy that they are doing the FLE....while not a direct comparison to HP, it does show us that they still care.

I still feel confident that they will impress us again within a few years.

Their just isn't much more to the place.
Yet. Give it a bit.
And remember folks, WWoHP is not a park, it's a land. It should only really be compared to similar lands in other parks.

Likewise, I have a hard time believing that the new Little Mermaid attraction will even be remotely in the same league as Forbidden Journey.
Apples and oranges. Mermaid was never meant to be in Potter's league. It'll be a nice much needed D ticket for MK.

Good point. Right now the Forbidden Journey is definitely the king of the hill.
Yep. And there is nothing in Disney's immediate pipeline to challenge it.

Quoted for truth.
I'll drag out my favorite quote on the subject:
"Universal swings for the fence, Disney bunts."

That said, I'll give my opinion of the OP's question, based on US Disney parks....
Most comparable land? Adventureland and New Orleans Square at DL.
Asia in AK.

Most comparable ride? Hmmmm...think I'll go with Indy.

I know it isn't the same as Potter but the Tree of Life has a ridiculous amount of detail to it that you could spend a long time examining. You get the best glimpse of it while in line at It's Tough to be a Bug
