Mission Space

One of my favorite attractions at WDW, however it does seem to be getting a little dated.. the motion tech is still awesome but the cgi and such seem pretty out of it. Has anyone heard of any refurbs coming in the near future?

I like Mission Space, too. I don't know of any updates but I agree that the ride looks just a tad dated and should be due for a major refurb like Soarin'. So, hopefully this will be next after the new Soarin' opens.

This is what I think Disney should do.

First - MS: Orange feels *so* intense and MS: Green is too boring -- so Disney can balance it out into a single ride system -- by decreasing the intensity of Orange and increasing the intensity of Green -- thus eliminating the need for any distinction.

Mission Space will be *one* ride that the whole family can enjoy.

Second - Change the story line and make it more fun and educational by initiating the space shuttle to soar throughout the galaxy and explore our solar system by paying a visit to each of the beautiful planets instead of just Mars.

Finally, update the video quality to HD with larger screens so everything can be vibrant and appear larger than life and really great musical score. The thrill level should be the same as Test Track. And, *no* 3D/4D -- that will be too much.

Mission Space should be a beautiful, breathtaking and exhilarating experience that inspires children and anyone to learn more about Space & Aeronautics -- instead of the current 'terrifying verson' where your only hope is to make it out alive.

Also, keep the buttons -- people like to push buttons and keep Gary Sinise, he really makes it feel like you're on a real space mission.

The problem for me, and I imagine for others as well, is the spinning. Even less intense spinning would make me :depressed:. I can ride big thrill rides all day but won't step foot on the teacups with someone I don't trust not to spin.

Hi @Huglife! I can't ride the teacups either, even with no spinning. The teacups are the worst ride in all of Disney, as far as I am concerned, lol.

But, Green doesn't do anything at all though. If you can't handle even a *little* spinning then Disney will just have to keep the non spinning option for you. LOL.

I just feel like Mission: Space could be more enjoyable if we can relax a little more. In order for me to survive this thing, I cannot move one inch. My eyes are wide open and my head is pressed way back into the headrest and I do not move. Like, I am afraid to even breathe, lol. I do push the buttons though without really looking, Not fun.

Surprised they never taken a Star Tours route with different planets and obsticles to deal with...
OMG, great minds. I was going to say this but I held back. I'm so glad you did though because I think this is an *awesome* idea for Mission: Space -- by incorporating random sequences of varying scenes and depictions of space travel, the experience will always be fresh and exciting.

I really love this ride, I also love the spinning(even after drinking a full Java Chip Frapp :depressed:)! However I do agree that a refresh would be good for it. I like the idea of multiple scenarios and also the idea of visiting different planets. Hope they do something with it soon.

To start out there are certainly other things that need some attention at Epcot ahead of Mission Space. That said, my "dream" would a version of the attraction that was truly interactive where what the team does actually impacts the mission. As it stands you can just sit there and do nothing and you'll make it. Of course, it might be a little too intense when the ship crashes into the side of a canyon wall. Of well, a fellow can dream.

I don't think the intensity of MS Orange should be dialled down at all, the way it is currently is required to produce the g-forces necessary to make it feel as though you are actually launching, it makes me feel a little sick but I feel this is a trade off for something that is about as close as I will ever get to experiencing a real rocket launch! If that feeling was lessened it would massively reduce the appear of the attraction to me, about half my family can deal with the orange side for the others there is the green. This sort of attraction will never please everyone, it's about the only ride that spins I can really deal with, I often pass on Primeval whirl for that reason!

I was always a space junkie as a kid so I still love Mission Space! My daughter and I always do Orange. I've never even tried Green. My wife can't handle the "spinners" so she waits for us and people watches. lol

First... NOOOOO... Dont decrease the orange. Its fine as is. If its too much for you, do the green but dont take away my thrill because its too much for you. Why water down rides and ruin them for others? Its like saying SM, RnRC or BTMRR should be slowed down because guests dont like fast coasters.

Second.& Finally .. Yes.. I'd love a more thrilling space ride through the galaxy. With Hubble images and others, it could be so much more visually thrilling. It would surely enhance to trip. As long as it keeps the thrills and doesnt get too bogged down with education, I'm at a theme park not a classroom. They could do more with the after ride area if they wanted more of a teaching/ inspiring space for future scientists.

Yes.. the buttons are fun. I love being in the capsule and get the feeling of a confined rockt seat amid the displays & screens. Keep Gary involved with the story line. Hes such a great actor and could add to making the story more of a reality.
