HELP! We are planning a vacation for 3 adults for the F&W fest for 4 days and are wondering what the best moderate resort is. Keep in mind we have only ever stayed at SOG previously.
Hi! Hope you have a great trip. We have stayed at all of the moderates except Coronado Springs, so I can't give you my opinion on that one. Our favorite of the Mods is Port Orleans French Quarter. It is beautifully themed and a smaller resort so you can walk from any building to the central area in just a couple of minutes. The drawback is that there is no full-service restaurant on site and the food court is fairly small. Riverside has a larger food court and a full service restaurant, but it is quite spread out so you might have a long walk. We have stayed at Caribbean Beach two times, and loved it both times, but it was awhile back. The first time we stayed in Aruba (I think) which was right by the food court area. It was ideal. We loved the food court and the full service restaurant. Lately I have seen some complaints about this resort, however, so you might be better off at Port Orleans.
We've stayed at Coronado Springs before and we enjoyed it. I believe they've just renovated some rooms actually.
Just be aware that if you do not request a specific building/room such as Cabanas, there is a chance you could be in a room far (and I mean far) from the main building which has check in/out, food, shops, the main bus stop, etc.
We stayed at CS 2 years ago, and even though the room we were in was a bit of a walk, honestly, I didn't mind the walk at all. So many things to look at, beautiful flowers all over the place and if we just didn't want to walk to the front store, we took the bus. We were at the last stop before the main building, so all we had to do was walk back. It's beautiful during the day and just as if not more during the night. And also very quiet too. The rooms are set up like the value resorts, but a bit larger, with a small fridge included, I liked it very much. Enjoy
I agree, CSR is absolutely beautiful (I've got lots of pictures in my 2009 link in my signature,) but I am so glad we didn't stay there while we were going to the parks. It was just way too much walking.
I'm dying to try staying in POFQ but it was booked for the time I was looking for last trip.
I have stayed at all 4 moderate resorts and while they are all nice Port Orleans Riverside and French Quarter are without question the best. The resort layout at PORS and FQ are much less spread out then Coronado or Caribean Beach and you also have the bonus of boat rentals as well as water access to Down Town Disney.
If you would like some help in booking or would like to check out rates feel free to contact me and I promise to take very good care of you.
My Vote is for the Coronado Springs
Oh and they too have boat rentals on Lago Dorado (Lake Dorado)
If you need more info on this Resort you can do a quick search and find tons of Threads devoted to it.
Have to agree, have stayed at CB and CSR and CSR has my vote! It is a large but beautiful resort. If you are looking to be close to the main hall and buses, I would definitely request a room in either the Cabanas (which I believe have just been refurbed) or the Casitas. We stayed in the Casitas building 3 and only had about a 3 minute walk to everything. Hope you enjoy your trip.
I never stayed at the CSR but did at Caribian Beach and at POR in fact we just got back and loved it! Check out this website for more info on the POR and POFQ. http://portorleans.org/welcome.htm
POR has nicer cleaner ammenities (food court, bar, gift shop, etc...) than the POFQ and we did take the opportunity to visit the POFQ during the trip last month. I reccomend the POR in a heart beat!
Our very favorite is POR. with 3 adults, though, you might like POFQ better. You can always go between resorts for the amenities. Nice boat ride to DTD is a plus. we like the grounds of POR better. POFQ is more compact. have a magical trip.
1. Great Layout
2. Beautiful area to walk
3. Food Court offers a lot of choices
4. Entertainment (Bob Jackson is great.)
5. A daily/nightly boat trip to Downtown Disney
6. Great pools
7. Great activities available
8. Great store
9. Nice Restaurant
10. 2 distinct areas (bayou, plantation)
have stayed at them all and truthfully you will be very pleased with any/all of them. each has its own personality and some of it you will like more than others... but i always love the Caribbean Beach Resort the best. in fact it is my resort of choice over any in the WORLD, yes even more than the Poly.
if you like to walk a bit thus you will not mind walking to the food court etc. then the newly decorated Pirates rooms in Trinidad South is something you will like. if on the other hand you do not want to walk much at all then i would suggest you request Martinque. my favorite is a waterview in Jamaica. it is so close to the bridge which i absolutely love crossing and spending time on just sitting in the hammock area, recalling years of trips with my wife (she is deceased 12 years this year). the only area i really do not care to stay in is Barbados.
the bus system is outstanding, keep in mind you are taking a bus to a park and so at times ANY WAIT is frustrating. while i like the food court in the POP CENTURY the best, the CBR's court is fine. the new pool rehab that was completed last september was WELL WORTH IT... the kids will LOVE the piarates/caribbean themeing to it..... to me the CBR is just the most peaceful and enjoyable place to stay. and if you like to run then the lake route is amazing.
POFQ is fantastic. Stayed there last August. Great atmosphere, great pool, not too big, pretty quiet, nice food court and shop, and pretty fast bus service. True, there's no TS restaurant, but the POR is just a short walk or boat ride away.
Our favorite and the only one we've stayed at is the Coronado (CSR). We've stayed seven times with seven nearly perfect visits and have chosen not to change as we see no reason to mess with success. It is a larger resort, but it only makes it feel less crowded and it is much more quiet. And being that it is a convention resort, it tends to have more adults (not that it is not kid friendly...we used to take our kids and it was their favorite resort).
