All humor aside, what kind of plans has WDW drawn up (and then shot down) for monorail expansion? How far did the planning get? What was planned? Is there any art work, plans or maps of proposed routings that are in public hands? While I realize it may be never that we see our beloved monorail expanded, it might be fun to see what has been contemplated.

Though it`s a bit hazy, it seems from actual images released the plan was to have a spur coming out of Epcot to the west - either from a station extention (thast not what the long ramp is for though) or loop off between The Land and Imagination (where footers were meant to be in place; though Soarin` kind of squeezes it up a bit) and then run between the Dolphin/Yacht and Swan/Boardwalk to a station at the studios behind Indy in the parking lot.

There was also planned a spur between Life and Horizons - a single track which could have been to another barn.

The original masterplan called for a Monorail from the T&TC to Lake Buena Vista Village (Downtown Disney) also.

Well, I was told that the Journey to the Center of the Earth attraction was one end of a system that would be a direct-connect to the Animal Kingdom. So when they install Journey in AK, the other end of the system will be complete. At least that's what I've been told.....

For what? For taking the rumor and taking it to the EXXTREEEMEEEE? It's not really that bad. There are many worse things that can happen on these forums, like personally attacking the guy, which noone has. We're just trying to have a little fun with a monorail thread for a change instead of beating it to death with debate.

Like you guys I get tired of reading the same thing over and over again. However, there are new people here who do not know how many threads have been started about the topic.

I am a Monorail pilot and this is one of the first three questions we get. 1) How Fast dose it go? 2) How long have you been doing this? 3) Are they going to expand it soon?

I love to joke and play with guest to a point but this is one topic I am very honest about. I tell them the truth. The are plans on the boards and at soome point they may come to light. However, we will most likely not see any expantion with in the next 5-6 years. There are other things Disney is looking at. Buses are alot easier to move around. The Monorail is cheaper on the fuel front but the construction is off the wall. I tell them it is not just building more beam way to the parks. We will have to add more trains and build a whole new shop. Also when and if they go ahead with it new codes requir a cat walk between the two beam ways the whole route of the beam way for saftey. The beam way that is in place was grandfathered in and dosnt req. If and when they extend to other areas its unclear if they will have to update the present route.

Also keep in mind, while it would be cool to go to AK and MGM ect.. When a train breaks down, and they do, The whole operation at some point come to a stop while we try to get the train off. This dosnt happen with buses. Also there are some concerns over at animal kingdom with how close the beam way would come to any animals. This point I think is minor, it would just require diferent routing.

So in short, There are plans and they are sitting in some exe file drawer but again do not look to see them come to light for at least 5-6 years..If that.


We will see ground broken for the 5 gate before the monroail..
