Monorail to Wilderness Lodge

When looking at the map of Disney the monorail seems to go kind of close to the Wilderness Lodge. Since the Wilderness Lodge is a deluxe resort and in the MK area would it really cost that much to just add it to the monorail loop? It seems to me that only a short amount of track would be needed. Any reason why not?

WL was supposed to go on 7 Seas Lagoon just between TTC and the Contemporary, but it was deemed the land was not stable.

And it would cost alot more than you think to add it to the loop, re design the current layout, redirect the EPCOT loop since it would be in the way.

And personally I like WL not being on the loop...keeps the price ALOT lower than the other MK resorts.

I remember watching them clear the land for the WL on one trip and hoping it would be on the monorail, but to tell you the truth I like the fact that it isn't.
I love the boat ride to the MK and if I want to use the monorail I just take a launch to the Contemporary and hit it from there.

Acording to my training at WDW many years ago....Originally, the Wilderness Lodge was to be called Wilderness Junction. Apparently it was to be on the monorail or there was to be a spur running to the lodge. I was told that the monorail running to a Lodge would ruin the theme of the resort. We were also told that the WL was originally intended to be a moderate resort, but during the design stage things just kept getting bigger and bigger.

I agree i like it not being on the rail. This way you can take a nice boat ride and get on at 2 different locations and it keeps the per night cost down.

Never heard about a monorail, nor seen route plans to indicate this particular expansion, but a steam train, linking into a revived FW railroad, was part of the plans for the first draft of Wilderness Lodge once it had moved on from Cypress Point.

To add the resort to the current monorail would be expensive, require massive engineering, and either extend the express line (and make it non-express) or really extend the resort line. Not to mention throw the timetables to pot.

Nope, The Venetian was to have been built between the TTC and Contemporary. Budget cuts and the oil crisis indefiinitely postponed its constructiion. In the early 90's, a different resort, the Mediterrannean, was to be built. A siinkhole killed these plans.

Cypress Point was a phase one hotel also postponed. It found new life as the Wilderness Lodge. Cypress Point was aalways to be located on Bay Lake, not Seven Seas Lagoon.

I understand everyone saying that a monorial wouldn't fit in with the theming of WL but how does it fit in with the theming of the Poly?

Exactly. Not that it will ever happen, but if it works for the Polynesian, it would work for the Wilderness Lodge. If the roads running to and near the place don't overly detract from the secluded feeling, neither would a monorail beam.

in the original plans for the resort, yes, the Venetian was to be put there.

Never heard of Cypress Point though and I don't see any references to it in any literature I have. Phase One Hotels Poly, Asian, Contemporary and Venitian. With later an idea of a Persian resort north of Contemporary.

That would be awesome! It would be in keeping with the resort and would add another, more conveinent form of transportation. If they connected it to TTC, then there'd be 3 ways to get to MK, 2 to Epcot, and then still just the 1 way to get to DHS and DAK...the buses...which by the way, I was not impressed with from the FWL, but were great from Coronada Springs.

Cypress Point existed alright. There are a few models and pieces of concept art online, at least there were at one time. Just look it up.

Agreed. The monorail runs through the Grand Californian at Disneyland (built with a similar look and feel as the WL) and it doesn't take away from it at all.

I like that its a deluxe at a lower price point, like the AKL, because it isn't on the monorail line. I can certainly deal with the boat ride or bus ride.
