I know here the mosquitoes are really bad after all the rain we have had. Anyone in the florida area to confirm how bad the mosquitoes will be in orlando with this big storm just moving out? I assume somewhere they sell mosquitoe spray at the parks? right.

I cannot confirm anything about the mosquito's but as far as bug spray, most hotels will have it at their general store. They may have it hidden behind the counter at the parks. They used to keep first aid stuff for sale behind the counter and out of sight at many of the stores. I am not sure why. The only reason I can think of is that it would clash with all the Mickey ears, etc. The first aid stations might have it too.

WDW controls the pests in the theme and water parks, and at the water resorts. You generally won't have any problems with mosquitos as long as you don't wander away from the paths and attractions.

Now those little green lizards are another story --

I have never had a mosquito problem at the World. I think in all the years I've been going I've only been bitten once, maybe twice by mosquitoes. Disney does a wonderful job of controlling them. You shouldn't have to worry about them.

I agree with everyone else regarding the mosquitos- never had a problem. However- we have had issues around WL with these biting flies. MIL couldn't use our awesome balcony for more than 1 minute without being bit. Unfortunately- they were like the flies at the Jersey shore- bug spray just doesn't work.........:brick:

Last time we went (Sept 2000), I don't remember mosquito's or anything like that, but they did have these swarms of bugs everywhere! I have no idea what they were, but we called them love bugs, because they were mating in the air and you had no choice but to walk though them because they were everywhere. They didn't bite, so that was a good thing - just kind of annoying to walk through.

In my 20 something trips to Disney at all times of the year in all types of weather I have never once seen a mosquito on property.

I'm assuming they do some serious pest control work regularly.

Wow thanks for all the quick responses! I bet your right about doing slot to control the bugs themselves.

If you're still a little hesitant on the big situation, they make sun screen now that contains insect repellent. I'd consider killing two birds with one stone and buying some of that before you leave for Florida.

speaking of mosquitoes ( oh boy i sure do hate them) this is totally off topic but what the heck. I was walking down a path in my woods yesterday and laying on the path was a dead bird and i just walked passed it and then mosquitoes started biting me, so now im freaked out that i might get west nile virus because the mosquitoes might of bite the bird then me, so im like all worried about it, so i do hate mosqutioes.

You know what's weird? I never realized it, but I have never gotten mosquito bites while in the WDW Parks, or at the resorts. But when I stay off property in Orange Lake, I get tons at the hotel. I guess it's true, Disney must do a good job of warding these off their property. Rain or not - I don't think you'll have major issues with mosquitos.

Sorry to go against the grain here, folks, but we had MAJOR problems with mosquitoes on our honeymoon at Animal Kingdom Lodge in 2003! The bus stops were horrendous and we got simply eaten alive. I suppose the vegetation at AKL led to the problem. We were there in July in very hot and mostly dry weather (just normal summer cloudbursts). So yes, Virginia...there are mosquitoes at WDW!

I've never had problems with mosquitoes, but I always use this:

http://www.badgerbalm.com/pc-21-2-anti-bug-balm.aspx

Not sure if it is the lack of mosquitoes or the use of the Badger balm. However, I have found the Badger balm to be helpful in the Pennsylvania wilderness when others are complaining of bites and I get NONE! Effective without all those scary chemicals and reasonably priced. Just a little dab will do and it smells pretty good too!

landscaping

If I remember correctly I've read somewhere that Disney's landscaping has certain plants that deter insects.

I can't remember having a problem with bites at Disney. South Carolina that's another deal!

I have never had much of a problem in the world with those nasty things. But at home its another story.

Now why would you have such a problem with your state bird :ROFLOL:.

I've never really had a problem with them, but my friend seems to always get bitten no matter where, WDW or anywhere.
