Monorail bad show

Or, heck, pick it up yourself. I've done stuff like that down there. I smoke, and if I happen to see a butt on the ground, I'll pick it up and dispose of it with mine when I'm finished.
That was absolutely my first thought, if it bothered you that much, then instead of being part of the problem, it's time to be part of the solution.

Yea I shared the cab with a monorail CM and another CM on his first day or maybe even his traditions. The guy took care of it.
OK, I see that it was taken care of, but, you need to change the title of the thread to "Monorail, bad guests". It isn't a bad show if some slob leaves half eaten stuff behind as if these people are servants instead of acting like thoughtful human beings. If the CM's you referred to just left it there and didn't take care of it, bad show! Whether they are 1st day CM's or been there since Walt. The fact that they picked it up defines good show, not bad.

People are slobs, but you can't blame them for a one off thing like this. It could have happened 5 minutes prior.

Just like a perfectly clean bathroom can be blown up by one person.

I suspect that for some it is related to the amount of money they are paying... at some point in the minds of some people when the cost reaches a certain point they rationalize that for what they are paying someone else should pick up the trash or whatever.[/QUOT

I try to not leave trash laying around and have taught my children, now adults, to do the same and how to act with civility and responsibility in public. However, after I've paid several thousands of dollars for my time at WDW, I will not subject myself to picking up some stranger 's germ riddled trash. There are people who are paid to perform that function and have the latex gloves and equipment to protect themselves.

Saw this trash and the CMs riding cleaned it up immediately. Go Disney! Awesome service!

OK, and hopefully you also don't complain about it being there. We all live in this world and if we don't help out when it comes to keeping things looking good, it will look bad. I'm sure that danish and those bottles were just loaded with plague germs. Can't be too careful.

For me, this symbolizes what is a much larger overall problem at the parks...

There seems to be a growing issue with guests feeling like they should be able to do whatever they want, be it leaving trash around, not obeying to safety instructions (like staying back behind the lines for the trams, etc.), and just having no sense of courtesy in general towards the CMs or even to other guests.

All of this leads to over-stressed and less-respected CMs, who get more and more frustrated by having to deal with guests who feel like they have a right to do whatever they want. In turn, the CMs end up being less-friendly and almost have to be militaristic in their attitudes before people actually listen to instructions. If I were a CM I'd be totally annoyed by this scene on the monorail because it shouldn't have happened, but I'd also be sure to clean it up.

It all makes for an atmosphere that is less magical than it should be, and is something that COULD be helped if people just acted with a little more couth.

I'm not saying things like this happen all of the time, but there is no worse way to start what is supposed to be a magical day at the parks than having to hear the parking lot tram CMs repeat and repeat to the point of having to yell to get people to stay behind the lines before the tram can move...it's exasperating! Things like this monorail scene will continue to get worse as long as people have less and less respect for themselves and for others when in public and in the parks.

I'd like to think this photo is an isolated incident, but from plenty of person experience in the parks I can say that it is unfortunately not.
Yup, exactly this. And to continue your point, I think that people dont obey rules because the legend of disney's service has been famously known throughout the US, and so people that visit take advantage of it, and is leading to what people call disney for losing its great edge.

Also, just as a side note like a few others have pointed out, the upkeep of the monerails in general is bad- there is an odd scent, ripped seats, and stain/mold marks.

Weird! I've been riding the Monorails every visit since February 1983.
That would be 44 visits. Covering every month except June, July or August.
They smell the same now as then, have never seen a "ripped" seat or anything other then recent stains (minor, but not mold) Then again I'm not sure what mold marks look like. I'm convinced that the notorious "smell" is the cleaning solution that they use and have used for years.

You should see what people leave behind on airplanes. I know, different topic (maybe)....but reeks of the same mind set of "someone else will clean it up". However, I will say Disney in general is cleaner than pretty much anyplace else I've ever seen on earth.....except Germany...good job Germany!

No, I don't complain about it being there. I don't like it, but I have to accept that not all people have the same standards of personal responsibility. I said germ riddled, which could mean anything from the common cold or strep throat or any one of many illness that could be transmitted via saliva left on the bottles or danish. With under 60 reported cases in the last decade, I didn't see the need to specifically call out the plague, but you're right; can't be too careful.

Exactly.

It amazes me how many interpretations we have for a piece of trash. If you think WDW is going to the dogs and falling apart, then this justifies it.

If you think all people are degenerates, or bad parents, or whatever, then this justifies it.

You go to that exact monorail can and take the exact same picture from the exact same angle, and do that once a hour for a year during operating hours, you'll get somewhere in the neighborhood of 3,000 pictures. one of which has a piece of trash in it.

Not sure I understand the CRISIS, but . . . Okay.

I am not trying to pile on to the OP, really, I'm not...but as a Monorail geek my first thought when I read the topic was to click and read to see what was wrong with a Monorail train or CM. Imagine my surprise to find it was really more about some uncaring or careless guest littering. (My second thought was "whew, it's not a Monorail thing" :D) I think that this could have been titled better. BUT...it does make for an interesting conversation, as I too have seen what seems to be a sense of entitlement with some guests...that "some cast member will get it" or some silly thought process like that.

It's a shame. And yeah, I see the same thing on planes when I fly. The crew only make like....8 passes through the cabin to get your trash during the flight...how hard is it to stick your hand out with your cup or newspaper in it?

Anyhoo...just my two cents...

That Minute Maid drink looks almost full too!....for the prices you pay for food and beverage at Disney, you wouldn't want this to happen often! I bet someone got yelled at for leaving their drinks behind! HAHA:hilarious:

(the following to be read with sarcastic voice) But, they paid ALL that money to go... They have the self imposed right to act the way they want! They're on vacation, they should be picked up after and given special treatment. Don't hate on them because they spent ALL that money to go, it's included magic that others make their trash disappear!!!

Once again, read all that in a sarcastic voice!

To be honest I put this on the guests and not on Disney. During a busy session they can't check every car at every stop, just not practical. Really disappointing that guests abuse the Disney cleanliness like this. Trash cans are everywhere, take the extra 2 seconds

So, you saw some trash, you witnessed it being cleaned up, but yet you still come here, post pictures and try to make it out as "bad show" without mentioning that it was cleaned up immediately in the OP.

Really surprised the way this thread was 'presented', like a sensationalist news 'story' leading the reader to come to certain conclusions. Why was it not mentioned that it was cleaned up right after the photo was taken in the first post?

As others have said it really is a bad guest issue unless this happens all the time as the monorails are never cleaned etc. I suppose a solution would be to search every person before boarding and refuse entry to those with any food or drink, or possibly delay every monorail departure by having every carriage searched by cm's inbetween boarding thus delaying guests even further

Well, it wouldn't be that long of a delay to just kinda walk by and give a quick glance over things. It's not a FP+ ride, but you know what they say about first impressions.

You say that now, but if CM's were having to glance over every car at every monorail stop every time the doors open, yes, that time would definitely start to add up quickly. The two pictures in this thread alone don't really serve as enough evidence that there is enough of a littering problem on the monorails that something like this should be at play anyway. The drink bottles were still standing upright, and the pastry was in one solid piece, so it didn't look like these items had been there very long. They hadn't been knocked over or kicked around, as one would expect to find them if they had made it through several hours of passengers coming and going before the pictures were taken.
