On the flip side, if they are doing something with Muppets and HOP... They really should have made the annoucement before yesterday.

Would be bad optics for sure... especially given that they were seemingly starting to gain back some favor with their more right leaning clientele (who had been quite strongly anti-Disney for a nice little while)

It was two hours of the filmmakers pointing and laughing at how stupid the Muppets are. And the Muppets are not supposed to be stupid.
I really like Most Wanted, but in order for that premise to work the audience has to buy that none of the Muppets (except Animal & Walter) suspect anything wrong with Kermit. So it did make them much more oblivious than they have been in the past. I totally see how that may not work for everyone, but I don't think it is solely to blame for the current state of the franchise.

Exactly! The Muppets, except for Kermit, Animal, and Walter, are turned into hive-minded morons for the sole purpose of doing that stupid "CHARACTER A steals CHARACTER B's identity and despite how obvious it is that it's not CHARACTER B everyone falls for it because they're suddenly idiots" cliche. I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of people decided not to see the film as soon as they found out the movie was about that cliche (although being up against Divergent clearly didn't help either).

It kind of is. It scared Disney away from doing more theatrical Muppet movies, and instead of basically being a new Muppet Show the ABC series (which I did like in spite of its flaws) was very clearly made the way it was to cash in on the success of other "mockumentary" shows like Modern Family and Parks and Recreation. People misunderstood the show (which we were honestly lucky to get at all), assumed that it was going to be a televised Avenue Q with actual Muppet characters, and didn't watch it, resulting in it getting cancelled. Then they pinned the blame on Steve Whitmire and had him blacklisted, and then it's been a series of ups and downs.

The live shows were great, and then we got the phenomenally lousy Muppets Now. Then we got Muppets Haunted Mansion, which was good. Then we got nothing. Then we got the Electric Mayhem show, which was great when it was focusing on the Electric Mayhem but spent way too much time on the boring human characters. But despite how much everyone loved the show, Disney canned it after one season and now we have... nothing! I don't think a single new Muppets production has been announced since.

You know a sure fire way to revitalize the Muppets? Bring Brian Henson in to direct a new movie.

Shull is out here posting about Muppetvision doom… Is he just engagement baiting or is there any truth to this?

CRAP! This X post could one of three things -
1. A fake post to troll folks.
2. "Negative rooting" , saying what you don't want to happen so the Gods will make happen what you really want.
3. The truth. It does make sense Disney would sneak the announcement of this awful, stupid crap move during this Brasil event instead of stateside to try to hide it.

I hope its fake news.

If they take out Muppets, they need to announce their AC plans. Ideally they would flip their order for capacity reasons, but I realize their scales are hugely different.

I'll get my popcorn ready just in case things go south for MV3D.

I think outside some specific circles (like here) the blowback from closing Muppets will be rather small. Just like removing GMR there will be a lot of concerned diehard park fans, it'll generate some noise on discussion boards, but the vast majority of park visitors will be completely oblivious to it, and just wont care. Given it's Muppets, there will be some small news stories, the morning shows will mention it in passing but will couple it with a message of "Disney is bringing in an exciting attraction featuring Monsters Inc which we all know and love". Disney will do some sort media thing to honor the Muppets or Jim Henson's legacy to placate the fandom, and give the illusion they care about them and the property, and then quickly pivot to fluff pieces showing construction updates with attractive people in hardhats building ground.

Conversations will quickly move to how its progressing, and repeat park visitors will say something like "oh yeah, there used to be some sort of Muppets thing here." Similar to how people discuss Dreamflight and the old Norway ride. This isn't IASM, it's not a cultural icon.

Edit: I was going to change "will be" to "would be" but the more I thought about it, I'm leaving it. Muppets is on borrowed time, if it's not now, it's soon. They've tried several things to revive the IP and results were not promising, and they've tried to invest in this area of the park only to see it still struggle. Something will happen here, this park is too landlocked for them to not use the space more productively. Sorry to Muppet fans, I don't mean to be cold, just speaking the truth from a business perspective.

I hate that this is right. We know that it’s the last thing Henson ever did, but most guests don’t know or don’t care. Our best hope is that a version of the show ends up on D+.
