MK closing at 4:30pm on 11/5 - why

That said, park estimates have MK as pretty slow that day for obvious reasons- it may be worth doing a half day at MK and half at another park if you want to see MK with a reasonable crowd.

You know someone is going to get there with a 1 day, 1 park ticket and then complain once they are already inside and are told at 5:13 to please exit.

How would what be unreasonable? Guests complaining about the park hours? (not attacking just trying to figure it out) I guess just because that info is readily available, even if it can often be overlooked. I don't know what a CM is supposed to do about it though, if its posted online, the tram announcer states the hours, they are listed on the default TV channel that plays at 900x volume (if you stay on site) so I think WDW has covered themselves. That said, it is still easy to overlook, but I don't know what WDW is going to do about it...maybe change your ticket to a 1 day park hopper if you complain enough?

That said, the early close time is part of the reason websites are projecting an unusually sparse crowd that day, so I'd guess a rope drop to 4:30 day there could get you as many rides/experiences as a regular day there would.

Well, I would - if I weren't an obsessive like we are here. Luddites wouldn't know - especially if they were buying a 1-day pass. So, how would that be unreasonable?
Why wouldn't they know? The park hours are posted loud and proud when you drive through the turnstiles, before you even get to the TTC to buy your one day pass.

I still say your perspectives are informed. I hate to break it to you, but most people can't find their a-s-s with both hands.

Oh yeah, that's why I said there will be plenty of people that complain to a CM when they are getting herded out at 5-5:30 after being asked 4-5 times to head to the exit. And I don't always listen to or read the park hours every time I am there, but if I was buying single park tickets I would like to think I would. But I know people who go in to trips like this who don't bother with details like that until its too late, then go chew out an employee because they didn't pay attention.

If I was vacationing there during that day, I'd go, just for the light crowd. You could have a full day, go back to the room, rest, then go eat, or just park hop over to Epcot.

I forget about fireworks though. People lose their minds about fireworks, or lack thereof.

Reality is there are going to be people that planned a one day stop there on a vacation and if they did any planning at all it might have been looking at the hours of operation when they decided to take the trip. Probably didn't bother to pull up anything for that particular day at best might have said well we are going to be there on a Monday so what are their hours this Monday because surely they will be the same when we get there.... and then when they get there finding out at the Tram or at the gate doesn't solve their problem... I've had it happen to me at a mom and pop restaurant where I live, their hours never change but then you show up and find a sign saying "We will be closed for such and such week for a family vacation." at which point you do get a bit angry. Though in my case we just go somewhere else, that isn't quite the way someone that's dropped by MK for a day at the park is going to react if they find out on arrival that the hours have magically gotten 4 hours shorter than they expected.

I had something similar happen to us at our first trip to Universal. We planned a Wednesday in the middle of our WDW trip to do Uni. We bought the park to park pass and got there about 10 am. We found out once we got there that they were closing both parks early for a private event. We werent mad at anyone but ourselves because we didnt really get to slow down and enjoy things like we would have if we would have gotten 4 extra hours in the park. Oh well, live and learn. Now we know for next time to check in advance that there wont be a private event the day we go.

Universal seems to keep Amish hours anyway. They'll close at 5 some days even when there isn't HHN or something. That's the one big negative I have on that place.
I noticed that too, especially compared to WDW. We went in September right after labor day, so maybe it was because the lull before HHN began. MK was open until 11 most nights on the other hand.

Why would you get mad at a hard working family taking a vacation? And about your other statement about people getting mad if MK was closing early, that is on them. If you are going somewhere special and spending hundreds of dollars there, you should at least look up their hours for the day. Personal responsibility.

Our favorite local Chinese place closes for 2 months for them to go back to China. My range of emotions are upset that I cant have their delicious food, to disappointed that I have to eat at the not-as-good place down the street. :joyfull::joyfull:

The local gyro place that my daughters and I love is a family owned business. They are closed this week for a trip back to Turkey so that he can visit his parents. Can't really be mad that they want to see their Mom/Grandma.

It's not unheard of for WDW to upgrade single day tickets to park hoppers when there's a short day like that...

Well, I was going to suggest you use the opportunity to try Greek food, but...

During one of my past visits I was at EPCOT and they were in the process of closing the Seas for a private event at 5 or 6pm. I felt the money I paid for my ticket should include all the areas till the part closed. They had a bunch of evergreen trees in pots and were using them to make a wall to keep people out. I was inside when they closed off the entrance. They were just waiting for people to exit before closing of the exit. All the trees were there ready to go. I felt cheated out of something. Your ticket price should be less if you are not getting 100% of the park. I had just visited Seas so I was not planning to go back. So closing did not effect me I any way. It just struck me as wrong.

That's not how it works. Attractions go down, close early, are used for special events. That's not just a Disney thing. Go to any museum and you'll find similar things. It sucks when you can't do one thing that you really wanted to do, but life's too short and, with everything else that is available to you if one thing is closed, Disney is hardly under any obligation to give you money back or FastPasses to something else. I get that you wouldn't have actually asked for money back, I'm just commenting on the situation you described.

Why would you get angry when a business suddenly closes so everyone can take a vacation? Quite simply because you would expect a place like a local diner to give people notice they are going to be closing. Considering they have people that go there on a regular basis there is no expectation that they would just randomly close. So when you make a special trip to a place that without warning closed up for a week do you think you should jump for joy? Sorry, but it's a lack of respect for the customers not to simply put a sign up a few weeks before you decide to close down for a week, it isn't like they didn't make plan to close weeks in advance.

Well you did not say anything about advanced notice or not, you were just talking about a place being closed. Our local place has had a sign up . But that does not mean everyone has seen it. Not everyone goes to the same place that frequently. It is possible they have a sign but someone not seen it. Either way, to get angry over a restaurant being closed is a bit extreme. There are food places all over. No one is going to starve because a restaurant is closed for a week or 2. One year for my birthday, my husband got up in the middle of the night to drive 3 hours to Kansas City to get me a food I loved. Turns out he gets there and they are closed for the day for some repairs. We still laugh about it.
