I saw this in an article on MousePlanet:

So What's Next?

While guests are looking over the fence to the New Fantasyland addition coming on board, the next bit of magic may be right in the palm of their hand. Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom is the working title (and the trademark title held since November of 2010) for what is the Magic Kingdom's new interactive experience. Imagine an interactive adventure of going through the Magic Kingdom seeking out clues and seeing the magic come to life. Here are just a few of the possibilities:

Imagine as you play by Pirates of the Caribbean cannon start shooting from the fortress. Photo by J. Jeff Kober.

What if searching near the Golden Oak Outpost resulted in actually finding…gold! Photo by J. Jeff Kober.

In Liberty Square, the lanterns hanging in the window suggesting "one if by land and two if by sea" may have a whole new meaning as you unlock clues. Photo by J. Jeff Kober.

In the future, this robot may have important news to unlocking clues. Photo by J. Jeff Kober.

Of course, those are just imaginations on my part. The real clues and events have not yet been revealed, And it's unclear whether your adventure will go throughout the Magic Kingdom, or like the Epcot experience, you will be designated to a certain land like Frontierland or Tomorrowland. It's also uncertain what device will be used to navigate through the experience. What is certain that it will not be a phone, nor will it be Pal Mickey. It will be a device unlike those.

While nothing has been implemented into the park, the development of the props and activities are well underway. It's expected that guests will be able to experience Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom before they experience the new Fantasyland addition.

Also, a very exciting interactive game will soon be introduced at Disney's Animal Kingdom. I've been sworn to secrecy as to who the host character is on this experience. But if you think about who it might be, it will be obvious that this is the perfect host for such an experience at a park that seeks adventure. There are a lot of possibilities with this game. And there's a lot of territory and theming yet to cover.

A new interactive game is on the up and up for Disney's Animal Kingdom. Photo by J. Jeff Kober.

What about Disney's Hollywood Studios? It's uncertain whether any of this will occur at the Studios, Clearly there could be some great themes played out. Imagine a "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" film noir type of experience. But the park suffers from a smaller foot print and moving a massive number of people throughout looking for clues in different directions is a little trickier.

Imagine if you joined Eddie Valiant in a "whodunnit?" caper. Imagineers are not apparently working on a Studio experience, but it could be a fantastic one if it happened. Photo by J. Jeff Kober.

But if you want to see this technology come alive sooner, book your next vacation to Hawaii, not Florida. Imagineering has been putting in long days trying to get the interactive systems up and running in time from the opening of Disney's first property on the Islands. The Disney Vacation Club Aulani Resort & Spa will be using a higher grade pad (but not an iPad) for their interactive activities. They can do that because there's a more limited flow through the hotel compared to the parks. Also, they can use a higher tech device because they have everyone's credit card on file at the front desk.

The lobby and public areas of Disney's Aulani Resort will include a host of interactive features for guests. Image © Disney.

And when the Imagineers get done with that, they have to head over to Germany to ready the Disney Fantasy for its high tech activities.
And what about Epcot? It's going to be rebooted, with Kim Possible herself and the "Kimmunicator" phones literally getting the boot. The implementation of the new system will more likely happen after the Magic Kingdom and Disney's Animal Kingdom get their systems in. But it is being planned. Management is very pleased with the number of people who continue to participate in the Kim Possible experience. And that's why they want to continue the experience at Epcot, but with a character that has a more permanent place in the Disney family.

And why are they doing this? There are two chief complaints at Disney's parks: The crowds are too large and the lines for the rides are too long. This set of initiatives occupies the attention of a lot of guests not only in the queue, but in wandering throughout the park, thus creating a higher capacity for more guests. Think of it as similar to having another attraction placed in the park. But there's no having to build a new building. And the activities do not interfere with attractions, entertainment, shops and restaurants. So it's a win/win for everyone. And while no one is calling it a virtual babysitter, you can be assured that in a very entertaining way, it's occupying your attention and perhaps even creating a more magical experience. And magic, high tech or otherwise, is what Disney is all about.

extremely surprised they did not do this with HP, But happy disney is doing it first!!!
being that the name is sorcerers of the MK, they will prob use wands.(sort of like Magic Quest)

also for epcot, Figment would make a great host character( he is original character for epcot, he has a great imagination(limitless possibilities for effects/stories within the park), he is mischievous (well how he is in the current ride, and increased popularity could lead to an over hall of the ride !!!!

If it happens, I love it, especially if the "adventure" host in DAK turns out to be Hathaway Browne, Samantha Sterling, or any of our other old friends.

I believe it was planned at one point (with your wand), but it was cut.

I'm sure someone will be along shortly to remind us that HP doesn't need it.

Seems like it is hinted at more of an expansion of Kim Possible to the other parks (the tech, not KP herself).

I think at Animal Kingdom especially this would be welcome.

This would be so incredible if it was to come to be. Our whole family LOVED the Kim Possible Adventure a few years ago when we were in Epcot.

Judging from all the kids at Epcot World Showcase carrying around those Kimmunicators, the Kim Possible Adventure seems to be a hit. So, why not expand it to the other parks.

Seems like a great idea! I think Phenias and Ferb would be great characters to use as the hosts. They could go on a search for Perry, and along the way run into Dr Doofenshmirtz and some of his wacky plans to destroy the park.

Hate to burst your bubble, but there are very strong hints in the article that the AK experience will be based on Up. It's actually kinda genius, it fits AK's theme perfectly, the device could be Russel's GPS that he dropped out the window, and as you complete tasks you could earn virtual Wilderness Explorer badges.

As for MK, I doubt they would do wands. They don't want to seem like they're copying Potter (no matter how much better they implement it), and I think they would also want some sort of screen to give clues, solve puzzles, etc. What would be a good idea I feel would be a small magic mirror (like the one Beast gives Belle).

I think P&F would be a good fit for DHS... I've always thought that!

I wonder who the character for DAK is going to be... and for that matter who will they change out KP for at Epcot?

thats a good plan too i would love that, it has a great story:D, but what it said it seems like they are gunna add a more permanent character( i know figment does not seem too long lasting but he is still in epcot today, and he is a more permanent member of the disney family, not saying P&F are not, just saying in about 10 years when they don't play episodes of P&F of disney channel, they will have to change it again, just like they have to do with KP)

It's a clever idea, but my excitement about it is minimal, since it would most certainly be geared for children. Although, I will admit, a group of us thought Kim Possible was quite the adventure after a couple margaritas. :)

awesome idea for UP it would be a great fit, love the GPS idea !!!!!
i was thinking the same thing about the wands( they would not want to copy HP) but what else could they use, a mirror sounds good but hard to develop a story around it(dont think it will be durable, even if it is made out of a thick plastic instead of glass, noticed how they used big clunky phones for KP, and not thin ones). the article sounds like they want the kids to be more interactive with "making magic happen" so i dont think they would have people pressing a button ( like in KP) so what else could they use to make the magic happen( should have a good story/more interactive for kids)

I'm not one of those that dislikes the NextGen queues, but THIS is what I was hoping for from NextGen. A truly new experience in the parks.

Tip of the iceberg. Much more could be done. How far will they take it?

i like the idea of P&F in DHS,I like how we are getting a M&G someone said(idk where) that disney is holding off on P&F cuz they dont know how long there popularity would last. But if they wanted to have a quick attraction( building time) by integrating P&F into the park they could make a short term attraction replacing KP, using Perry and Doofenshmirtz ( it would be fairly easy, same concept of KP ) but I dont think that what the article was hinting at ( think they are going for a long term Attraction/Characters to replace KP)

they could integrate this technology so they could be used, not only while walking around the park, but while you are waiting in the queue. it would definitely be more entertaining, interactive and immersive

I agree 100% that Phineas and Ferb would make a great addition to DHS if they get this new idea up and running. They are the perfect fit and are extremely popular (even though Disney does nothing to promote the show). If they want to use the characters in the park they better get on the ball, I don't want this show to end up like KP where they premier a new idea in the parks 4 years after the show was canceled.

This (well parts of it) has been out for a while, even though Disney hasn't announced it.

Sorcerors of MK is just another aspect of what started with Pal Mickey and Kim Possible and is all part of NEXTGEN.

I actually heard that DAK's would get its experience first ... and it will use the UP characters.

None of these things are bad. I enjoy Possible a lot, for what it is. At the same time, no one is going to tell me that these things are better than real attractions ... most people (kids included) would rather go on an adventure like HPatFJ at IOA than play interactive games because they can do that at home.

As far as interactive queue experiences go, after checking out how Haunted Mansion and Winnie the Pooh turned out as well as Space Mountain and Soarin' to a lesser extent, here is my wish list of enhanced attraction queues in no particular order:

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad: Imagine walking through the old mine shafts of Tumbleweed and discovering some of the back story behind why the runaway mine train has taken over the town. I can see some cool interactive aspects coming in an updated mine queue reconfigured for better guest flow as well as including interactivity on the stand by side.

Pirates of the Caribbean: You walk into an old Spanish fort under siege by pirates. Fire cannons from the walls, protect your treasure and be on the lookout for Captain Jack Sparrow and his band of pirates as you get ready to set sail on your own.

Star Tours: The Adventures Continue: Obviously we don't know what the actual Star Tours 2 queue is gonna look like, but I'd love to see interactive elements like a trip planner across the galaxy, interactive games where guests can track down their luggage and get a glimpse at some of the possible destinations your Starspeeder 1000 may take you.

Toy Story Midway Mania: TSMM does have a lot to look at in it's queue, but I'd like to see it expanded further to add in some new interactive elements that allow guests to feel like they have entered the toy world.

Expedition: Everest: As you approach the beginning to your expedition, you enter a small town located at the base of the mountain. Inside, you will encounter activities to get you ready for your journey including more about the beast who may (or currently doesn't) reside there.

These are just a handfull of ideas. I hope to see more interactive queue experiences coming throughout all four parks.

Something involving aerial and a hot tub perhaps

:ROFLOL:

I really liked that idea about the magic mirrors posted earlier for the MK one, it would prevent having to press buttons seeing as its a mirror. If it were me i would use a system of magnetics to activate the "clues" or the images shown on the mirror with a cool transition effect maybe working into a "getting warmer" as you get closer within the magnetic field radius. Lots of potential i like what has been going on lately and im sure it will be amazing when complete.
