The Avengers monorail is a huge step, and I don't think people really quite understand its significance.

In my opinion, its the first step.

But Jimmy, Universal has a contract to keep the Marvel characters out of the parks...?

Well, to be honest, if Disney wants to end that contract, they have the financial means to do so, which apparently people don't want to see or understand. If Disney or not wants to spend the money, thats up to them.

But who says they have to put the characters in the parks? They just proved they don't have to, to get people to realize they have the characters.

And they could put the characters in or around the Boardwalk, Transportation and ticket center and Downtown Disney, which are high traffic, visible areas of the resort not considered in a theme park.

Iger said one of his goals was to increase the presense of Marvel characters around the Disney Parks, and in one fell swoop he did it with a monorail when people said it was not possible.

Could this be the start of something big?

How would this fit the theme of a beachside resort of yesteryear? Then again, ESPN really doesn't fit that theme either...

But yeah, I'm all for Marvel making a showing at *some* locations, as long as it doesn't wreck the ambience and atmosphere.

I've only been to Universal once but I remember Hulk having his own coaster and Captain America as a guy walking around, but they both looked different than there movie counterparts. Could this be a way of Disney exploiting how they could be portrayed on property?

If the way Disney managed to boss around Washington over intellectual property rights is anything to go by, I wouldn't put it beyond their legal team to try to appropriate ever increasing rights over Marvel. Where there's a will and infinite pockets, there's a legal right.

Who'd have thought in 1978 that Disney would succeed in their decades long project of strong-arming Washington into extending property rights on Mickey Mouse until the year 4150?

Bring on those Marvel men and women who will fight for justice. We need some Super Hero's who will enforce the no spitting in public rule and shut down Stitch. Zurg will finally meet his match. And someone must teach that ferocious Tigger to keep his hands to himself. :ROFLOL:

Apparently the pixie dust some members are snorting causes them to forget about legally binding contracts?

No, using movie likenesses does nothing to affect the fact that Universal owns the characters rights for as long as they want them.

And people, mostly "insiders" said we would NEVER see those characters on Disney World property, yet a monorail now zooms by the Magic Kingdom featuring them.

And Iam supposed to believe a contract will stop further developments?

I doubt Disney would risk taking this any farther, or it could result in bad PR and a messy legal battle. If Disney ever went ahead with something along the lines of "Breakfast with Iron Man at the Marvel Heroes Lounge in the Boardwalk Resort" :)hurl:), Universal would be forced to take some kind of action.

Universal has no interest in giving up the Marvel rights, and, despite Jimmy's confidence in the company's legal team, Disney can't just wrest control away from Universal. A contract is a contract.

If anything Marvel ever comes to a Disney park, it will not be in Florida.

A bad PR battle? Who cares about that. As a stock holder I demand the use of company assets to their fullest, thats the PR battle they don't want.

As I stated time and time again, if you really think Disney is going to sit on their assets and let someone else use them without pushing back, it just does not make good business sense. Or cents. Disney fired the first salvo and Universal is taking it on the chin and wimpering away like a spoiled child, I feel its just a matter of time, contract or not.

Jimmy Thick-Can they replace Spider-Man with the wimpy red headed kid from Harry Potter on that ride?

I said yes because everything has a price nowadays and Disney execs have their heart set on Marvel. That being said I hate the idea of marvel in their parks. It isn't Disney and neither is that crappy monorail wrap.
