More on the possible "Magic Kingdom" movie...

I think this is excellent news. I've enjoyed all of Favreau's films, he seems to "get" kid fantasy as well as action. I'm there!

Kingdom Keepers--for me, didn't do it. I'm a theme park nerd, of course, and not a snob when it comes to Young Adult literature, but I just really didn't like the concept, and wished it had been better executed.

Same here. We had a discussion here not long ago about it. The books capture the technical wizardry of the parks, but leave out the real magic and soul. I barely got through one of them.

I posted an article here yesterday about the Magic Kingdom movie, and I too hope it doesn't turn into another "Night at the Museum".

So pretty much this will be a carbon copy of "The Haunted Mansion" where they hire the flavor of the month male comedian with a lackluster script.

Eddie Murphy has not been flavor of the month since.... since maybe the 90's? 80's?

Please don't hire Sandler or Rogen, WDC

I like that except I'd have the little kid actually be Walt. I'd also have the main character in the film be played by Will Farrell, but that's just me....
Thanks! My only issue with having the kid be Walt was that it would make the protagonist his father Elias, and I figured hardcore fans would have guessed the twist a mile away as soon as that name popped up.

And Farrell might not be a bad choice. He showed pretty good dramatic chops in Stranger than Fiction.

Actually, I think Favreau is an EXCELLENT choice for this project, given his experience with both blockbusters (Iron Man 1 & 2) and his great past work on smartly-written, effects-heavy kid's fare like Zathura and Elf (the latter of which is a Christmas staple in our childless household :xmas:).

Personally, I wish they were filming THIS:

Why can't they just make a fictional universe?

Before each Disney film, you see Cinderella's castle with fireworks, a train that runs through it, and a pirate ship on the river in the distance. It's as if the Magic Kingdom were an actual... Magic Kingdom, and not at all some theme park in the real world.

Now, fit in the Tree of Life, and you have an exciting idea for a movie. How about Cinderella's honeymoon, except it ends up getting ruined by a villain, and she and Prince Charming fight the whole time as they travel through the fictional equivalent of the theme park worlds. And in the end it gets better.

A sort of happily? ever after kind of breaking the 4th wall into another stage sort of universe.

I think it taking place in the parks works two fold. a) It allows those who have never seen the parks, or who haven't been in ages to experience them and therefore b) it works as a big push for DisneyParks as a whole.

I wrote a draft of a screenplay based on Kingdom Keepers last year, and that's what I pushed in it the most, was the true magic of just being in a Disney park.

I think Disney is ignoring the Kingdom Keeper books for one reason, and that's how much of the behind the scenes stuff they discuss. I highly doubt Disney wants to produce a film who's climactic chase scene starts in the Utilidors. I think Ridley Pearson even stated that when he was working on the second book. He had tried to persuade Disney to produce a film, and they were very hesitant due to how much of the magic he gave away.

To which I say "Why did they let him write it that way in the first place?"

I personally love the books and would love a movie based on them. I do see the reasoning though because of all the behind the scenes stuff. When we were in the parade for band we went allowed to have cell phones or cameras out at all.we went even in the utilidors or anything that secretive. I have a hard time believing Disney would let a film crew back there. But I'll keep my fingers crossed!
