This is exactly where I was as well! I've gone so much in the past 2X years, and I was really thinking if I had ever noticed mosquitoes before.

FWIW, we were there the first week of April and didn't see many mosquitos. There were some. We asked in one of the shops if they sell bug spray. That store didn't and the person at the counter was kind enough to check the computer. Apparently none of the stores in MK sell bug spray. Not sure about the rest of property as we had some in the hotel room and made sure to bring it the rest of the trip.
When is the proper time to misquote?

My wife and I were there on Saturday and didn't have any issues. I've been a FL resident my entire life and this time of year gets horrible for mosquitos. Heck...even when I take my dog out at night I end up swatting away a few mosquitos; at WDW...nothing.
I don't know what they do, but it's great.
You're in the middle of a swamp in FL in the middle of summer...not expecting to see any kind of bugs is unrealistic.

Florida quite literally had no winter this year. Normally, a single freeze will eliminate a good deal of insect larva and that did not happen this year or the last. The simple fact that WDW is not swarming with these things at the moment is a testament to how well their insect control program works.
Oh the real stuff works just fine. The problem is so many people now have chemophobia and are using "all natural" products that are effective for about 15 minutes if at all.

As was I think quoted by someone earlier in the thread, this article explains the possible reasons for more mosquitoes this year or at this time. Sounds to me as if there is just an overabundance of nasty mosquito larvae, probably just too much for the actions WDW takes to cut the population down.

There were so many mosquitoes in the jungle cruise, I had to wrap my legs with a poncho. My son got five bites from that one ride. You could actually see them flying around the light on the boat. We didn't ride it again. As we walked around the corner by Pecos Bill's, there was a small group of people hunting mosquito spray. The cm told them she didn't think they sold it in the parks.
I had some 7% deet travel spray, but it didn't keep them away, even though we used it every hour or so. I finally went and got some 30% deet spray, and it worked. We didn't get any more bites.
My son's girlfriend had one light on her shoulder and bite her before I could kill it. We were getting on the launch at Epcot. We also saw a couple at the Haunted Mansion and at Animal Kingdom.
This is the first time we have ever seen mosquitoes in any of the parks.
All five of us got at least one bite. This has never happened before.
So, pregnant ladies and people with health issues please take repellent with you and use it.
Remember that the mosquitos that can carry zika prefer eating during the middle of the day unlike other mosquitoes which prefer early mornings and evenings.

I agree totally but you should expect a deluxe resort that you pay yearly dues to be a member of to not have ants crawling in the bed and armies of ants inside the sliding glass door.
Agreed....just tripped out for a second as we had never experienced them before...
We agree! Just surprised us as we don't recall EVER seeing or being bitten while down.....

Just got back last night and I have to agree, I did encounter a lot more mosquitoes than on past trips. They were especially bad around the marina at GF, but we got bit pretty badly in Epcot around the water a few nights. I always bring bug spray just in case, but this was the first time I've actually had to use it.
Also saw TONS of palmettoes around YC
... I know they're prevalent in FL but I'd been fortunate never to run into many of them until now!

Palmettoes? Aren't they trees (Palm Trees). Palmetto bugs (actual name is the American cockroach) are a cockroach common in the southern US. They are reddish brown in color and between 1-1.5 inches long making them one of the bigger cockroaches. They also have wings and can fly, but not very well.

Hmmm... I guess I never heard them referred as that. I always just knew them as Beetles. Learn something new.

There was one flying around in the queue at PP. I ran and squealed like an idiot. It would fly around our heads and land on the wall. Another one flew into my daughter arm. This was not a good trip for us and bugs this time. We've seen the cockroaches a lot, but never had them fly around us in a queue. There was one in our boat in The Land one time. I just about jumped into the water to get away from it. I know it's just a bug, but I don't want one on me. We live in Ga. so they are common around here. If I didn't keep the outside of our house sprayed, they would be in our house. We live in a wooded area close to a creek, so there are plenty of them.

Talk about a potential PR nightmare. If (God forbid) some guest gets the Zika virus from a WDW mosquito, and it was revealed that pest control was cut back...Iger better start packing his bags.
