That'll be nice. My mom stayed home w/ us growing up and it was great. For extra money she had just a few kids that she babysat in our house which was also good for me to have playmates. :)

I think it's one of the best things you can do for your kids... but it's not always easy to get by on one income.

I bought a book a while ago that's all about the "Two income trap." It's really fascinating to see how housing prices and everything all factor into the nessesity of two incomes these days. It used to be that two incomes was a luxury, and the second income provided all the little nicities in life. Now two incomes are practically required if you don't want to live in the worst part of town. And around here, the housing prices are insane!!

I know. I hope that once the time comes for me to have children, we can afford to be on one income. I can't imagine not staying home and raising my own kids.

What's the housing market like down your way? For example, up here a 4 bedroom colonial on a half acre will run you $450 - 500,000.

Well before Ivan it was nice, now it is crazy but dead in the water.

you could expect about $350 and up for what you are talking about.
I have a 3 bedroom with an office and a pool.. close to $300 so not to bad!

Sigh... what I'd give to move somewhere where housing's more affordable. Our mortgage is just huge. But it's what we had to do to live in a nice area. We've got one of the state's best elementary schools in our district, and it drives the prices through the roof.

There's a group here today visiting from our Chicago office. I know for a fact that I can fit into a largeish suitcase (don't ask :lookaroun )...all I can do to restrain myself from squeezing into the one that one of them left in the coat closet right across from me. :zipit:

Woah, all these discussions about housing are interesting. I plan to move to Florida upon graduation from school (December 2007) and I'm a little scared about making it on my own. Yeah I plan to work for Disney and I'm trying to get in contact with people who can take me in as a roommate. But I'm still nervous about being able to live off of a single salary.

I'm with ya on that. I'd love to even work from home. I need to work on building my freelance portfolio before that I guess... Oh, hum...

Florida's pretty cheap - especially compared to prices around here. Whenever we head down to Disney we're always shocked by all the billboards touting houses similar to ours, yet cost half as much. It's weird. Although the salaries are probably a little lower to compensate for the low cost of living. (I'm guessing)

its all relative though, what you and Marc make in Baltimore is probably more than I do in 2 years... so it evens out I guess.
Hurricane Ivan wiped out our housing supply and the prices went through the roof. Now they are coming back down since nobody is buying. Our problem is Insurance, if you can get it, its outrageous, I haven't been nailed yet but they are doing it by zipcode and proximity to the water. I am about 700 yards from the water! NOT GOOD!

Maybe you could be roommates with Jo when she graduates!
