I have not been to Disney since 2002 and at that time they were only constucting mission space. My next trip is August 27 and I dont really know weather or not I can handle it. I dont get motion sick, (like on rides and stuff) however I DO get sea suck. For all of you who have expieranced (sp?) the ride could you tell me weather or not you think I can handle it? The birnbaum book describes it as "space sickness".

Like I said, I dont get motion sickness however I do get sea sick

You feel an enormous pressure on your body.

What the ride does is the spin you around really really fast, so it pushes your body up against the seat.

Whether or not you can handle it, that is up to you. I hope I could have been of some help!

From what I recall of the ride, there isn't much "back and forth" rocking, the kind that would make you seasick. I think the biggest thing for me is that I was a little claustrophobic, especially when the ride first begins and your safety harnass comes down, but the ride was quick enough that I didn't really have time to dwell on that. I left the ride feeling the slightest bit queasy, but not so much that it kept me from riding it again. I hope you find this helpful!

I think it's easier to decide if you think about how you handle things that spin. My Love can ride the craziest rollercoaster there is, but he can't handle things that spin. So he barfed from M:S. (This, mind you, was in the pre-open stages when we didn't know it was a massive centrifuge.) He gets sick on things like Tea Cups so clearly, this wasn't the ride for him. I don't ride thrill rides (ever. at all.) but I am not fond of things that spin. I got a little dizzy but it didn't last longer then a half hour or so.

If you have inner ear problems or get easily ill on spinning things, I'd pass. If you can handle spinning things, then you might give it a try. Oh and if you're clausterphobic I wouldn't ride it either because it's cramped in there.

If you follow the instructions, namely keeping you head straight and looking straight ahead, you will be fine. I have a minor case of motion sickness when spinning and I can do M:S without any problems.

I love wild roller coasters and other thrill rides but spinning rides make me sick every once and a while. But I LOVED Mission:Space. Just follow the directions; don't close your eyes and look straight ahead. You won't even feel a spin. When I left the ride I actually thought they ruined the ride a little bit with all of the warnings in the pre-show. I do understand however, how important those are for other people's safety.

thank you guys soo much. I was really nervous about this because I really love thrill rides and roller coasters. But when I heard how intense this ride was, and that tons of people got sick I was afraid that I wouldnt get a chance to ride. Thank you guys so much for your help.

If you follow the directions, there is NO spinning sensation.
If you carefully watch the monitor during the liftoff (and throughout the ride), you'll probably never know you were in a centerfuge.
The liftoff acceleration (especially) presses you into the seat at 2Gs to great the effect of blasting off. You are pressed hard into your seat and then you reach orbit and there is a slight sensation of weightlessness.
This is repeated with the lunar orbit and approach to Mars.
Keep your head straight and keep your eyes on the screen. DO NOT CLOSE YOUR EYES OR LOOK OUT THE DOOR!

It really is a great ride.

stare straight ahead and you'll be fine. the ride only pulls 2 G's. it's not really intense, it's fun. :)

yeah thats what everyones been saying, but if you do that will it ruin the "expierance" of mission space?

Honestly, don't go on the ride. It is an incredible experience, but really
loses something when you're getting sick once it is done.

I think this ride is awesome but I recognize it isnt for everyone. How would you react if you were in the teacups or a Gravitron type of ride? The ones that plaster you against the side of the container ala the spin cycle of your washing machine?? If you are fine on those, this ride will be fine!!! Belle

I think the biggest thing to overcome with this ride is the fear all of the warnings give. Secondly is the sensation. Its not like anything else, and its difficult to describe. 14 posts into this thread and I don't think anyone has described it fully, and I'm certainly not able to express it well myself. I would say that clausterphobics would likely have the most difficulty. The key is to look at the screen and do your "job". I never really felt the spinning, but I did feel pressure on my body and just a weird sensation in my head. Incredible, but wierd.

Uhm, thats what you are supposed to do. There is a screen directly in front of you. Don't look at anything else, and you'll be fine.

right, but what I ment was I hear that there are like jobs for everyone to do like a captin ect. if you dont do your "job" will it affect the outcome or anything else about the ride?

PS thanks for all of the advice guys.

Too bad that didn't work for me. I focused on nothing else but the screen in front of me and still got terribly motion sick!!

Nah not at all the X-2 Deep Space Shuttle is a great ship. If for whatever reason you cant perform your functions, the computer will override them and perform it for you!!! No worries!!! Belle

I have rode this probably about 6 times and it wasn't that bad. When you watch the planning video and stuff they make it look hard core. I'm not a HUGE thrill seeker and was wondering about it, but when I rode it I was like, "that's it?" I guess it was just all the hype and all. It is a cool ride though. After I got off and was walking to the exit, my stomach felt kinda fluttery, but nothing major.

I'd rate it a 7 or 8. I'm gonna ride it again a couple times when I go. I guess it just depends on what you think it will be overall.

I was kinda disappointed how everyone has their own jobs... but if you don't push the button when it tells you it won't matter. I wish it could have been more interactive, but I understand that it has its limits.

My rating: 2. It doesn't even deserve that.

I figure, if you take motion sickness pills, and drink plenty of water, you'll at least make it halfway. Too many people have gotten sick from M:S.

But, hey, go for it. Try to be one of the few that doesn't get sick. Good luck! You'l have a blast, I bet. Try not to think about the effects, you'll do fine, I'd wager.
