Hi Nibs!
Glad your shower went so well. The recipe book really brought a tear to my eye. I have a few of my grandmother's recipes too - in her handwriting even- but loften she didn't really measure ingredients, so I haven't been able to perfect some of them.

Thats how my grandmother was too! We lost her wonderful doughnut recipe when she dies, but I have some because I would watch her cook and write things down. I found out her "cup" for measuring was a coffee cup!

My MIL does that... not writing recipes down, I mean. But I think she does it so we can't copy them and make something that her sons like better than how she makes it. That way, if they want it "just like Mom makes it" they have to go home to get it!

I've repeatedly asked her for the recipe for Marc's favorite dishes and she just waves it off saying she just works from memory. :lookaroun

Reminds me of the Everybody Loves Raymond episode where Marie switches spices on Debra.

Maybe offer to help cook sometime. :lookaroun

I've tried that! She won't stand to have anyone in her kitchen when she cooks, and she gets rather agitated if you try to help. But when I've cooked dinner for her, she won't get out of my kitchen no matter what DH and I have tried!

Have everything ready to go into the oven/pot before she gets there. Then you just have to turn on the heat and she can't "supervise". :lookaroun

Well, I know 1 thing I won't be getting from the bunny (Chronicles of Narnia).:D Speaking of which, I got a program for my computer that lets you take still images from DVDs. I spent all day yesterday taking pictures from that movie (HP 4 is next:animwink:). Well, time to go home from school!:sohappy:

That's the problem with my grandma's recipes too. She never measures either...so I have to try to get things right by taste too. I know it will be tough...I've come very close to getting her mashed potatos to taste right...but sometimes I still miss the mark.

(And trust me...you should have seen me bawling when I opened that present up and saw that! I was almost shaking...although it doesn't help that my best friend then mentioned how she had originally thought I'd opened up a picture book of pictures of my grandpa...that made me cry even harder...and it was very hard to compose myself after that. Gosh darn my friend!)
