Eateries Reopen

(Orlando Sentinel) -- Inexpensive snacks were hard to find at Magic Kingdom last week. Disney World says it temporarily closed 14 eateries, including four of its 13 "Quick Bites" category spots, with pricing from $1 to $7 per person. Also closed were two of the park's nine counter service restaurants, where the typical fare is $5 to $12. But the cheap eats will be available again this week, says Disney. The closings occurred because Disney was "caught in a little bit of a gap period" without enough food-service workers, spokesman Bill Warren said.

Let me get this straight, they didn't have enough cooks, so that justified shuttering the cheap restuarants and forcing everyone into the more expensive restuarants? That is exactly what it sounds like.

I'm let down. They are generally more sneaky when trying to nickel and dime their guests to death.

Heading for the great escape.
Is it true Disney Execs are now issued a mask as well as keys to the executive toilet?

You hit it right on the head! And THEY hit their guests right in the wallet!

hmm..

before this gets blown out of proportion, lets all realize that only 6 of the 14 eateries closed were inexpensive, and also realize they were only closed for a WEEK.

Not everything is about budget,

Do you know which ones were closed?

I know that the mexican restaurant in Adventureland is/was closed a lot.

I know, I misread the article. Instead of reading "four out of 13 quick bites eateries", I just glanced through it and read "13 eateries closed."

Does anyone know why they were short of food-service workers anyway?

Interesting Rob...I remember a similar incident a few years back...they just couldn't find enuf help to handle the crowds...and most everyone I talked to said it was because of one thing...the "PAYSCALE SUCKS"........Disney is not alone trying to find unskilled workers that don't mind working for unskilled wages.

...they didn't close the eateries back then, but some of them opened late...and the lines were very long cuz they didn't have the people to man the registers, and food was slow coming out of the kitchens.... You would think the place would be swamped with college kids looking to earn a few bucks...but I hear more and more kids say they want the 'waiters' jobs so they can earn a decent wage in tips....no one wants to pick up cigarette butts or sell Mouse Bars off a cart.

lots of possible reasons..

but so I don't bore you, I'll guess what the most obvious one is..

Turnover from hell, and management is doing nothing to better it. Not to mention, CM's being fired for pointless things (ie-one CM was fired several weeks back after being physically attacked by a group of teenage guests. When she raised her elbows to block herself, a guest complained saying she had struck him, and she was fired an hour later, with NO investigation).

That is absolutely insane. So what was she supposed to do, get the living crap beat out of her and thrown in a dumpster? What if they were drunk as hell and tried to rape her (I'm assuming they were guys)? I'm still amazed at how completely screwed up management's policies are.
