They do look much improved indeed!

As as for the state before their cleaning, I'm not sure how much could be done on a regular basis. I don't know how easy it is to get out there and clean something that extensive (and high up) routinely....

I think just something a bit more frequent than every 25 years would be an improvement :) LOL

That would be awesome. Pretty costly to build, though.
Is the tug electrically powered? If not then they might be able to make some sort of an "accessory" that would attach to it an be able to clean the beam. Even something as simple as a platform extending from it that would allow a guy to uses a standard pressure washer on it without needing a scissor lift would be a big improvement.

So I have a probably silly question...

But are the walls under the beam part of the cleaning or did I miss something?

They can do one section a night but it all depends on the weather, special events, EMH and construction vehicles in certain areas. Right now they are focusing on Future World East because they can reach it with a ladder except for the section over the section by the fountain with the walls around it and the water by the Odyssey bridge. I presume the entire Epcot section will be done by the opening of F&G (March 3rd).

what are they using to clean it? just a pressure washer? that's a tough clean right there...

Oh, not at all. And have them cycle through, like in the beginning of this video. :D

Can you tell that I have had the same idea? :D

Yes, yes! Could we have that please and thank you!?!

Ah, even better idea. I don't see why not.

The are probably using a high pressured power washer. I've done a bit of power washing work and that would be the tool to use. Also a huge pain. I can only imagine how big of a job it would be to do all of it. I guess I understand why it doesn't get done often.

Powerwashing would work, but the bigger issue is probably shielding all the plants, walkways, facades and other decorations from the dirty water and chemicals that run off during the cleaning. It must be a big job just cleaning up off the runoff, and probably even more difficult keeping it out of the waterways.

This is one maintenance job I'm really happy to see. Instead of looking futuristic and slick, the beams were a real eyesore. It makes me eager to get back down there and see how the place looks in person, which is what Disney probably wants.

I wonder if they could rig up a single train to ride the tracks. Kind of like a street sweeper, that cleans the tracks as it rides.

I'm not sure if pressure washing would really help. I never really found out for sure, but my impression was always that it's not dirty per se, but just that whatever the outer coating of the beamway is has worn away over the past decades. I would think what they're doing now is just recoating it.

On my hi-res pics, it does look like a powerwash, not a new coating. There are areas that have not cleaned quiet so well, which I dont think we'd see with a new coating.

Any idea how it's going to be done over the water?

My guess is with a better materials lift.

Only guessing right now, but over concrete they can use a scissors lift. Thats what I would use. The kind that goes straight up and down.

Over the water you would need one with a boom. Those are larger and take a bit more to get into place, then you have to brace them as well. Which if you are operating them on guest areas means you have to put down wood to protect the concrete.
