More Wrapped Buses

I guess many posters here would approve of putting a Pubix there near the TTC. I mean, it would be so convenient... it could be decorated like a Mickey's Publix!!!

I mean after all... The whole Disney bubble thing only applies to the hotels and amusement park. They just bought all that land to keep the sightlines...

Actually I think I would not care for pubix anywhere.

Just as long as they don't put a gas station or a McDonalds anywhere on property I'm ok.

Ah.. the "disney has been doing this for a long time before.." justification. You know, the same one that would justify every mistake as not a new one!

The Hess station was originally a car service center... an AMENITY. One done in a very constricted manner. The McDonalds is just another stupid move made by misguided management. The same management that is busy selling off the very property Disney worked to hard to collect.

Think for yourselfer
Once Walt died the plans for the original vision of EPCOT were put on hold and eventually cancelled altogether

pffftt

If the original version of epcot died, then how do you explain this?!?

An on property grocery store would indeed be AN AMENITY. I say bring on Mickey Publix! Maybe we can put one in front of the Chinese Theater. I think there is some free space opening up.

So after that let's get to your point. The building of Disneyland started with Walt not having enough money to build the park himself. This lead to him coming up with new methods of fundraising. He decided to create a show named Disneyland to help fund the construction of the park. This cross marketing lead to the broadcast of this show on the then-fledgling network of ABC. In return, the network agreed to help finance the park. For its first five years of operation, Disneyland was owned by Walt Disney Company but was owned jointly owned by Walt Disney Production, Walt Disney, Western Publishing and the ABC network. So most likely there would have been no Disneyland without cross marketing and advertisement. The same is true with each and every Disney Park.
All of that was done with a goal of building and opening the park. The partners and concession leases were bought out as quickly as possible. The trams in the parking lot weren't covered in ads for ABC shows or even Disney films. Disney billboards for the latest whatever along Harbor Blvd would have fit right in and there would be no competition if they lined World Drive. And it's not like the bus wraps are pioneering something new, so there must have been some reason it was not undertaken before when Disney was smaller, Walt Disney World made less money and it was all still a commercial enterprise.

Shocking how some people can't grasp the idea of managed 'practicality' when compromising your vision. They knew people would be traveling to WDW... the service center is was an amenity so people could have car issues addressed without having to really leave the bubble. It, like the buses themselves, are utility things you integrate into your experience in controlled ways because they exist out of practicality. You then work to ensure those utilities do not become negatives or detract from your main goals. So you do things like service management, cleanness, attention to detail, customer service, etc. Another example... safety spiels... they exist out of practicality and would 'break theme...' - so you aim to address these practical functions in a way that minimizes their disruption, and you do your best to try to make them seem not so out of place.

None of that train of thought green lights the idea of "hey, lets turn the vehicles into rolling billboards for our siblings products!"

It still is a car service center, and offers care repair, car rental etc. it has had a gas station for at least 30 years.Prior to Hess, Exxon was a major corporate sponsor and all gas stations on property were Exxon branded. How far do we have to go back to show that management has always done this, not just today's management, but the management of WDW during what many consider a time with much better show quality.

So predictable... How many resorts do you know that include a garage with their hotel? Contrast that with FOOD and SUNDRY shops that every hotel worth it's tail has included. You don't need a grocery store when you are staying at a decent resort.. including the ones Disney had built. But you'd be hard pressed to find a resort that would be able to handle your tire needs upon arrival. The Service Center was another comfort factor Disney incorporated into the early site. Car issue? Disney has got a security blanket for you there too... Now lets get back to the vacation kingdom of the world.

Uhh.. I wasn't saying anything negative about the Service Center. In fact, the opposite. But McDonalds on the other hand...
