Sorry, never liked the buckets as they really screwed up the the theming of both lands it traveled through. Would love to see a skyride added to the Yacht and Beach/Boardwalk going across the water instead of using boats.

It would also be great if they added enclosed ski gondolas that could transport resort guests from the WL to the CR or TTC instead of busses. Probably never happen though.

Skyway

I believe they had several mishaps with workers cleaning the stations for the skyway. While cleaning, they would get bumped by one of the "buckets" and from being off balance would grab on and be taken airborn. I would definatly reccommend reading Realityland by David Koenig. This book explains many of the problems that Disney has had with their rides over the years.

You wouldn't happen to be David Koenig would you?

Who wants a pic from the storage? I have a car I bought from the ride also. :)

There is No such thing as the "Killer bucket"
The bucket was not to blame for the death , he simply lost balance and fell near the Water wall . Simply human error not mechanical.:(

I would LOVE a pic from the storage!! And just for good measure, a pic of the gondola you bought would be cool.

Just Curious as to where the CM fell. My sister worked at WDW in the late 90's and worked the Skyway. She was at the Fantasyland station when it when down one day. She walked to the end of the ride "chute" (where the gondolas came out) and the ride was turned on. She got bumped by one of the gondolas and lost her balance. She kind of jumped out and ended up landing in the small pond at the bottom of the station by the walkway. How she did not get more hurt i don't know, but she came away with only a slight fracture in her leg. I went down to visit and help her out afterwards. Very Lucky.

I am pretty sure it happened in the same place as your sister. Falls are can be really weird. I have met people that have come off the roof of a 3 story house and had only a few broken bones yet people die when slipping in the shower. It is all in how you stick the landing and what you hit on the way down.

No, I am not David Koenig. I just purchased the book and found it a good read. It is a very comprehensive book about all of the mishaps at Disney World.

I loved the skyway as a kid, it was so much fun. I still have a taped from TV copy of Mary Poppins back in the 80's, where the bumpers between commercials were done by Michael Eisner sitting in a hanging skycab (I think it was yellow). It was very neat. I think Mary was there too (not Julie Andrews) and a waiter-penquin at some point. I don't know, I haven't watched it in years.

Its dispicable that people would throw stuff! Where are the parents? :p

Oh, the parents are there. They just weren't raised well enough themselves to teach their kids that misbehaving like that is wrong.

When I was a kid (a loooong time ago) my parents would let us go off on our own for a few hours. My brothers were notorious for terrorizing from the skies in the sky buckets. I may have dropped a red hot or two but that was it. As for my parents' reactions, they woulda beat the crap outta us right there in the middle of Disney had they known. :ROFLOL:

But despite everyone saying if the Skyway still existed now, little children would terrorize everyone, I don't think that is true. Parents these days don't let their children run around by themselves. Times have changed, and parents seem to be much more protective. Kids will always have that mischevious nature, but with parents by their sides, throwing stuff/spitting off of the Skyride just wouldn't be an issue.

I have to disagree. I think kids are worse these days and parents are too. I've seen soo many brats running around and no parents there to do anything about it. Or they are standing right next to them and dont even notice how much of a terror their child is.

No, you don't see parents letting kids go in the parks at the ages we were (I was 11/12 and my sister 9/10). Times are different. You have to be more cautious and watchful. Or maybe parents just know better now. I think probably local teens will still be in the parks on their own when school is out.

I do miss the sky buckets sometimes. It was a relaxing ride.

Last trip I had a father behind me telling his rude teens to weazel their way in front of me & my boys at RnRC. :fork: I couldn't believe it. The guy was laughing. Some other parents and I talked loudly about them in front of them and made sure to shove the kids back.
