So I was by the upstairs window looking down at the trick or treaters, when I notice a strange looking costume down by the sidewalk. It was all pink and HUGE... so the kid turned and walked a bit towards the street.... and that's when I notice two strange looking appendages that were flapping around the kid's ankles...

Then it hit me...

There was an 8 or 9 year old walking around the neighborhood in a giant, padded costume that resembles the male anatomy....

Marc answered the door when it rang, and confirmed that, indeed, that's what it was.

But the funny part is the kids at the house next door were perplexed as to what this was... they decided he was dressed up as a donkey.

I noticed their parents didn't correct them.

Nothing surprises me anymore.
I heard a report on the news about a very suggestive pole-dancer costume, sold for little girls, that even comes with the pole!!!!

We went to our daughter's house for Trick or Treat.
Very slow night. Last year was much more active.
I don't understand it because it was a gorgeous night! We sat out on the front steps and didn't even need jackets.
We did have a couple of awesome Captain Jacks! And more than a few Princesses. Not much else though.

That is just so appalling - I'm speechless!

We just had the usual assortment of princesses, animals and teenagers....

We had a lot of pirates ( my favorite!) Star Wars, a few geishas, and a lot of princesses, scary monsters and the like...

Nothing surprises me anymore.

DS always goes to his buddy's house, which they transform into a real horror scene. Not my cup of tea, but then I'm not a 17-year-old boy either. Anyway, his role this year was to stand perfectly still and stare wildly at guests while dressed in suitable blood and gore. One parent came with a 2-year-old who was totally terrified by the whole thing. so she just kept holding her up to DS and laughing at the poor little kids' reaction....:hammer:

We had fewer than usual too - and the weather was fantastic - no jackets needed! I'm not really sure where everyone went....

Poor kiddo...

We did have some absolutely adorable little kids though... some were just so precious.

Why do people think it's fun to scare the stuffings out of little ones???
That sort of thing is fun for older kids who know that difference between fantasy and reality. Little ones don't get that!

We had one little girl (probably about 4 years old) who wanted to come in and meet my dog. I invited her parents to bring her in, and Kody was just so cute with her - she's such a great dog!

I found it a bit disturbing.
A story on the news on Monday told of a school principal who canceled a Halloween parade that had been a tradition at the school for many years. It was just a simple thing. . .the kids and their teachers and parents parading around the block in costume. The principal said he was canceling because he feared for the safety of the children!!! There were no threats or anything of the sort. Many of the parents were very upset and I think rightly so. Today's world can be scary, but when you stop living your life because your afraid. . .that's just not right. I'm concerned that Halloween as a whole, is changing too drastically from what it used to be. I'm not sure if fear is the reason, but I sure hope not!

I know.... but technically they're still all in the spirit... that's the trick part. But obviously common sense should be used as to WHO to scare. 2 year olds should be off limits. 6 and 8 year olds are different.

I know what you mean - but maybe it's just a sign of the times. It's just not cool anymore...

On a related note, this was the first Halloween in 21 years that I haven't had to make or participate in some type of costume for kids.....

A little sad about that?

Yes and no - I loved it for my own kids and I really made them some incredible costumes, but the other 3 usually didn't decide 'til the last minute, so I was really under the gun to come up with something clever at the last minute. I don't miss that!

I do wonder if they missed me though.....

I see the kids at church every week, and at least the youngest still hugs me. Their dad went to Washington last weekend to run in the Marine Corps marathon, but apparently he didn't take the kids. He ran it a few years ago, and we took the kids with us and cheered him on. Apparewntly he didn't want them around either. I'm not sure what his problem is lately, but it's clearly not just me.

Good morning everyone. Just checking in from work. It was actually kind of fun. It was kinda crowded out there, but then again, the party was sold out. And before the party, I met up with Bonny and family at MGM. That was fun. We went on the GMR, and the gangster was really cute.:D
