Minor Fantasmic Dragon Update

What exactly happened to the dragon? It is known to occasionally freeze on stage to the point where they have to wait until the show is over to put it back into the mountain and work the finale around it.
Yeah that's exactly what happened - head appeared and didn't move, wings didn't light up, nothing. Stayed there the entire time, really an eyesore. But I guess you can't stop mid-show, no one wants that. I never knew this happened from time to time.

Occasionally that happens. There's sensors in the stage and what not that can be thrown off and shut her down. Also jut general mechanical problems.

Even during the final with the boat and Sorcerer Mickey?

To all the people who say that our dragon is better, please stop lying to yourselves. If you've seen both dragons in person with unbiased eyes, then this shouldn't even be shouldn't even be a debate. Its true that DL gets a lot more updates than we do, but that doesn't mean we can't hope for the best. Especially since DHS is getting a redo.

They're doing a live stream of Fantasmic on February 2nd along with a behind the scenes look beforehand. No special reasoning, though. Thought I should share but didn't want to create a whole new thread.
I happened to watch this yesterday, it's amazing how poor a job WDW does in directing their cameras. Either in so tight or too wide. No idea how to capture a shot properly. Aside from a little bit of pimping new Glow With The Show 2.0 ears, I'm not sure why this live stream took place.

I believe the original blog post said that fans voted for the stream of Fantasmic. If there actually was a poll, I'm disappointed Illuminations wasn't chosen since it's in better shape than Fantasmic. Then again, knowing Disney's live streaming habits I'm sure they wouldn't even capture it correctly. Wondering why they haven't contacted @marni1971 to do these yet.

Was quite disappointed with the cinematography for this... several segments, the camera was showing parts that were completely not the focus of the show. For example, during the princess segment, they had the camera showing the Snow White Barge for a pretty good duration during the Little Mermaid portion of that segment. I mean, maybe there was an issue with the camera that was supposed to be tracking that barge, but they could have at least gone to a wider shot. I just feel that for a show that has been playing for nearly 20 years, they should have had a director who would cue up the appropriate camera and have camera folks being sure to get the most appropriate shots. Granted, I realize this was done by Disney Park blogs and perhaps they do not have the budget to do an advanced, multi camera live broadcast, but still...

Exactly! I agree completely!

The average high school A/V club could have done better. The only very good thing was the direct feed of the soundtrack.

It was enjoyable, and better than many (not all) YouTube videos I've seen. But yeah...the camera work wasn't so great.

They did have multiple cameras, but those just weren't used effectively. If it were me, I'd make a point of getting to know the flow of the show second-by-second (actually, I probably already do) and plan the camera shots in advance to fit the flow of the show. I'd also probably do a few dry runs (e.g., taped, but not broadcast) before doing it for real. Seems like a no-brainer.

I'd have also setup cast members to block/redirect people from walking in front of the cameras, especially during the final portions of the show. It was distracting to see so many heads pass by as Mickey is about to say "Some imagination, huh!".

Other than that, it was enjoyable and fun to watch. I hooked my iPhone up to my 70" TV using HDMI so we could all watch it without gathering around a smaller screen.
