Could someone explain the closing phases to me? Also, when you are staying at a Disney resort, is closing phase info on one of the resort channels? Thanks!

No thank you. Been there, done that, bought the T-shirt.

I was there for 1997/1998 New Years Eve. I am glad I experienced it once but would never choose to go during Christmas week ever again. We were in Magic Kingdom on New Years Eve and the park filled to capacity and shut it's turnstiles before noon. It was also Disney World's 25th Anniversary (year with the cake castle) so it was extra nutty. I still have the notice they handed out that says to stay put in the park of your choice rather than hopping because you might not be guranteed re-entry to any park due to the crowds. They handed out hats and horns though and it got loud and fun.

One thing I remember about the LONG lines is that our family had a ton of time to talk and laugh and make memories beyond the attractions.

December 31, 11:15am -- Magic Kingdom is at a Phase 3 closing. Day guests will be turned away. All other parks remain open.
Phase Three means that currently admission is limited to Disney Resort Guests, Annual and Premium Annual Passholders, Guests of Shades of Green at the Walt Disney World Resort and Downtown Disney Resort Area Guests using their respective transportation. Guests not meeting the above criteria are told the Theme Park has reached capacity.
As a reminder, there are still several New Year's Eve entertainment options at our parks including:
  • Epcot -- IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth at 7:30pm & 11:40pm
  • Disney-MGM Studios -- Fantasmic! at 6:30pm, 8:30pm & 10pm and Lights! Camera! Happy New Year! Fireworks at 12 midnight
Please continue to check the Advisories often throughout the day for updates on theme park phase closing conditions.

splash mountain

an earlier post said they thought splash mountain's lines would not be too long... well i disagree... check out the temperature down there i believe it is around 80 today.

i did christmas through the day after new year's back in 1996/1997 and we loved it. yes it WAS CRAZY and yes long lines and yes the crowds everywhere and YES and YES.... but would do it again. my wife died that following June and so for these many years it was not possible for me to go there during that time of year just to many memories and to deep the pain still but i think for 2008/2009 i will do so again. hopefully not by myself but we will see.

yes it is crazy then but WELCOME TO THE CARIBBEAN LOVE -- SAVVY

The weather is very warm right now (in the high 70s) with very cloudy skies and intermittent rain. Supposed to only get into the low 60s tonight.

MK's road signs now say "FULL" but all other parks are still at normal operation. I'm heading off to Epcot in a few hours...

Happy New Year everyone!

So sorry to hear of your loss... I hope you can make it back again soon...

There are some difficult memories at the MK for me, too, but it gets easier...with time.
