Mission Space Orange

Hey all! I was wondering if anyone had some advice for me on MS Orange. I can't ride MS with DH because of the motion sickness for me. How bad is the Orange version? Is it a lot tamer? I would like to experience it but not get sick.
Thanks!

I'm don't remember what colors are which, but if orange is the one with no spinning, you will most likely not get sick.

I have been on both the intense and not intense ones. I got sick on the intense version, so on my next trip I went on the less intense. You still feel like you are in space and you feel the moving sensations, but you don't get the G forces. I thought it was just as cool and I felt fine afterwards. I would compare it to a ride like Star Tours, you are in a confined space and the car moves around while you look at the screen to make it look like you and feel like you are moving through space.

Of the 2 versions (green and orange) green is the tamer version of the 2 and it is much tamer but still a good ride. What they have done for the green side is removed the spinning of the centrifuge. Positive G's are simulated by leaning you backwards and 0 G's are done by tilting you forward. If you can handle Star Tours you will be more than fine on M:S green.

M:S Orange is the most nauseating thing I have ever experienced in all my years of thrill rides. I almost passed out right before we landed on Mars, and couldn't eat for 3 hours afterwards. If you are the slightest bit motion sick, do NOT ride Orange.

Green on the other hand, is a fun ride. We took my mother on it, whose idea of an extreme thrill ride is Splash Mountain, and she actually really enjoyed it. No spinning, but you still get the feeling of movement. I would recommend it to everyone as long as you can handle simulators and small dark spaces. It's like riding Star Tours in a closet.

If you do ride Orange however, then keep your eyes on the screen at ALL times. Do not for anything look away, down, to the side, close your eyes, and all of the above, or you will feel the intense spinning and you will be all out of wack for the rest of the day.

To be honest, IMO Star Tours and M:S are two completely different rides, and two completely different types of motion sickness...

My point is, I LOVE M:S Orange... I will do it 2-3 times in a row... no issue, however, I ALWAYS get dizzy/nauseous on Star Tours...

My advice is to try green.. if you like it enough, you don't have to do orange...
if you really must know, then face the consequences of doing orange if it doesn't go so well.

I done M:S before it was orange or green, I felt a bit icky for a while after, and I don't get motion sick.

My DBF gets very bad sick on spinning rides (tea cups, etc) so we will be doing the tame version in September!

I know people that once enjoyed Orange and can't ride it anymore. I'm too afraid to try it. But the Green training is fun! (If simulators make you uncomfortable, chew a strong peppermint gum. A thrill ride junkie taught me this. It's not a cure, but it helps.)

I did the green side and I was perfectly fine with it. DH & kids rode the orange and while the kids loved it and did it over and over it made DH sick for a few hours and he never gets sick on rides. That was enough to keep me away!

Ugh, I did MS when it first opened and I haven't been back on it since. It made me SO sick and I never get sick on rides. My DH wants to go in it when we go next month and I am realyl scared to try it again because it kind if ruined my day to be that woozy. Is the green one really much tamer?

Yes the green one is perfectly fine and I think if you never get sick on rides normally you will be fine. You are just inside the simulator and it moves you up and down and side to side to simulate the movement. Instead of your car spinning round and round and round and round and round and......
I think you will really enjoy green. You still fell in space, but not like losing your lunch afterwards.

This is a bit of an old thread but I just got back from riding Mission Space for the first time and felt like chiming in on the experience. For me, MS Orange was the single most intense attraction I've ever experienced. I've been on countless roller coasters as well as all those devilish rides at fairs and nothing has had as big of an effect on me. I didn't think it would be a big deal when I got on it for those reasons, but it ended up making me feel quite disorientated. The best way I can describe it is 5x a Gravitron or Rotor. I'm not sure I'll ever ride Orange again.

That's the best advice I could give you as well. My Dad who is both claustrophobic and gets motion sickness rode M:S before it had both versions, and he was really flipping out during the beginning of the ride, but I told him that if he kept focused on the screen, he would be alright. He was fine for the rest, but it goes without saying that he will probably never ride M:S again. Personally, the ride doesn't affect me very much, I find the feeling it gives you to be very enjoyable, but I don't get motion sickness very easily. I would probably go with green if you have any history of getting sick on rides.

It's all in your head

Orange is great unless you are easily swayed by "group think". If you follow the rules, don't easily get motion sickness and are a strong minded person, you won't get sick. But if you are weak minded and miss Horizons too much you will be :hurl:-ing all over the place. Have a nice day

yes, yes, yes. I had ridden the thing 50 or so times with no consequences. So I thought, hell I am going to look to the side. I was a mess for an hour. It was because I looked to the side when I was feeling the big g's. Hint: MS goes into and out of g's so when you are feeling absolutely no g pressure, you can look to the side with no problem. But these moments only last for 5 seconds at the most... so if you are new to the ride... don't try and guess when you can do it... ride it a few times first. Otherwise keep your eyes ON THE SCREEN!

Before taking in the experience at Mission:Space (whether Orange or Green) make a stop first over at Club Cool. Take a few cups of the Ginger Ale they have on tap. It is free, and ginger is a natural remedy for motion sickness. Or, you can do what I do. I pop a dramamine right after we enter the park and I'm usually good for the day. While it does normally tend to make you sleepy, there is too much going on to feel the effects.

Orange is the intense version of Mission Space, while green is the less intense not-spinning version.

I would really recommend trying the orange version at least once. Most people really enjoy the ride. Often when people do get sick, it's because they look around during the ride or close their eyes if they get a bit overwhelmed, and both of those things can cause you to get very nauseous. The majority of the time people come off sick, it's parents that kept looking over at their children during the ride. The pre-flight video really does mean it when it says look straight ahead and keep your eyes open!

You really never can tell who will get sick and who won't. My dad HATES the tea cups, gets sick every single time...and yet he loves Mission Space. On the other hand, I also know people who can't handle the orange version of Mission Space but love rides like the teacups.

As for the green version, it's really not bad at all. Just some rocking back and forth and things like that. It's pretty tame.
