Monorail pink

Off-pink or coral was having lots of problems today. We rode it through five stops. It pulled in and had to back up every stop. Once by almost 1/3 a car length.

The door on one of the center trains kept staying open as well. A CM asked me how many times it took to close at the previous station before slamming it closed. Seems to have been an ongoing problem through the night.

They should name them after characters. Like the Epcot monorails be Figment and Dreamfinder, while the Magic Kingdom monorails be Mickey, Donald, etc. I don't know but its better than coral...

Constantly, all day, we are asked about the accident. And the "sympathy factor" seems to have worn off of the guests. "Were you the one that rammed the trains together?" "Were you friends with the guy that killed himself?" are examples of two questions I've heard in the last 3 days alone, not to mention the countless "is it because of the accident" when we turn down front cab riders. So yes, many people know and bring up the accident.

Are you in Monorails? You seem to know more about the inner workings than I do...apparantely. or maybe I just imagined the two very emotional meetings on the new train colors.

I agree. I get asked too, and I'm a partner in Watercraft. Remember folks, when the trains go down(not referring to the accident), we're still free floating out there :ROFLOL:

Many many people know about the accident. It was on CNN for crying out loud.

Changing the colors is a really stupid idea, and I think ultimately they will keep them both the same. Most people don't even know about the accident and only very few of the ones that do know the colors involved. If they do decide to change them they certainly won't be looking for advice from the monorail pilots. I know that they were looking for input from castmembers but I think this was just to give people something to do.

You would understand much more if you worked on the system.

A lot of people seem to know a lot about our system that don't even work there and have either inaccurate or outdated information. MANY guests know about it and the colors involved. It is a delicate topic that some people are not offering enough respect for.

I personally would like a change in color just because to be honest it was a little unnerving the first time we rode on our trip a few wks ago and the thought to ask to ride up front never entered my mind because the accident was a tragedy and this was the monorail's co-worker who was injured and died and I'm sure is still fresh on their minds

It's also something that should be done, even if the general public does not know about it.

Many companies have memorials or ways of remembering employees that died while either at work, or serving in the military.

If a CM died in a backstage area while on the job, and the public was not that aware of it, I would not be suprised if there was some sort of rememberance to the CM.

This was a large accident, right out on stage and all over the news. Retiring the colors of the trains involved is a very simple and low cost tribute to the pilots that were involved. Having the current pilots involved in choosing the new colors is an excellent move by Disney. Aside from being the right thing to do, if done correctly, it can also help to bring closure to a lot of CM's that must still be feeling horrible about the accident.

I would like to speak for the general public and express my apology to all the MPs working on the Monorail systems. I tried my best to do my part and stay away from talking to the Pilots while I was there in August (and I am a talker). I asked no questions about the incident to the pilots or the cast members working around the trains during my stay out of respect for the MPs and CMs privacy. Again, I apologies for the rest of the public that did not respect your situation. I hope that others, fans, general audience, past CMS can also do the same.

Monorail LED
Scrolling patterns and text? (They have similar panels on jointed busses up here)

Wait nevermind - I can see marketing rubbing their hands together and drooling.

Yes and changing the colors will only perpetuate this issue. Many guests that did know about the accident forget about it and then when there told they cant ride in the front thats when you get the "oh yeah because of the accident right". If they change the colors of the monorail it will create a similar situation, "thats a strange colored monorail I'v never seen before, Oh that must be the one that kid died in". Ultimately the best solutions for getting things back to normal and putting this in the past is to return everything from the guest standpoint back to the way it was before the accident, open the front cabs back up and return pink and purple to service as they were.

Are you in Monorails? You seem to know more about the inner workings than I do...apparantely. or maybe I just imagined the two very emotional meetings on the new train colors.

Like I said before I know these meetings have taken place, but I also know enough about the inner workings of monorails and Disney that they will not make this decision with the help of the monorail cast members. The meetings were completely meaningless if anything they probably had them just to make the cast members feel like they were doing something, it wouldn't be the first time.

Changing colors is neither cure nor prevention...

... yet I can't dismiss the psychological factor of seeing a monorail identifiable by color with an accident. What bothers me, and perhaps I'm being premature or I'm out of synch, is the lack of communication from Disney on what they're doing to make sure this doesn't happen again. They forget that while we're guests, we're also the parents of future cast members and as of now I would not let any of my four children operate a monorail knowing they're dependent on deficient safety system.

With all due respect to the deceased, his friends and family, and the monorail operators of today and the future, we need to change the conversation from what happened to what's being done to prevent it from happening again.

As for colors how about Monorail White and Monorail Clear (although I do like the plaid and LED ideas).

To be honest, this is not at all for a warm fuzzy feeling for the Guests, but more for the minds of the pilots. Trust me, this is still an extremely raw event to us and the wounds are opened every day by some rude Guest. I personally would not feel strange saying "Purple, by" again, but I know other pilots would not be able to bring themselves to do it.

And to say that the meetings we had are "completely meaningless" and just "giving us something to do" is, in my mind, rude.
