Thats what being a mom means...we hold the facing us to protect them and dad holds them out to face the world. Now I'm not saying dad wouldn't die protecting his little ones, but they seem to be able to let go easier.

I recently heard it put this way:
While watching their children climbing on a tree or playground equipment, Dads urge their children on, encouraging them to go further and higher, while Moms stand beneath them, assuring the children that she is there to catch them if they fall.
