Almost every early reaction from Moana 2 — even from those who liked it — have said the music is inferior to the first film and that Lin-Manuel Miranda's presence is missed. Disney REALLy should have brought him back.

I suspect the only reason they did it was to avoid backlash for firing/letting go of the people they hired to write music for when this was meant to be a Disney Plus series.

Having seen the movie myself and thinking it’s good enough to be 7.5 or 8 out of 10 film, I can agree that while Barlow and Bear tried their best, not all the songs hit, with maybe only one or two or three being good songs.

I'm seeing it on Friday. My expectations are neither too high nor too low, so unless it's really disappointing, I feel I'll enjoy it overall.

Moana was such a great film...

Between this and Frozen, Disney needs to get a LOT better at protecting gold-standard franchises. Since the company is entirely focused on IP, you'd think they'd get this. Pixar generally does - even lesser sequels like Incredibles 2 underwhelm in ways that don't cheapen the overall franchise.

Looks like we’re off to decent-to good start with reviews for #Moana2 with a 64% on Metacritic. I will be curious to see what its Rotten Tomatoes score’ll be.

Isn't 71% kind of low for a "Disney" movie? I always thought these things were in 90% no matter what it is. Even Strange World got a 72%. The original Moana has a 92%.

That is a very tepid score (if it holds). It’s Pocohantas/Wish territory in terms of Disney animated Princess films.
