Mission: Space - to do or not to do

Just trying to decide whether to do Mission: Space on my next trip. I've only been on it twice and that was several years ago because everyone I've been to WDW with in the last few years has been too scared to go on it because they think they will die and don't feel it's worth it to do "Mission: Space - lite" so you don't get the full effect of the ride.

Here's some things to consider. The two times I have been on the ride I felt quite light headed afterward and had to take a break before continuing on around the park...I chalked that up to my low blood pressure. Not a huge deal but it was a little bit before I felt like going on another ride.

My sister is a bit nervous taking my neice (8) on the ride because even though she hasn't had any health problems she has heard about a child dying due to an undiscovered medical condition and figures that would be a crappy way to find out.

I wouldn't mind trying the "green" version but if you don't get any of the same effects at lift off or the feeling of weightlessness then it doesn't seem like much fun.

I'd like to know what you guys think and if anyone has done the "green" version and enjoyed it let me know

thanks

I did the green last time I was there with my wife. She was very skeptical about the confined space and didn't want to try spinning at all. So to compromise I did the green to at least say I did it.

It was ok....you don't get any weightlessness or anything close to that. But it did at least give my wife an opertunity to say she had rode it.

I might suggest riding the green with your niece just if it would make her mother a little less worry some.

Its not bad, but I am sure if I had done the orange I would maybe be a little disappointed with the green.

If you have done the orange before and had the same results both times, it might be wise to stay with the green.

hope that helps

Do not do it...

Thats my personal opinion..this is one of the FEW things about the world that I do not like at all...I think it is a pointless ride and would prefer to ride It's a Small World fifty times in a row and then Stitch 50 times in a row before I would ride Mission Space...:)

Like I said..My opinion...:)

I enjoy both versions, and I try to ride both on every trip.

The Green version still has plenty of motion, just no spinning. I think it is still fun and entertaining even without the G-forces.

And as far as safety goes, M:S is far, FAR safer than the car, plane, or bus you traveled to Florida in...

I have to admit that I had a bit of the light headed experience myself on the orange a couple of years ago, but it probably didn't help my experience that a woman in the ride at the same time as me and my DW had a bit of panic attack due to the confined space.

Anyway, I didn't go on it during my last trip but I will probably go back for green on my next trip to compare.

I am too chicken to ride the intense version because I am sure I would get sick. I would love to experience it but since the G's are acheived through spinning I don't think there is anyway I could take it. DH says a great way to describe it is the feeling that you get on EE on the end of the backwards part only alot longer and more intense. The green version is still fun I would stick with it, I wouldn't waste park time by being sick from it.

I was scared out of my mind the first time I rode it since I have both a fear of closed spaces and I don't do a lot of motion sensitive rides well -- but I rode the "orange" side and LOVED it!

I probably won't do the orange side again, but I had a great time on it when I did ride it and I would recommend it to any thrill seeker. If you wanna ride it but you don't want to go full on, then the green is worth checking out and work doing to see if maybe you think you could handle the orange side.

I love the green side. We'll ride it over and over since the line is usually so short.
I'm going to try Orange for the first time this year. I promised my friend I'd do this if he does Tower of Terror.

My son and I have been riding since before they had "Green" and "Orange", it was all orange. Love the ride. I have occasionally felt slightly light-headed, but never sick or even nauseous.

I have never worried about the issue of a young person who died as a result of an undetected condition, the reality is the odds are infinitesimal that anything like that could happen and even smaller that it could happen again. If you live your life in fear all you succeed in accomplishing is being afraid.

If there truly was any significant risk, they wouldn't operate the ride.

I have ridden this twice and only got a headache once. We were also told it was a bad idea to eat before ridding the orange mission.

Its a piece of crap if you ask me, a badly animated, 3 minute "tutorial" flight with tiny screens, 2 preshows, and a weak postshow that does not make for a good replacement for Horizons, I haven't touched the ride since it opened in 2003. You may like it but I found it to be a waste of time.

I think I'll just do it and try the green version...like I said I have done the orange one twice and with my low blood pressure I don't want to waste the 20min to half an hour of dizziness I feel afterward by not having fun in the parks.

I did enjoy the ride but not the dizziness that followed and I don't think it's worth it to give my sister a panic attack to do the orange version (she's seen me faint to many times because of my low blood pressure and she'll be so nervous watching me on the ride I don't think she'll have fun)

I'll try the green for once and see if it's still got some thrill to it.

thanks for all the advice

My question to you is does you niece ride roller coasters and I am not talking like little ones or even space mountain or thunder mountain, more like the rocking roller coaster type, or the real big boys, the Cedar Fair and Six Flags hyper and looping coasters, the real big boys with 200ft drops and inversions and loops, If she would go on something along those lines then she would be fine on Mission Space orange, thats the easiest way to explain it, a lot of the misconception of this ride is that it was simple motion based simulator, its not its a un adulterated thrill ride.

That being said its a blast and incredibly immersive experience and I highly recommend it.

she rides EVERYTHING! She's fine on the Rock-n-rollercoaster so she'll probably be OK on this. Great point though, I wasn't really thinking of that, it may be an easier way to explain to my sister that she'll be OK>

As for my dizziness after the ride, as long as we don't do Soarin' right afterward I'll be fine. We'll just walk around the showcase until I feel back to normal

I've gotta say that the G forces on Mission: Space orange are less than those on Rock N Roller Coaster. If you can handle Rock N Roller Coaster, you can handle Mission: Space. However, if you're still unsure, just try green... it's the same ride minus the G-forces. Same experience really and you can get a feel for what the ride is like.

I felt dizzy the first time I rode but I learned my lesson,

#1 make sure you eat breakfast,
#2 do not ride until an hour or so after said meal
#3 make sure you are well hydrated before riding

I work at a Cedar Fair park up here in the Northeast, yea that isn't too obvious which park it is, had a middle aged woman come off a roller in the middle of the afternoon she hadn't eaten all day, hadn't been drinking water and it was 80 plus with around 90% humidity and she wondered why she didn't feel well.

Same thing goes for MS, make sure you eat and have been drinking your fluids, its amazing how fast your body gets dehydrated in the heat and humidity.

As someone who went on both green version and the other one i can say that green is just your kind of ride. This is one of Epcots best rides and one of my favorte Epcot atractions. So when you go ride and your like it!!!

Wow. I'm sorry so many people have trouble riding M:S orange. Fairly mild ride if you ask me, but then I love the big bad rollercoasters, bungie jumping, etc., so that may have something to do with it. I can feel the G's, but would like to feel a few more and have a more realistic video. I think it would also be cool if they could change it to a "real" trip to Mars and have you exit the craft in another room that was Martian like leading to the exit que.

To the OP, due to your medical condition of hypotension, it would be irresponsible for anyone other than your personal physician to recommend whether you ride or not-give him/her a call.

Funny thing is I have been on the biggest fastest loopiest rollercoasters in the world with no problem but can't do anything too spinny
