Minor Trash Can Explosion at DisneyLAND in Anaheim

Same basic principal as diet coke and mentos, but with a lot more punch. The dry ice (solid CO2) rapidly turns to gas when you add a little water and will make a sealed plastic bottle explode.

I like how that idiot almost got his head taken off near the end of the video!

Two Minor Updates from the LA Times.

The "All-Clear" was given and Toontown is now re-opened.

The Anaheim PD also said that it was similar to other devices that exploded around Anaheim.
Like you've said, most likely this is some group of punk wiseasses trying to cause a ruckus.
Hopefully that's all it is, and not someone testing the waters for something worse. A "dry run" if you will. Sorry about the awful pun, but I couldn't resist working that in somehow.

Anyway, is it too extreme to wish for execution for the perps? Or at least a good old fashioned caning?

If this was an employee (and not an accident, although that seems unlikely) boy, they are super dumb. It's not hard to connect the dots to figure out who did it and how they did it. Guess they wanted to get fired, go out with a "bang"

Although, just saw that this is similar to other incidents in the Anaheim area, so maybe it's not an employee.

The LA times post I linked to above says this has been happening in Anaheim a lot in the past few months.

Edit for Clarification: Its been happening in the Anaheim area in the past few months, not DL.

Good new that no one got hurt. These type of pressure bombs can hurt if you get to close.

If you want to know what is even worse, look up videos on Drano bombs. These are meant to go off if someone moves them...

so do u think they'll be able to find out who did it? i'm sure lots of people threw bottles into that trash can throughout the day though so i hope they can figure it out. either way, disneyland is supposed to be a place where u can feel safe :(

How funny would it have been if it was Push and he followed the guy until it went off next to him. Of course not good for Push but ya know lol

Dry ice is Also used to make stage fog. You take hot water and pump it over dry ice in a barrel. The barrel has a fan that blows the fog onto the stage. Does anyone know if they use dry ice for the stage shows?

Yes but not dry ice like that. They use large liquid containers that discharge CO2 through a hose on to a stage. Sometimes they also use liquid nitrogen. Now liquid nitrogen by itself packs a punch if contained with no ventilation. DO NOT TRY AT HOME... ;)

The simple security solution is to use thermographic or infrared cameras at security checkpoints and around the park.Dryice would stick out like a sore thumb. Cameras around the parks and backstage would also alert security if there were any dry ice spills from food carts or other sources.

I know the screeners at the checkpoints in WDW seems friendly and only appear to briefly scan bags but I would be surprised if there weren't others close by watching and ready to swarm in. Also, the pause required to go through bags would be a good opportunity to use other kinds of passive detection like sniffers.
