I KNOW I KNOW, it's not going to happen and it has been explained a million times why. I was just wondering if anyone else heard this because I had never heard it.....from mouseplanet.com....."With Walt Disney World considering a possible expansion of its monorail system in 2007, Disneyland cast members are wondering what the future holds for their trains." So just wondering if anyone heard about that for 2007.

I was just about to post this. Seems very strange that mouseplanet would print this as they very rarely put any rumors on their site at all.

I didn't get a chance to see the post referenced above, but, as with all rumors, the key operative words are "CONSIDERING" and "POSSIBLE". Based on those "ways out" , it wouldn't be a very sound bet to take in favor of this happening.

I'm guessing it refers back to the news reported earlier that the DL Monorail system is in such bad shape that they have had to cut the number of trains in service by half and plan to limit ridership to getting resort guests to and from the parks.

CMs at DL are probably wondering if the needed repairs to their trains and track will be added to the budget, or if the system will just be scrapped and the trains shipped to WDW to be used on the rumored "possible expansion".

The ultimate question is: Will Disney execs budget the bucks needed to keep the Monorails "on track", or continue to spend the money on expansion of the parks??????

Yeah, everything is confirmed. The Monorail will run, non-stop, from my driveway to WDW.

Lucky SoB....

BTW, I read the article, and it sounds more like a small upgrate and expansion, nothing more.

Its true, the monorail wil lbe expanding. Inside information has informed me that, because of my constant harassment, the monoraill will run through the 3900 block of north Ashland, about a block from my backyard. GO CUBS,

Monorail expansion

I know it's been a while, but we were there in Jan. this year, and spoke with one of the operators about that. We were inquiring as to their expanding to other parks, such as MGM, AK. We were told no, but of course, all things are subject to change.

I think an expansion of some type is not totally one hundred percent out of the question...other than light rail...I think a great thing that can be done is some monorail system that connects The Studios and AK...much like Epcot and MK are connected...besides I doubt the AK area will be vacant for long...maybe this will be the area where we will see a new resort in the future????

AK Lodge needs either a monorail, boat, people mover or some other transport to get people to AK much faster...I mean the hotel is right there...yet sometimes it take an excess of 40 minutes while you wait for a bus to either get back to it or go to AK.

Anyways connecting AK and The Studios sounds much cheaper than connecting everything. Just my opinion.

:hammer:

Wow, that's ridiculous, considering that bus route would only be AKL>AK>AKL. I've never stayed there, just ate there.

I know they haven't/didn't but you would think something like the International Gateway at EPCOT would be built for the AK Lodge guests to enter AK by foot.

Since, right now, its so isolated from the rest of the property, and most of the people staying there are definately into the AK, that they would make that experience more convenient.

If i checked into the Lodge at those rates, only to find that out, i wouldn't be a happy camper.

Don't get me wrong...AK Lodge is up there with Grand Floridian...I have stayed at this resort a couple of times and each time I haven't had any problems with the hotel itself other than transportation.

I have read places that the Walt Disney World Monorail system is one of the most efficient people movers in the world. And with all of the money that disney has I wonder why they don't expand?!! And although this is a little off topic, about AKL...is a nature walkway possible that would connect AKL to AK via an interesting walkway past animals and vegetation...similar to a walkway from Boardwalk to Epcot? Just an idea.....:)

And something else...if the monorail is so expensive to build...then why did they build the giant expansion after they spent 1 billion dollars on Epcot in the 80's? Perhaps they should build a more centrally located TTC so that monorail expansion is easier???? of course that would mean A LOT of work and money!:hammer:

TDL just built a new monorail from the ground up...but that is TDL. lol Oh well we need to just send all the busses to hell and expand the monorail.

Hey swagger, welcome to the boards. :)

Yeah, i have a pic of one of the monorails at TDL in my album. They're designed much better than their sisters in CA and FL. They're more along the lines of regular subway cars in major US/Japanese cities. The cars are all joined so you don't have to worry about getting on the least packed car which is a subtle but very good upgrade.

A few comments...

The reason the monorail was expanded to Epcot is because back in '81... there were no other resorts besides the MK resorts. Now you have 21 resorts, and 18 of them are NOT designed to handle a Monorail. The infrastructure just isn't there. Not to mention, the expansion would be hideously expensive, and really wouldn't do what everyone thinks it would.

As for AK Lodge... the bus runs every 15 minutes on a fixed schedule in the mornings. It departs AK Park on :00, :15, :30, and :45 past the hour. It departs AK Lodge on :07, :22, :37, and :52 past the hour.

Besides...if we had monorails to everywhere we wouldn't have people like Tyler who are so much fun to ride in the buses with. I have met some really great drivers during my family's stays at WDW and while I enjoy the monorail, I also enjoy the buses (I know, call me strange).
