Mind Blowing attractions

Am I missing something here? The actual ride part of ToT (the dropping) is *just* a drop tower with a computerized drop sequence and a few effects, is it not? They didn't reinvent the wheel here, loads of theme parks have drop towers they just aren't themed well...or at all.

In the DHS tower, the "elevator" car is actually an automated ride vehicle. It loads, raises two 2 different show levels, then exits the ascent tower into the "Fifth Dimension" scene, navigates through that scene under its own power and without the aid of track, positions itself into the descent tower, completes the drop sequence, unloads, and moves itself back to the load position. It's far from your average drop tower. ;)

They literally invented a ride system for the WDW attraction. They worked with Otis Elevator to invent an elevator system that would work without the usual safety system in place. The drop shaft system is actually quite different than the simple "free fall" rides at amusement parks.

And the ride vehicles themselves are incredibly complicated. They use the wire-guided system, charge themselves while docked, and have more safety checks and balances than a real elevator.

Calling it a "complex" ride system would be putting it mildly, and the fact that it's downtime is less than many simpler rides is just plain amazing.

IMO, Tower at DHS wins the gold for theme, immersion, technology and thrill - combined.

Other than the fact they have seats and all go up and down, ToT has nothing in common with the standard drop towers made by Intamin, S&S and others.
Nothing at all.

Think for yourselfer
Most recent WDW attraction that blew my mind? ToT, no question about it. No need to go into any details about it because mostly everything has been said in the preceding posts. However, I would like to point out that it is nearly 2 decades old. 20 years since Disney has blown our minds. Good Grief.

Your last statement is actually a really good testimony to the vast superiority of ToT. It has withstood the test of time by continuing to be popular for 20 years, all while Disney has made only minor adjustments (drop profile changes and the temporary effects from a few years ago) in that time. That and, as I mentioned before, it is RARELY "down". I think in all the days I've been in that park over the last 20 years, I've maybe seen it temporarily down a couple times...if even that.
