what happened was a power thing that allows power to flow freely was fried. In order to replace it, the entire MK monorail system had to be shut down. When CMs saw smoke coming out of a console on the platform, they shut down the beam, which was the very smart thing to do.

A monorail did not catch on fire. It was a part that you wouldn't know was going bad until it was too late. That is my understanding.

I'm neutral as to weather or not they change the train colors. I can see both sides to the argument. But if they do decide to change the colors, I would like to see train 11/12 become pearl like was said earlier. It's hard to pick out "new" colors because they use the colors for identification - and they have to be unique enough so the trains can be differentiated from each other a distance away, which is probably why they just don't simply number them. The pilots use the color stripes to see which train is ahead/behind of them and what train is coming in their direction. A simple running number can't serve the purpose of a color stripe.

I don't think that WDW needs new trains, they just need more. With the capacity of the system today, there are 10 trains in service doing the work of 14 or even 16 trains. They don't have enough time in the shop. Kudos to the monorail pilots & maintenance CM's for their hard work to keep the system running.

Yeah I think thats going to be the way to go. Fully automated system, Automated platform doors and track switches, 4 car trains that combine to make 8 car trains at peak times. I think I would like to see them use that style but keep the learjet nose and use the seattle style walkthrough design to make the end cabs open and available. I doubt we would be lucky enough to get that logo on the skirt but I like it!
Like was said before, walkthrough trains at WDW probably won't happen. When you're inside the monorail where the ends of the cars slope up, there are large cement truck type tires there. Most of the space behind the skirts in between the cars are used for mechanical parts.

While the technology is out there (and has been for some time) to fully automate a monorail system...too much of a liability there if you ask me. For one you have thoes kinds of guests that leave their IQ at home while at WDW. Plus, you loose that CM to Guest contact that WDW is known for. For that and many other reasons, there will always be a monorail pilot IMO.

Walk thru -
Here is Bombardier's walk thru design.

Automation -
Why not like the way TDL does their automated monorails? They have a pilot who handles announcements and emergencies only. Bombardier has proven automation in the Las Vegas monorail (Layout and station choice are for another discussion) You are right there should be a pilot but maybe they don't drive.
