Monorail Expansion?

If someone has posted something that has already been replied to, or has gotten attention already simply point them to the thread that has information. Being rude is just wrong. Not all people are not aware and are new to this site. Not everyone knows everything about the park like some professional "posters" on this site. Try to be nice to people. It's not all that hard.

Well, WDW has all of eternity, so WDW is sure to have a monorail expansion in some of that time. Can we leave it at that?

WDW will not last for eternity. As soon as magic stops making money, WDW will be done for.

I am quite sure that Concrete beams are much cheaper than that.
The beam is not solid concrete. Much more than simply concrete goes into it. Think about the stress on the beam and amount of time it must last. And the beam is only part of the cost. The pylons themselves require very large foundations that have to be built very deep and wide to support the weight in Florida Soil (read: mush). Not to mention the cost of the trains, switch beams, stations, bus bar, electrical systems, maintenance facilities, and other operational necessities.

Still, it would be nice though, even if only to Animal Kingdom (MGM is already connected to EPCoT by ferry, and therefore, indirectly, to the monorail system).

Yes, but you cannot get to the ferry without first going into Epcot, making it very indirect. Although it's an idea, I don't see it happening soon, although something will be done with transportation in the future. Al (the WDW pres.) has expressed interest in a new system I have read.

On the Undiscovered Futureworld Tour at Epcot our CM told us 43 million per mile.

Yes, concrete beams may be a cheap componant, but the computer/electrical, surveying, and labor componants are not.

Actually, I'm not surprised anymore that this topic keeps surfacing. The monorail adds something unique, special, and magical to being at WDW. I know I am still fascinated by the monorail, as it glides through Epcot with that special unique sound. With something so magical, the occasional post about expansion is inevitable.

But alas...the huge cost...the logistics that show a fixed beam system won't handle the crowds...maybe Disney can come up with some newer technology that will allow for something more affordable, that can handle the ebb and flow of the crowds.

I'll wait...patiently...

Until then, the dreamers can dream, the naysayers can say nay, and the occasional post will be posted.:)

Light rail would be very feasible....

I must have missed part of the rules...

Somehow in reading the rules for this site I must have missed the part that said if someone posts about a subject you don't care for it is compulsory to read the thread, post rude comments about the thread + its originator, and then speak as if you were Bob Iger with the full weight of the Disney board about the subject. I personally find the flaming to be a much worse waste of time and space than the repeated threads that the self styled elite don't like.

I have been surveyed by Disney cast members while standing at the ferry dock at Boardwalk regarding transportation and one or the options they asked my opinion on was monorail expansion. If they have no intention to ever expand it no matter what whey would thy waste their time and mine with such a survey.

Will they expand it? I hope so. When will it happen? I haven't a clue. Is it more likely now with Bob I. saying he intends to upgrade and spend more on the existing parks and someone like John L. taking the creative healm than it was during the Mike E. days? I would guess so. Is it likely that they would design new monorail cards for Disneyland and not do something in Walt Disney World? Seems unlikely.

Monorail Expansion will happen just not in the near future. There are other priorities.

 I'm sorry, but I have to laugh at that.
Who do you think you're fooling?
I think by now we all understand your credibility.

I thought that there was definatly going to be a monorail expansion. When I bought into DVC at Saratogo Springs, I had to sign off that I was aware that there was a Monorail Easment on the property for future expansion. I just figured it was happening.

They are just covering themselves in the event they decide to do it. It would not suprise me if the first expansion was to Downtown Disney from the TTC, which would likely require passing through SS property.

Very True...That's one idea I've heard floating around...

That would surprise me...they already stopped Bus Transportation from DTD to the TTC/MK, becuase people were parking there and then going to the parks. This cut back on parking profits, but more importantly, left little to no parking for the people who actully wanted to shop/dine/party at DTD. A Monorail would just encourage people to park at DTD for a day at the parks, IMHO. Maybe a Monorail that required your key to the world/AP/parking pass to be scanned saying you paid your $9.
