MK closing at 4:30pm on 11/5 - why

Well you did not say anything about advanced notice or not, you were just talking about a place being closed. Our local place has had a sign up . But that does not mean everyone has seen it. Not everyone goes to the same place that frequently. It is possible they have a sign but someone not seen it. Either way, to get angry over a restaurant being closed is a bit extreme. There are food places all over. No one is going to starve because a restaurant is closed for a week or 2. One year for my birthday, my husband got up in the middle of the night to drive 3 hours to Kansas City to get me a food I loved. Turns out he gets there and they are closed for the day for some repairs. We still laugh about it.
Everyone is different. Some people like yourself like to turn the other cheek... others like myself get angry. Extreme would have been driving my car through the front of the place, but I didn't do that. You might consider what extreme really is because according to your definition just about everyone I work with is extreme, though I don't think I've ever witnessed a single one of them actually doing anything extreme.

I don't see it as "turning the other cheek" that implies they did something wrong to me. I guess I am just more of an understanding person. Maybe because I work in food and know how hard we work while being treated like crap by a lot of customers. Those people deserve a vacation just like you do. You are not going to starve and even if they don't put up a sign or they did and you did not see it (which is more likely), do you truly think that getting angry and feeling, as you said disrespected, is truly a reasonable response?

Why would you get angry when a business suddenly closes so everyone can take a vacation? Quite simply because you would expect a place like a local diner to give people notice they are going to be closing. Considering they have people that go there on a regular basis there is no expectation that they would just randomly close. So when you make a special trip to a place that without warning closed up for a week do you think you should jump for joy? Sorry, but it's a lack of respect for the customers not to simply put a sign up a few weeks before you decide to close down for a week, it isn't like they didn't make plan to close weeks in advance.

With all due respect, seeing as the date in question is the 5th of November, they have given notice. If you don't look at the parks hours when they're posted in advance that's your lookout.

So the goal is the become a CM before 11/5.

The goal has always been................to become a CM (or an Imagineer).

"Please slide all the way together. I get paid for the amount of people I take out; not the number I bring back..... Come on, pack 'em in, pack 'em in. Everyone turn around and wave good-bye to the people back on the dock... Come on wave! You may never, ever see them again. But then again, you probably never, ever saw them before.".........................................................................

With all due respect did you even read the context of what was being said and discussed? My post that you responded to was not in reference to Disney but rather a local diner that gave no notice.

Yes. It is a perfectly reasonable response. Just as my being annoyed by your pithy attempt at calling into question my ability to see a sign.

You can sit there and say "The toll plaza's told you it closed at 4:30, the trams tell you, the signs outside TTC tell you, the signs outside the touchpoints tell you, your app has said this for months, the Times Guide tells you, and you're still telling me no one told you."
"yes"

How would what be unreasonable? Guests complaining about the park hours? (not attacking just trying to figure it out) I guess just because that info is readily available, even if it can often be overlooked. I don't know what a CM is supposed to do about it though, if its posted online, the tram announcer states the hours, they are listed on the default TV channel that plays at 900x volume (if you stay on site) so I think WDW has covered themselves. That said, it is still easy to overlook, but I don't know what WDW is going to do about it...maybe change your ticket to a 1 day park hopper if you complain enough?

That said, the early close time is part of the reason websites are projecting an unusually sparse crowd that day, so I'd guess a rope drop to 4:30 day there could get you as many rides/experiences as a regular day there would.

People barely pay attention to anything, they're just excited to be there. Guest Relations cast is usually pretty understanding, especially if a guest arrived well after opening on these short days.

Don't most short days or early closures have plenty of signage around the park entrance to let everyone know? I'm not sure exactly how it'd work since there's now separate tickets for MK/the rest but I'm sure guest relations could easily give you a pass to a different park instead if you got the one day pass for MK and realized the issue when you got there.

During one of my past visits I was at EPCOT and they were in the process of closing the Seas for a private event at 5 or 6pm. I felt the money I paid for my ticket should include all the areas till the part closed.

I had a similar experience where they closed down the east side of Futureworld for a private event. Of course I could always come back on another day, and since I've experienced all of the attractions before, it's not the end of the world if I have to miss them. Still, it doesn't seem quite right that Disney can charge the same for an entire park as they charge for 80 or 90 percent of it.

Naw, I have to disagree with everyone that thinks closing early, at random, is ok. It is pee poor customer service. Period.

Spin it any way you want, but ultimately being unpredictable, even with some 'notice', is not good customer service.

I have been burnt four times in my life with this, and I have never forgotten.

Once was the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago that decided to close super early for whatever reason. I only had that one day free, so I was SOL.

Once was Universal Studios that also closed stupid early for whatever. Many of you have heard my story before. My on-site hotel looked over the fully operational park. Insult to injury.

Once was Warwick Castle in England. Closed down an entire wing of the castle. I suppose this is more like construction at WDW than closing WDW.

Finally, Six Flags in San Antonio, closed super early because it was a little too cold. This is also the only time management tried to make good. We all got a free set of passes on the way out. Sorta cool I guess.

In each and every case, the 'notice' was probably posted somewhere. I missed it every time. Heck, I didn't even go looking for it. I mean, what kind of pee poor management team closes willy nilly alienating their patrons? Or, more to the point, takes your money (full price mind you) and doesn't have a disclaimer somewhere?

Oh, wait, nevermind.

Why would you get mad at a hard working family taking a vacation? And about your other statement about people getting mad if MK was closing early, that is on them. If you are going somewhere special and spending hundreds of dollars there, you should at least look up their hours for the day. Personal responsibility.
Oh now you have done it. Personal responsibility is so old fashioned. It is now always someone else's fault.

During one of my past visits I was at EPCOT and they were in the process of closing the Seas for a private event at 5 or 6pm. I felt the money I paid for my ticket should include all the areas till the part closed. They had a bunch of evergreen trees in pots and were using them to make a wall to keep people out. I was inside when they closed off the entrance. They were just waiting for people to exit before closing of the exit. All the trees were there ready to go. I felt cheated out of something. Your ticket price should be less if you are not getting 100% of the park. I had just visited Seas so I was not planning to go back. So closing did not effect me I any way. It just struck me as wrong.
It is not usually something decided that day. Normally have weeks of notice.

That said, park estimates have MK as pretty slow that day for obvious reasons- it may be worth doing a half day at MK and half at another park if you want to see MK with a reasonable crowd.

You know someone is going to get there with a 1 day, 1 park ticket and then complain once they are already inside and are told at 5:13 to please exit.

Well, rightfully so. At bare minimum, Disney needs to make sure everyone entering that day is advised that it'll be a short day. I remember once we were at WDW and the park was closing around the time mentioned by the OP; it was our last day, and we were already headed out of the park as we had to catch a plane back across the country, but if we hadn't been, we would have been upset. For a park that demands so much advance planning, not making sure guests know they're about to get less park for their ticket seems unfair.
