More "Evidence:" Timekeeper to Monsters, Inc.

I know there has been much speculation about what's in store for Timekeeper's space (particularly after Steve's February 14 posting about its permanent closing). Screamscape is now entering the rumor arena:

"The latest rumor however was for a Monster’s Inc. themed attraction that might attempt to use some of the projection technology used in Turtle Talk with Crush. With the new Monster’s Inc. ride open at California Adventure seeming to be a hit, this certainly is possible if they deem that the Monsters Inc theme fits into Tomorrowland instead of the Studios. With Tomorrowland quickly becoming the new SciFi themed Fantasyland (Buzz Lightyear, Stitch’s Great Escape) I can see Monsters fitting in."

Excellent! I think a Monsters Inc. ride would fit in great there. I know it is not popular with most people here on this website, but my kids love all the pixar movies. And I know that I spent a ton at the Finding Nemo shop at the living seas and I was not the only parent there. I see nothing wrong with Disney putting something popular in a space that was hardly ever open.

I don't see how Monsters Inc fits into SciFi... Everything except CoP and Indy Speedway deal with space... Stitch, Buzz, Space Mountain and TTA to some extent, Astro Orbitor, Galaxy Theater.... Names of the shops and food places, other than Noodle Terrace (how that fits into a Tomorrowland theme I don't know).... Timekeeper fit in because it did deal with time travel... Plus, wasn't the building Timekeeper was in considered an interplanetary visiting center? I cannot see how MI fits that...

And if Monsters Inc does come to Tomorrowland, they are going to make the same type of attraction as Turtle Talk?? Sounds lame to me...

I agree entirely. I think a Monsters, Inc. attraction is much needed at WDW, but I think something along the lines of DCA's new attraction would be hugely popular at Studios, a park now somewhat lacking on ride-based attractions. It really doesn't fit with TL or (even worse) Epcot as rumored before.

They really need to get back to the theme of TL, especially since the Buck Rogers sci-fi approach should be the easiest one to work with.

I'd love to see a larger scale Monsters Inc attraction in the soundstages used for Who Wants to Be A Millionare Play It and the old Backstage Pass attraction. That is a ton of space to make one heck of an E ticket dark ride. But something along the lines of the DCA version wouldn't be bad either. If it would fit in the TK spot, then I would be all for it. The DCA ride seems to be pretty popular and most think it is a nice, quality attraction.

I really would like to see monsters Inc in UOE in epcot rather than this but its better than having an attraction that is never open.

Monsters Inc belongs in MGM as a dark ride, or even a coaster.. Not in TL or Epcot... But the problem also is that the article states Monsters Inc in TL will not even be a ride.. it would be the same kind of show as Turtle Talk.. Talk about doing things cheap and cloning attractions???

Wasn't it said that Disney wouldn't put the Indy ride in WDW because that and Dinosaur share the same track layout, only different themes? Well Wouldn't this hold true too for Monsters Inc and Turtle Talk? Sounds like the same attraction different theme... Now, a ride based on Star Wars, taking you to the planets and interacting with the characters would be cool. and they can scrap Star Tours in MGM, open that space up along with the Indy stunt show next door and build one huge e-ticket monsters inc ride there, or the indy ride and put Monsters Inc where Moma Melrose is, since thhe rumor is that restaurant is going to be shut down soon, or put it in Sounds Dangerous, or even in the sound stages where Millionaire is

Along that same train of thought - If the choice is between Monsters Inc in the TK building with new technology or a Monsters "hover-bumper car" in a gutted COP......I'll take the TK option please.

How'bout they just leave Tomorrowland alone for now? It's not hurting so bad that they need to rethink the land's theme. I mean come on, they get rid of AE now want to put in M.Inc? Why not just dress me up in a baby bonnet and give me a milk bottle at the entrance too.:brick:

Other than that putting a Pixar ride in there because they are popular would be a very bad choice. Disney should create something new for the Timekeeper slot, not Bolt on a currently popular character (I.e. Stitch just accross, TLS Epcot, the million and one rumours about All Pixar related rides) to an exciting concept.

Maybe its just me, but i dont see the Pixar characters as Disney, they maybe in Partnership with Disney (Ok now owned by Disney) but they all look and feel so un Disney like that no matter how much I may like them, they will never be true Disney icons.

If there was a ride featuring a Disney created character next to a Pixar created character I would always choose the Disney ride, and i don't think im alone on that.

Not sure where all this Monster's Inc. talk is coming from. I haven't heard anything to lead me to believe that MI is coming to MK at all.

Timekeeper is not some huge space for a ride if I recall. It would have to be a movie or something else that doesn't take up a whole lot of space. Maybe a nice big anti gravity rubber room for the kiddies. :animwink: Like a futuristic ball crawl ,without the balls of course. I hear unsightly things can end up in with those balls.

It is interesting when we talk about "true Disney icons" and "popular characters" with movie tie-ins. If you examine the history of of DL and Walt Disney, popular characters and movie tie-ins were always present - they just evolved into "classics." Attractions and rides at DL and WDW are based upon Cinderella, Peter Pan, Snow White, Alice in Wonderland, even Song of the South. These attractions are what we think of as "true Disney icons," yet they, too, were created because of a Disney movie or series of shorts.

As to the "Pixar characters [aren't] Disney" argument, how do we feel about Winnie the Pooh? Certainly seems like a "Disney classic;" however, he was "acquired" much like the Pixar characters are now. The same goes with Mr. Toad (who still has an attraction at DL).

The point is, I think we need to keep an open mind about characters and attractions and the evolution of theme park offerings in the 21st century. History has a way of repeating itself and what now appear only to be "Pixar characters" today may very well end up to be "Disney classics" in the future.
